Heavy symbolism as summer ends, we rode back into the gloom up Georgetown and said goodbye to Gregh. Good luck and we will see you back here soon I am sure.

Charlie, suggest you either get a better mechanic or sell off the electric gruppo. I'll give you a tenner.

Sunset comes 2-3 mins earlier each day now. Are we out next week?

Don't be daft. That budget was blown on the Barraman's tartan jakit and troose and some fireworks the other night there. Re tarred roads in the town centre indeed.........the man's mad, mad I say.

Apologies guys but did not want to hold you back. Nothing in the legs today and ended up pootling along to Rowerdinin at 17-18 mph. Bit better on way back with wind at back and did 65 miles as tried to ride through the tiredness. Just one of those days......

    Emma,

We're a bunch of ill mannered louts, who forgot their manners, completely ignored the fact we had a young lady with us and rode off down the westferry as fast as possible leaving you to your fate. Personally I blame the event organiser. Shame on him; he knows who he is.

Anyway, welcome to the Thursday evening chaingang. It gets easier to hang on the more you turn out for them and this evening was pretty brisk from the get go. As Billy has indicated the main bunch pace is on a par with the pace along the Georgetown. Will fluctuate from time to time but we do stick together and will give riders moving into the main bunch a tow when required. More than welcome to join us and your presence would assist in lowering the average age to nearly 45!!!!!

Good run this evening. Big bunch and new faces. A welcome extended to Paul who joined us. Hopefully we'll see you again in the coming weeks.

Well that was the hardest thing I have done on a bike so far but loved it. Could not believe the pace of the riders and ended up on my own personal time trial. Thanks to Ian Coutie for the encouragement at the top of the hill, on last lap I was pedalling squares. Not so much thanks to Ginty and the two Alan's, drinking cold beers while others are suffering, mental torture. Thanks to Mark O, Paul. Billy, Charlie and all others who offered kind words at start and end. Knackered, burnt and aching in places I did not know existed but I'll be back for more.

    Cheers. Iain

Another splendid day on the bike with the Joansins!

Everybody left the clubroom together 8.30am sharp heading towards the ferry via the track to Port Glasgow, then the ferry picking up folks along the way.
What with all the groups riding together, I counted over 24 at one point most in club colours. It was a sight to behold! :-)

We caught the scheduled 10am ferry with plenty of time to spare, a few decided to continue on towards Largs while the rest crossed the water into SUNNY Dunoon. Discusion & decision was made as to who was riding which route, again we all set off towards Sandbank where some opted to take the direct course to Strachur via Lock Eck while the rest turn left heading towards the Loch Tarsan Climb, bloody 30% if my Garmin was correct.
A quick descend onto A886 heading towards Strachur for some, while 8 of us followed Al suggestion to go to Tighnabruaich instead for a lunch stop at the Kames Hotel, sitting outside with stunning view over the Kyles of Bute, it's got to be the best cafe view of a cycle cafe stop........ Oh the food and service was cracking too.
We decided to retrace our route back to Dunoon instead of Otter Ferry (good call by the way) but with a scenic detour further down the Peninsula before climbing out of Tighnabruaich for the ferry. We just manage to miss a ferry meant a wee wait for the next one.

Eventually got back to the mainland & up the Clune then track to get home before supper time!

100miles & 4600ft of climb, what a brilliant day out with everyone riding at least part of the run. Great idea Greg, we should do it more often.
I hope everyone made it home ok, we were really lucky with the weather.

Apparently Charlie & Iain C's TT was cancelled last minute, so they ventured out towards Strachur via the Rest hoping in search of the Joansins, sadly it didn't work out but I was told the pair had a great time, especially the tow to the ferry courtesy of the Paisley Velo Boys.

Thanks to everyone for the wheels today, and the extra fruitcake & bars when I really needed it.

    Cheers

Excellent day out on the bike & with a lot of new kit on show today, looking splendid indeed. I think it blends in quite well with the "original" Endura kit too.

I think I counted 16 in total today, please correct me if I'm wrong. It seems that much anyway.
We went round the full route with everyone staying together till after Lennoxtown where some folks decided to ride at they own pace on the way home. I was struggling towards the end, thanks to Billy, Ritchie & Darryl nursing me back to Johnstone along the Georgetown Road, big thumbs up to Darryl jam sandwich which help me stop the dreaded knock - cheers Darryl!

Also thanks to Allan M for the use of his air canister to pump up the tyres, cheers!

3 punctures (including my punctured front tub) & yet another sheared rear mech meant converting Iain's bike into a single speed. At this rate, I'll get a PHD in Single speed conversion soon with the practice I get :-)
By the way Iain, how did you get home? We all assume you just rode back to Fintry & just went in the pub!

Hope everyone got home safely and same again for next Sunday please!
(I meant the weather, not the mechanicals!)

Well, this is morning after our Paris Roubaix & we all survived to tell the tales!

I just want to echo Billy's comment, indeed this was extremely HARD both for man & machine.
170km, 28 sectors of horrible pave which tried it's very best to throw you off the bike, but amazingly we all manage to stay up right and finished in one piece. In fact I don't think I've actually saw anyone fell off on the Pave, although Big Al Yullie had a wee incident, he clip the kerb on a road section while trying to "protect" me of some bollards ahead, what gent! :-)
We were also lucky on the mechanical front too, only one puncture, one dropped chain & a few lost bottle between the lot of us, not bad at all everything considered.

Personally, I think this was the hardest thing I've done on a bike!
I knew this was very hard but when having not done enough training due to my recent fight with a bollard, it wasn't ideal for me but I decided to do it anyway given the fact I paid & organized it already not to mention getting new set of wheels built for this.
It was an early 4am start to a really chilly day but weather improved as the day went on.

Anyway, 13 of us set off as a group eagerly waiting to hit the first sector of Pave. But when I hit the I first, boy did I feel like crying, it was nothing I've ever experienced before. I had my hands on the drops thinking if something happens I'm close to the brakes, I've been told only the either ride on the drops or top, never on the hood. While on the pave, you & bike are thrown violently from all directions with absolutely no control of the bike at all, this of course slows you right down & this just makes it much worse. I have to admit I want to quit after the first sector, I was deliberately looking out for some support vehicle or broom wagon. Luckily I got a toll from Tom & Andy (Martins Eastcoast pal) and manage to get through 6 sectors before we rejoined the group waiting at the first feed stop. By then I was still in sh*ty mood as I did not enjoy one second of it at all.

At this point I must say a big THANKS to all my fellow wheelers - Al, AllanM, Billy, Charlie, Greg, Iain, Mark, Martin, Paul & Tom and Martin's 2 friends Andy & Garvin for getting me through this. They waited, regroup, feed & water me along the way. I honestly think that I wouldn't have done it without you guys help.

As the sector came thick & fast I manage to felt a lot more comfortable on them to the point of date I say "enjoyed" them. But the 5 star "Trouee d'Arenberg" was the worst of all, big massive stones stopping every momentone of you have of going forward & it's long and straight. The sectors are graded 2-5 stars, 5 being the hardest of course and there was three 5 star ones. In a way, this wasn't a bike ride in the usual sense but more an obstacle course, as Chris Boardman said "the PR is a circus show"!

After a long day on the saddle, we all made it to the famous Roubaix Velodrome as one big group, riding the track & finishing altogether - pure brilliant. One fellow English PRer on the road summed it up quite well, "that's some Sunday Club run you guys are doing"!
To be honest, I got a bit emotional when I cross the finish. I honestly did not think I could make it, but again I want to thanks my team mate for getting me through this!

Now, we going to watch how it should be done proper!

    Thanks for reading

    Cheers

Wee run would do me tomorrow - sprained my ankle running a few days ago. How about up barrmill and then over to lochwinnoch to do the carruthmuir road out to bow/Kilmalcolm before looping back to club rooms? Cafe stop at the junction in lochwinnoch for no reason other than the huge empires biscuits available. All runs are now supposed to be 9am starts at club room but I can be flexible.
