Darryl Gunson reacted to Gummers in Reliability 4 - The Wallplanner Run
The inaugural Wallplanner Run was an amazing success except of course for the hollow sprint at Largs! Great to have Darryl back, bringing with him to the bunch a sense of decorum and occasion.
Charlie, please come back! Say no more.

Decided to chill out from the loch as cool down cause I was stopping in howwood, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
Had a bottle of champagne when I got in cause the flying Satsuma survived a whole ride!
Summer bike next week for Don Smith?

Good question Ian! I'm going to have a go at answering.
"Wallplanner", from the English "wall-planner" meaning "wall planner" derived from the Latin "wallus plannus". This popular Victorian passtime provided an excellent opportunity for victorians to travel around, usually "by cycle" (later to become known as "bicycle") generally planning walls and stuff. Hence the sport of bicycling was born, later to be known as cycling. The pass time became less popular following a rather excessively enthusiastic russian cycling group who following a trip to eastern germany established a Berlin based wall planning group who created a highly controversial and ultimately divisive exhibition piece in the early 1950's. This now minority hobby is usually limited to private dwelling places and some offices and usually involves checking internal walls for any plans for cycling or "by cycling" for those of a more traditional orientation. I hope this helps? Any questions, Wikipedia is a great source, as well as the Museum of Wall Planning

Well that probably went better than I expected
Hung in quite well to finish with the bunch in the 1st scratch race and may even admit to enjoying it The bloke's not well...
Completely messed up the tactics in the Devil and probably went out after about 5 before me.
20 lap points race went off like a rocket even before the start of lap 1 A wee bit of help. Held onto the back of the string and lasted to about lap 15 before the elastic broke (and my legs spun into oblivion thanks to the light gearing on the hire bikes)
Learned that if the A group are doing a 40lap points race they don't do the devil that was supposed to preceed my last scratch race so whilst gabbing in track centre thinking I had plenty of time I looked up to see my group starting and that was the end of my night.
Excuses - Light gearing, too many young uns, still recovering from manflu and race organisers changing race schedule, £30 to race (bike and shoe hire and race entry).
Positives - throughly enjoyed it, did quite well in race 1, didn't crash and didn't cause one.
Probably won't be back until my track bike is built up RSN (Real Soon Now). as £120 a month for about 15mins racing is more than painful

Entered for the sprint night, which talking to Jeanette should be a mix of Kierens and devils. She is trying to get 3 Kierens for everyone.
Something different and what better way to spend a Wednesday night?

Just a heads up incase you havent noticed on the online booking yet but there are now DST sessions available at the velodrome. 2 hours for £20 either focusing on sprinting or endurance. Not sure if it will involve the derny but I hope so!

A good run for me today even into the wind! Surprisingly not last up the Clune!
Entertainment was provided by Darryl whose right pedal kept unscrewing itself every few miles.
Thanks to Suzie for the soup and others who provided refreshments.

Excellent day albeit tough. Good to get some road miles in. Absolute hell into that wind. Felt like a continuous climbing effort on the west ferry. Billy's mental stint before the clune was bonkers. Legs are gubbed. Waiting patiently for a proper post ride massage while composing this post - if its good enough for the pros....... No smut now! this thread is read by young people.
For future anyone else with training or track gubbed legs pm me and I'll see if I can book you a session.

The only only thing reliable about this run is Paul is a machine!
Ripped off muddy, broken cleat and stuck in big ring for some climbs fun fun fun!
Really enjoyed my first reliability run. Done in!

Guys,
Back home OK.
Done my own thing at the top of the Clune and ambled home via Kilmalcolm, Lochwinnoch.
OK trundling along at my own pace but can't do a spell or hold a wheel, it's getting a bit frustrating but hey ho!
Hope you enjoyed the rest of the run.

That is brilliant.
You might have missed a critical part.
How to pin numbers on to a skin suit, correct orientation and not parachutes and without rips, tears, blood etc !!

Be at least a Youth B (age 12) and get advice from club coaches if you are starting as a youth.
Get track accreditation. See elsewhere on forum and Braveheart for hints how to get this quickly. This is a compulsory six hour programme to ensure a minimum safe standard.
If you can pass accreditation and hang on behind a 50kph derny you can race
Get a British Cycling race licence, around thirty to seventy quid depending on add-ons.
You must have a BC licence, the coms (referees) are checking this at the track
Apply online through the BC website with your BC race licence number and credit card (£10 for senior, £5 for younger riders) by 1800 on the Sunday before.
Apply to enter Group D. Although this is nominally the "starting group" the organisers mix up the groups a fair bit so there are some pretty experienced riders in it.
Arrive at track by six to sign on. You can hire a bike for the evening for £10-£15. If you arrive by six this gives you time to sign on, change and warm up for 20 minutes. Last sign on is 1840 so you can still get there from work.
Find the JWCC group in track centre and set up rollers if you have them.
Racing starts at 7. There are currently five groups, A,B,C,D,Youth with four races each so you may have 20 mins between races. Youths race early and finish by 2030ish. Seniors finish about 2150.
Check the program and get to the starting gate 5 minutes early for your race.
Follow the coms instructions. Drink water. Have fun. Cheer clubmates.
Post a report.
