D Hazle got a reaction from martin in Track frameset for sale 58cm
Selling Adam's track frameset as he has further indulged his carbon fixation with a new purchase.

For sale is a 58cm white alloy track frame with blue Planet X track fork. Sale includes headset and carbon steerer bung, but not bottom bracket (English thread).

The frame was bought from Alistair Gow at Wheelcraft last year and is roughly equivalent to the Dolan Track Champ with butted / shaped tubes. The aero track fork was bought from Planet X and normally sells for £150 on its own. I think it's fair to describe the condition of both frame and fork as immaculate. Selling for £220.

Adam should be there. I'll help out to allow others to ride if required.

I take it the road works don't affect the course?

Tough day for me, legs still heavy after yesterday but even accounting for that it was a surprisingly tough route particularly with the road up to Rowardennan being alot lumpier than i remember it. It was however very scenic up Loch Lomond side with the sun out and the last of the autumn leaves on show.

Well done Adam, if you continue your rapid progress it wont be long until you are putting the hurt on all of us!

Lots of mighty Jets and wheelers this week.

Iain and Danny were totally at the sharp end in the B's. Expect promotion soon chaps.

I was up against our very own U16 and U14 Jets in the C/D race and had 90 laps of hard racing. The Jets rode suberbly but spent too long in the wind allowing yours truly to sneak past.  But in a few months they will be screaming past me heading for the B group.

Mr Hazle is now podiuming all the time in the youth group and is another Jet who will soon be riding with and beating the seniors. Well done Adam for hard work and great results.

In the absence of a competent timekeeper I rummaged around in the car and found a notepad and pen, so here's the results for tonight. It's nerve wracking stuff timing 14 riders with a phone that only has 12% charge left!

Well done to all who had to fight against a fairly stiff breeze on the outward leg.

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated. Richie, it's an all black cross bike, so I think it needs to match, but thanks for the offer. Jannza, if you can be bothered looking it out to check that would be great, if I get the chance to pop in to Thomsons I'll let you know, but we're away racing in Dundee on Saturday and Aberdeen on Sunday - such is the life of a soigneur :-)

D Hazle got a reaction from Thomsonscycles in Recommend me a 4 bike towbar carrier
I have the cheaper 3 bike Thule carrier without the quick attach/release. It works well and once you get used to the screw on fixing it only takes a couple of minutes to attach.

Positives include its solidity and if you buy the desperate lock (basically a nylon cover that spins, it's a pretty secure structure to lock bikes to. I personally like the fact that you can see the bikes in your rear view mirror and that you don't have to clamp the downtube.

Downsides include the basic nature of the tilting mechanism to access the boot. This can require a bit of force to release. The nylon straps used to secure the wheels are instantly lost if you forget to secure them then drive off (perhaps more user stupidity than a flaw). Finally, good luck in getting 4 bikes on, depending on saddle heights etc I've had difficulty getting three on. It can take a bit of working out and I have had to remove or spin saddles 90 degrees in the past to get them all on.

Despite the flaws, it would still be my first choice - upgrading to the quick attach style if I was feeling flush.

For anyone interested, here's a 200k route from Bishopton to St Andrews http://www.mapmyride.com/gb/bishopton-sct/bishop-to-saint-route-130677935. For Cupar I would take the A913 (Cupar Rd) from Newburgh.

If I were doing the route as a non-audax route, I would personally head for Dunblane, go to Braco via the B8033, on to Muthill, then Crieff and over to Perth by the road that leaves a Crief as Dollerie Terrace (can't find a number for it) this runs more or less parallel to the A85, but is much quieter and passes close to Tibbermore. At Perth head for Abernethy, on to Newburgh and then on to Cupar as above.

I did this route last year from Dunblane with Adam and never felt it was particularly busy except when I missed the road out of Crieff and ended up on the A85.

D Hazle got a reaction from james-maclaren in Wanted Garmin, but which one?
The Bryton Rider 20 provides perfectly good tracking for strava if Adam's first outing with it is anything to go by. Unlike the Garmin 200 which is around the same price, the Bryton offers ANT+ which allows you to connect speed/cadence sensors and a heart rate monitor. It doesn't provide the breadcrumb trail offered by the Garmin, but it doesn't sound as though you need this. You can pick up a Bryton 20 with a HRM for just under £70 on Merlin Cycles right now and pick up an ANT+ speed/cadence sensor for £17 at Decathlon if you want this. Battery life is reckoned to be a minimum of 18 hours so would even see you through a 200k audax :-)
