Guest EPCC
Guys with cars can we squeeze one more person and bike with us, as Alan is thinking of joining the tour and unless another couple join him it could be expensive. Committee Alan McLean Posted January 16, 2011 Committee Report Share Posted January 16, 2011 Billy Very kind but I am planning to bring another car! It would not be fair of me to squeeze in after you guys have committed and made all the bookings. I have booked a twin room in the same hotel for the two nights and I am about to book a ferry. I would like to split costs with one, two or three others if possible. I have asked a few folk, you know who you are! If any club members would like to join me please PM/post here. Regards Alan
2023 Subscriptions Ramsay Posted January 19, 2011 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 19, 2011 Alan, Great that yourself and Jim are joining us. If Jim is going we really will need to start some serious training!! Looking like there will be a 14 strong JWCC bunch riding through the Belgian roads in early April! Should be a great sight! Hope everyone has their full club kit for the occasion. R
2023 Subscriptions Ramsay Posted January 28, 2011 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 28, 2011 The route is now out. Haven't traced it yet, but it is at the link here: http://sport.be.msn.com/cyclingtour/ron ... s/260.html Have noticed that there are only 15 hills/bergs/muurs! I though I had read somewhere that there were 5 additional hills, on top of the normal 17. Oh yeah, it's only 258km, not 260km!!
2023 Subscriptions Ramsay Posted January 28, 2011 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 28, 2011 Much more useful link for the route!! http://omloop.nieuwsblad.be/omloop-data ... en-map.pdf Turns out there are actually 18 hills! The original link misses 1 at 139km and shows two lots of 14th and 15th! 24km of cobbles.
Committee Alan McLean Posted January 30, 2011 Committee Report Share Posted January 30, 2011 Guys Greg is definitely coming with Jim and I. Do any of you have a potential bed space in your room or an unused bunk on the boat? If not then I'll sort it. A
2023 Subscriptions charlie p Posted February 1, 2011 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted February 1, 2011 Alan My recollection is that is a spare bed floating about. If not Greg more than welcome to bunk up with Billy & i.

2023 Subscriptions P McDonald Posted February 13, 2011 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted February 13, 2011 To the fearsome Fanders fifteen (and in particular those in my car) I built up the budget Halfords Roof mounted cycle carrier this afternoon and gave it a short test run. Seems fine. See link below http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165515 I will give it a full test next weekend as I am going to Lincoln and will take a winter bike on it. We will need to organise a fitting session as it takes a bit of time to set it up to match the roof bar spacing. Plan for my car is 4 bodies in car 4 kit bags in boot 4 bikes on these carriers (or similar) - I have the roof bars Kerry oot in an undisclosed place PMcD
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted February 13, 2011 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted February 13, 2011 I'll wait until you come back, hopefully with your bike still attched to the car! See you in two-weeks. DG

2023 Subscriptions Ramsay Posted February 14, 2011 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted February 14, 2011 Darryl - You missed KennyC off the list! 15 in total. Alan, Greg & Jim. Can you confirm that you have entered and don't need added to the group entry? I may also have a practice roof rack session this week. Davie, did you have two bike racks that are available? If so, I may try and arrange to pop down this weekend to try them. PM me if you have a spare 30mins this weekend. P.S. - Paul. I meant to ask who Kerry is and why she is not getting a proper seat? DavieB
Ramsay, Yes 2 racks available ...I'll take one off and can easily drop it round so you can try it. Will let you know.
Kenny Christie
Ramsay, Can I use my own carrier on your roof bars? Its a fork mount carrier, as I'm not keen on the down tube clamps for plastic frames! It will fit either square or aero bars. I also have a down tube style carrier spare should you need it. Cheers. 2023 Subscriptions P McDonald Posted February 21, 2011 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted February 21, 2011 Delighted to report that I travelled 850 miles, mostly about 65mph with my bike on my Halfords bike carrier and it is just fine. 2023 Subscriptions P McDonald Posted February 21, 2011 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted February 21, 2011 Sorry Should add that some insulating tape type or other padding will be used when I use my good bike to stop the varnish over the carbon being marked. Jim Great, I'll be there. Who else? Has anyone got the DvD of Flanders? I've got a video, but that's too old school I think (Jim hasn't got a VCR) Darryl
DavieB
Billy - looks like your really looking forward to the night at the pics Jim - still a maybe as my plans still have to be mapped out for me ala Billy Mac, will let you know nearer the time. As for the weekend Flanders training ride don't think I'll be there as I start anti-biotics today to hopefully kill this sinus infection off and though the doc says I can train I don't think a kicking is the way to go. Might go out with the 09:30 bunch for the miles and hope they go easy on me. Davie
Kenny Christie
Friday suits me too. I can bring, 'A Sunday in Hell' a cheery seminal cycling documentary covering the 1976 edition of “L’Enfer du Nord†in the popular format of DVD. Im sure you've all seen it before, nothing to do with Flanders but pave is included, a tenuous link. Mange tout.
