A bit late in leaving for meeting Graham at the clubrooms so not the best start, but it was to say goodbye to my kids so quite understandable. We met up and got underway quickly as we had to meet Paul at the top of Bowfield, we actually meet him halfway down as he was getting cold waiting. Steady pace down to Lugton, Dunlop and Stewarton where we were met bit the hailstones. It did not last and we made it to Kilmaurs for our first stop while the hail came down again.

Refuelled and recaffeinated we pushed on into the sapping headwind towards Tarbolton and Annbank en route to Rozelle tearooms in Ayr. Thanks to precision planning from Graham and steady navigation from Paul then no sooner had we sat down Carol and David arrived to join us for lunch.

Afterwards our route took us down the A731, now with the wind behind us. A brief stop in Patna to say hello to Jane making her way by car and we continued at a good pace with a couple of downhill sprints until Carsphairn. There our support wagon had stopped and the most carefully laid out feed station was ready to welcome us with hot drinks cake and sunshine.

Thereafter we headed on for the last short section to our hotel, becoming a little bit strung out with Paul winning the sprint for the 30 into St. John's Town of Dalry. Finishing the day with drinks and dinner in first rate company our thoughts are of tomorrow and the weather forecast.

Thanks to all who set off from the bridge this morning. We were very lucky with the weather. As David said, an epic day. 140 miles on the clock for me, and similar for Robbie and Ginty.
I have one or two more weekends before la Sufrida when I'll be able to do an all dayer. Might just do it again...

Before the thursday night world championship started i was persuaded not to have the Jens Voigt bonus points and keep the scoring simple. So all you get is strava kudos and the eternal glory of having a solo breakaway sticking going down the Georgetown (which i think this can count as). It's a very exclusive club, only the best of the best are in it

Yip I gave Scott his first race bike. He then joined the Couriers !! but do not think he racing any more as not seen his name.
The family are great and chuffed to bits that both Derek & Scott qualified for Rio. Only now waiting for James to take the credit and how he inspired them with his running prowess

For years I held some utterly obscure running KOMs around here. Unlike cycling there is far less assistance from wind and bunches, so really niche routes can remain untouched for ages. Amongst punters like me any gains are usually measured in a few secs/km at most.

However over the winter someone hoovered up my KOMs by >1 min/km. They were moving at 3min/kms on the track between here and Paisley, ie 20 km/h. I assumed it was a fat bloke on an ebike having a laugh.

Actually it was the amazing Callum Hawkins, selected for British Olympic marathon team, and his brother Derek who hopes to be selected tomorrow. These guys are from Kilbarchan and are among the best runners in the world.

On one hand It is great to have locals running in the big event but from my Strava running career POV it is a disaster comparable to Wiggins and Froome putting down their markers without the chance of me ever getting them back!

sample Olympic training run here, I like the way he eased off in the last 9k.

    Another humdinger.
9 of us had magnificent run up the rest and down hells Glen.
Significant technical issue left an member with previous hammock award riding one legged with crank in back pocket and some pushing from me into Lochgoilhead. Where we started knocking doors trying to get a 10mm Allan key. After some blanks we got superb help from lovely lady who phoned a guy who drove round and we had it sorted in 2 mins. And to cap it all we could not communicate with rest of bunch who had continued up Hells Glen due to no mobile signal.
Then we had a grand wee 2 up where said member had further technical issues which rendered him wee ring only !
Caught up with bunch at Sheila's about 2.30pm.
Said member was on forum just this morning giving Toole A Deserved slagging but how is that for karma working in mysterious ways !?
I don't think we have a double hammock winner but there is some serious competition this season..........
    Another brilliant adventure

Enjoyed that strangely. Punctured just before 0 @ Port Glasgow. Bit of a mare on tyre change front. Solo to Georgetown road then got a tow in from Renfra bunch. Their pace was a lot easier than Westferry. strava will show That I completed the course so want my point

Glad you had a great day, well deserved captain I also loved it (arran has that effect) I had planned on heading out today with the bunch but the SA took its toll and after paying for the boxing on sky I crashed out missing the lot and sleeping in for today's ride, god knows how we're going to do the challenge of all challenges 112 miles at 20mph avg DA. I look forward to trying it though

Well, having not turned a pedal or planted my back side on a bike saddle since last Saturday around Oudenaarde, I was hoping for a few wheels to sit on to "ease" myself back into things :-)

8 of us - Eric, Gerard, Iain67, James, Paul Levy, Paul (Iain's mate), Robbie & myself met & set off from the bridge around 9.45am (Iain, we did try to wait for you but not knowing if you were coming or not)
We stuck to the proposed route proper - Hardgate, Kyber Pass, Strathblane, Lennoxtown, Kilsyth, Tak, down onto Carron Valley, then Fintry & Crow road for Café/lunch stop at Lennoxtown, after which a blast back to Milngarvie then over the bridge for home.

Over some new roads for some, so hope youse enjoyed it. The Tak from Kilsyth end is always hard with steep gradients & poor road surface, even doing Flanders last week didn't make this any easier
Well done to Paul (Iain's mate) for digging deep even after cramping on top of the Tak, it was still a long way to go.
Not to bore youse with more Flanders comparison :-) even though I only managed 130km today compare to last Saturdays 230km, some how - there were bits today that I found harder ............. weird!

Anyway, thanks again to all for the wheels & great company today. I think Gerard took a photo (or two) of us today, any chance in posting them up (especially the one at the café stop :-))

P.S Robbie, remember to take the chocolate bars out of the back pocket before washing the gilet, otherwise you'll be riding for AG2R Le Mondiale Pro Team :-)

    Cheers

    Chung
