Never seen my bike so filthy.
Took my nephew ages to clean it.

Let's pencil it in. If hols get in the way we can ride one of the others. Yes Chung, am back in summer ( well , spring anyway). Got a few weeks
left in Sydney and then we are moving down to Hobart in Tasmania. Was down there last weekend and you will be pleased to hear it was 13 C and blowing hard. It's about 1500 kms south of here ( in the Roaring Forties ) so weather may prove to be a challenge. Mt Wellington is right behind the city though so a nice 20 km alpine style climb literally on the doorstep. Really must get that compact ! See you in Spring.

ginty001 reacted to chung in Annual Loch Eck Drum Up Sunday 9th Nov.
Hi All,
Just like to share our FIRST "Drum Up" experience from yesterday on Loch Eck - orginised by a very welcoming & friendly Geoff & Linda Smith & Ian Loughran of the Glasgow Couriers CC:
http://www.braveheartfund.co.uk/Community/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13987
Four of us - Alan Michael, Bill T, Iain McGinty & myself cycled to Gourock to catch the 10am ferry for a crossing over to Dunoon.
The bunch was split up with some heading straight to Loch Eck via Sandbank to prepare the fire in advance, while a few of us took in the climb over to Ardentiny. A swift decent dropped us back onto the shores of Loch Eck where Geoff & co had already got the fire going, fantastic to be warming ourselfs in front of a rear fire.
Slowly but surely the drum up group started to swell & a big group of (I think) Inverclyde Velo boys joined in the fun. Even Dennis White (Ex-Wheeler who resides in Blackwood now) made an appearance along with the ever green Jocky Johnstone joined in the fun too!
I was given advise before hand by Bill as to what these "Drum-Ups" are about, so I packed my wee musette full of jam pieces, biscuits, tea bags and hope to improvised (a mobile cafe stop really) At first I was a bit apprehensive as to what to do, but seeing the "pros" at work got me experimenting with our limited resources along with Roy from the "Nightingales". It was so much fun, eating & drinking what can only be describe as "crude" food cooked on an open fire & with soup cans (or proper billy cans with wheel spoke as handle - genius :-)), but with the beautiful scenery & brilliant company, it was fantastic!
Oh, and there was some cycling involved to, 105km door to door from Bishopton, great day out!
Here's a few photos just to show that I wasn't dreaming :-)

I would highly recommend that all keen cyclist to try it at least once and experience this unique "cycling culture" of by gone years, and it's surely one that I hope to participate again!
Big Thanks again to Geoff & Linda Smith, and Ian Loughran of the Couriers and everyone that went along, Cheers!
Regards
Thanks for reading
Chung

ginty001 got a reaction from chung in Main Bunch 9 November
Guys,
Apologies for hijacking the Sunday run thread. Geoff Smith has invited any of the JWCC to join in the Couriers annual Drum up this Sunday over to Loch Eck.. just thought I'd post it in here in case anyone fancied it... I think it was originally posted in our (JWCC) facebook page..
The plan is to head for the 10am wee red ferry over to Dunoon, head round to Ardentinny, up over Whistfield, down to the lochside for Drum up. then back to the ferry and home...
Any takers, think i'll give it a go..

ginty001 got a reaction from thejanullrichdietplan in Braveheart Fundraising Ride - Saturday 25th October
It was great Iain, ive done it a couple of times before and today was by far the toughest, wind was brutal on the way home from the Mearns, and the horizontal rain didn't help, bit the free macaroni cheese at the end was awesome, rode very briefly in Sean Kellys wheel, but didn't fancy trying to hold that pace for the next 35 miles, so just let him get on with it. Great show of Joansin Jets out too :-)

Time constraints mean i'll probably do a U turn after a cuppa in Largs and head back up the Brisbane Glen and back to Bishopton ....

How far is it between these 2 points Kenny ? I'm guessing 500m, cos thats about as much flat road as I can remember in Skye ? Beautiful al the same

Bike build costs as usual spiralling but not yet out of control, at least another couple of hours to reach that point!

finish, usual story of going far too early for a sprint but it was just too hard to resist holding back and not trying to go round the final corner on the front of a group of about 50

Hi, I'm new to cycling & looking to pick up a few tips from some old geezers.
Would it be ok to pop along?
I'll likely just head straight along the coast & go up the Haylie as I'm back to my porky old self & terribly unfit.
This all depends on my new bike being ready!
