I was really looking forward to this race(kind of) and after a few practice laps it seemed a great course. David C, Davie B and Alex B and myself were in the B race, Alex and Davie B were gridded due to some strong performances this season. It was a good start an the Wheelers well positioned, Davie B may have even got the "hole shot" . On  the first lap we came to a long cobbled lane, this is where Davie B was taken down by a rider who had slipped on the cobbles, I saw the photos of the crash and it looked bad, what followed was a stramash behind and I was taken down, chris boardman can stick his advice where the sun doesn't shine about helmets, as I would have cracked my head on the cobbles without one(bring on Flanders eh). Delaireur broken! Race over for me ... I met up with the guy(broken wheel and derailleur) who crashed into Davie and we thought he had taken me out, he was very apologetic about ruining my race and even bought me a coffee, it wasn't until I saw the photos I realised it was Davie he had taken down(I owe him a coffee)

I watched the rest of the race and Davie B was going great at one point he was in fifth place, Alex and David C had a little battle going until Alex took a load off places back in last lap. It was a great event and the wheelers looked very strong, I would have like a few more laps but hey That's Cyclocross!

    Cracking day on bike today
Myself Ian Mcginty & James left club rooms at 9.30 am. We picked up Chung & Ian McTavish on Georgetown Road & Ian Carvill in Helensburgh.
Cracking ride and was a lovely morning for cycling
There were 3 guys in club rooms. Think they had an allergy to light rain

Looks like a nice inn Paul, can add it to the options on where to stay.

I hope to cycle from home, without any 'cheating' by getting a train, though that may work best for others.

Regarding a route, I cycled to Newton Stewart last year via Straiton and Glentrool which was a lovely quiet road over the hills.

I am flexible as to the length of the trip, but happy to fit in with the time constraints of others.  We could perhaps have two groups with different durations but meeting up at the same accommodation.

This reliability brings back memories of the time I did a track stand at traffic lights at the bottom of Sinclair Street . The local church had just come out and the congregation was streaming across the road . When the lights went to green  I jumped on pedals to get a quick getaway . Only to end up on the deck in a heap , as the chain had snapped LOL  much to the amusement of the rest of the bunch. I wish I could say it was my super strength but alas it was a batch of dodgy chains . I can recall at least 4 other club members suffering a similar fate that season.
Another memorable reliability run round that circuit was stopped by the police just after Cardross . Our bunch was about 25 strong and we had caught the Glasgow district CTC who had about 30 in their bunch . A Police inspector pulled us over and told us to ride in single file , realising this would cause even more of a hold up for traffic we duly obliged without any discussion . It was a sight to behold as the group rode into Helensburgh in one long line .
ps it took an eternity to get to back of bunch when you had done a spell

I'm thinking of doing a short cycle tour in May, possibly to the Galloway / Isle of Whithorn area across the bank holiday weekend of 1st May.

Maybe 2 nights away, approx. 90 miles cycling each way, plus a tour of the area in the intervening day. The route could be shortened by getting the train to Ayr.  Accommodation could be hotel / B&B / holiday lodge, typical price £70 B&B per night for a twin room.

Anyone interested in doing a little touring, and seeing another part of our beautiful country? Details to be thrashed out, could drive down and enjoy 3 days touring the local area at a pace to suit, etc.

The second of the scheduled 2016 Reliability rides, to Moscow, 46 miles, is on Sunday 14th February.  Lets hope for better weather this time.

All rides will leave from clubrooms on Miller Street.

There will be three bunches with the slower bunch leaving at 9:00am, the second bunch leaving at 9:30am and the fastest bunch at 9:45am.

    The route is here: http://www.mapmyride...w-route-1787383

Tea, coffee, soup, rolls, cakes will be served in the clubrooms at the end of the ride, donations of food gratefully accepted, please indicate what you will be bringing in your posting.  One contribution per person across the 4 weeks of Reliability rides will mean a hearty snack for all at the end of each ride.

Jane says she'll defrost the soup prepared for last time and heat it up this week.

Bring your Valentine along to join in the fun!  Shorter ride options will be available for those who don't feel up to the full distance.

Given the 'detonating' weather I suggest a reliability in the club room on turbos. The forecast temperature and the rain are generally survivable, but when coupled with the forecast wind I think it's looking both uncomfortable and potentially dangerous.

I'm told the soup will freeze until next week, let's hope for better weather then!

If you don't feel ready for the full 40 miles at this stage in the season, don't worry there will be others in the same boat and there are various shorter options available.  Just come along and work up an appetite for the soup!

Good run today, found it pretty tough although very scenic on Fairlie Moor and Brisbane Glen.

Thanks for the ride. Loads of snow lying at top of Brisbane but otherwise dry with light winds today. This was an unexpectedly good weather window between storms.

James made a strong bid for the mighty Hamock Award/Wheelers Fail of the Year. He punctured after the Fairlie Moor descent. When he took his rear tyre off we were impressed to see 5cm sections of bare cord bulging through the wafer thin ripped  rubber.

To descend the Moor road with that timebomb tyre took real courage. We have photo evidence as well as the testimony of a clinician, a respected lawyer and professor of psychology that James demonstrated the finest attributes of the Wheelers: parsimony bordering on insanity, complete disregard for danger and a single-minded dedication to just getting out on the bike at all costs. It will be hard to beat.

We stuck him on the back of the bunch and pointed him to Fairlie station to catch the next train back to Johnstone. Would love to hear if he cycled the last 4 miles to BoW.

As you will see I have also included for reference a number of open events and other club activities to help see how they all sit together.

I have included the published date for the Scottish National 10 and 25 TTs, and included two confined events at those distances before the respective National event.

Also, I've not specified a location for the confined 25s yet, and suggest that potential competitors agree amongst themselves where they would like it to be.

Had a good run out. Didn't even see any snow, never mind ice.

Brisbane Glen and Fairlie Moor were both on good form, though a bit of a headwind down the Glen! The Bagel Basket was busy with about 16 Fullarton Wheelers, but fortunately there was still some cake left. A good 45 miles and no rain!
