james-maclaren reacted to P McDonald in Vets National
Vets national at Falkirk yesterday kicked off at 10am in rain and 7c temp which was pretty grim. Dried out by the end though. It was 7 laps of a 9 mile circuit with a couple of miles run to finish, there was a short but steep climb each lap. Race was fast and steady with my average for 70 miles being 25mph including A few miles before and after. Break of 4 did a great job but ultimately got caught with about 10 miles to go. There were about 45 left for a bunch sprint with a drag up over the motorway with 1km to go. This was my undoing as body started to malfunction half way up the drag and I just could not get towards the front and finished 32nd in the midst of the large bunch spread across the road. Good to be part of it all, not good to be so far down but c'est la vie. Need to review training I think as struggling in road races this year.

james-maclaren reacted to carol cowan in 31st May 2015 30miler
The numbers have been fairly low recently and a few runs cancelled but that has been mainly due to the cold wet spring weather this year. Six of us started last week. All bunches meet at 9am outside the clubrooms in the summer and sometimes the 30milers and intermediates will form one group and then split after 15mls or so and take a shorter route. Keep an eye on the posts , but basically you can turn up any Sunday at 9am and find a suitable group to suit.

james-maclaren reacted to Mark O in CLUB KIT
James,
The club doesn't actually carry any stock kit. You order as an individual via the club store which opens on a periodic basis - usually two or three times a year subject to member demand.
There was an order delivered during March. I would anticipate a new order going in around August/September for winter kit. If there is enough demand for one before then I can request the store be opened. However, to avoid additional fees/charges there is a minimum club wide spend of £200.
Hope this clarifies matters

james-maclaren reacted to Kenny MacDonald in Books
Richie we used to have a library of books at clubrooms where people signed them out and returned when read , not sure if its still there but could be resurrected if not currently being utilised.

james-maclaren reacted to D Hazle in Tuesday 14th April - Chocolate Series #3 - Georgetown 18:45
Adam should be there. I'll help out to allow others to ride if required.
I take it the road works don't affect the course?

I'm planning a ride up to Eaglesham and Whitelee Wind Farm on Thursday morning for a few hills and some coffee at the wind farm.
Anyone with the time and inclination to join me would be welcome, here's a link to a suggested route. 42 miles round trip from Johnstone.
Meet 9:15 @ Amaretto's in Bridge of Weir, or 9:30 @ Morrison's in Johnstone.

james-maclaren reacted to thejanullrichdietplan in Thursday night chain gang 2 April
I hope i'm not jumping the gun here but Charlie mentioned in another thread that he was on holiday so i thought i'd post up in his absence.
Anyway clocks have changed so it's that time of year again.
6pm start for the first couple of weeks - it could be getting dark towards the end so lights advisable for the trip home.
For those who havent been a part of the Thursday fun before - basically the group meet at the bus stop on the Georgetown road near the Crosslee-Houston roundabout. We then follow this route: https://www.strava.com/routes/2016619. Steady along the Georgetown road then through Bishopton with the pace increasing down to and along the West Ferry, every man or woman for themselves up the Clune then back as a group through Kilmacolm and Bridge of Weir to the Georgetown road with a habble to the finish.
It's a training ride rather than a social club run so if you get dropped or have a puncture or mechanical then you are on your own. There is however a regrouping at the top of the Clune Brae (there is also a shortcut to miss out part of the Clune climb this route is https://www.strava.com/routes/2016627).If you get dropped then don't be put off, just come back the next week and try to hang on for a little bit longer - it is great way to bring on your fitness as well as measure the improvements being made.
If you've been out on club runs before but not experienced a chain gang before then this video helps explain how to ride through and off.

james-maclaren reacted to GrahamF in Saturday 28th March - Langbank Hilly TT #2
10:00am Langbank, about 10 miles.
Following on from last week, which was great fun with wonderful weather! This is the second and final of the Langbank Hillys this season, so your last chance to record a time.
As last week, the start is in Langbank, just along from The Wheelhouse restaurant. The course runs up the B789 all the way to the small roundabout in the middle of Houston, where you turn and re-trace most of the way back to Langbank. The end of the course cuts off to the left before the last steep sections and finishes at the entrance to Gleddoch Country Club.
Here is a link to the route: http://www.mapmyride.../view/650383978
An undulating course, reasonably quiet road for those yet to do their first TT, open to those who intend to join the club or are already a member.
Iain Cowden and Mike Ferguson have offered to officiate, but supporters / photographers are always welcome.

james-maclaren reacted to Alan Michael in accreditation 1
If interested in doing accreditation 1 there's a space for Tuesday 9 dec 18.00 as I have cancelled my slot. I found it a bit of a nightmare to get booked onto so hopefully this makes it easier if anyone is interested.

james-maclaren reacted to Alan McLean in Auchentoshan 2/11/14
I was working so could only spectate. Lovely fresh weather and dappled sun lit up the classic autumn course.
A great turnout from Jets and the more mature gentleman riders but I only saw Davie entered in the seniors.
The first races did not cross the ravine of doom so the parcours was very fast with surprisingly little mud given the recent rain.
The best vantage point was the top of the big berm, about 25m of 30% muddy grass. I joined the layabouts cheering the very few who could ride to the top and commiserating with the riders who ran out of steam one pedal stroke from safety.
Big chapeau to James who has given up all pretence of attending races as his son's helper and is now a full on cross racer. We are expecting carbon tubs to appear soon. He also had the best clipped in slo-mo fall!
The recent CX events have been stuffed with riders aged from 8 to 80 and are a brilliant day out. It was particularly good to see a field of around 30 women racers with really close action.
Hoping to get a couple more rides before xmas.
Alan
