Richie, methinks Tom is making a joke at his own expense.

He got lost & did a few extra k.

At least I think that's what he's doing-not even Tom knows what he's thinking!

I hated the flat fast cobbles with 25mm tyres and I doubt anything short of a hovercraft would have helped.

The climbs are short but up to 20%. I just managed on a 54/25 on Paterberg and Koppenberg but would have preferred a bailout gear.

long day, 260km or whatever, so do not be tempted to join early groups steaming past at 45kph. Suggest you regroup at feed stops to ensure all/most finish together as jwcc.

I don't know the current route but one of my most enjoyable rides was going full gas from top of Bosberg to the finish with whole jwcc contingent having already done about 250k. Much more fun as a group in blue and yellow. (And Paul MacDonald never went down the LHS of a busy street to gain a tactical advantage in the last 2k)

Have a meet up plan at the finish so you do not leave in drips and drabs. Stay until last rider finishes in the gloom.

if it raining wear a cap (as well as shorts, shoes, jersey etc)

Tyres..can I check you mean no more than 100PSI?
That's lower than I ride here without cobbles to go over?

    Hi folks,

As a few of us are doing/hoping to do De Ronde next year, can you add some helpful hints and tips to this page please?

Registration opens on Nov 1st ...did you manage to register as a group? Couldn't see anything online but it's the same folk that do LBL.

    Cheers

Important point, dont queue at the start, just steam right down to the front. We made that mistake before! Do wear mitts, (as someone who never wears them, but suffered the blisters after the Flanders) make sure you're Garmin is reinforced with insulating tape, do bend your bottle cages so they grip extra tight and ensure tyres are inflated to 100 psi max.

These are just some pointers, nothing can prepare you for the Bergs. I like to think I could enjoy a pint after most bike rides but after completing the Tour Of Flanders I had something to eat, a pint then went to my bed. #everyone else went out on the lash....

    Enjoy!

I don't think the cross dressing & cyclocross are mutually exclusive.

Paul McD does like abba so there's a clue there.

CX brigade will depart from Castle Semple Loch at 9am assuming there are at least 2 commits. It would be 'not sensible' to do it single. David Cathcart and Alan McLean are mibeez, Andy G a likely so post up intentions chaps. This is a life changing* experience and one to add to the bucket list !

*under certain weather conditions this could be changed to 'threatening'

In your absence we tagged along with Paul C to Troon, which is not like Largs. It was most enjoyable.

Not sure if i;ll be able to make it out this sunday

When we went over the haul road and the rest a few weeks ago the hills werent too bad, the hard bit was trying to stay on Alans wheel on the flat so in that respect the crow route might be a bit easier!

Greig informs me the club has a bike box.

Is this the case & if so can I book it for Flanders weekend?

Rumour has it Charlie's been using it as his piece box.

I asked Scottish Cycling (via facebook) what the logic was for the longest lap competition, and what the rider demand was for such an event.

    They answered:

Many thanks for your comments. Over the past two years, Scottish Cycling has listened to rider feedback and has heard the need for the programme of events to be more varied. As a result of this, a rolling schedule has been created which means the longest lap will not necessarily feature at every National Track League session. Scottish Cycling aims to make the schedule more open for riders from multiple disciplines to feel welcome.
It is hoped that the longest lap will provide a fun and more varied session and with the inclusion of this, riders now get four events during the evening as opposed to the previous three.
Scottish Cycling is open to feedback from members as we aspire to find a combination of events to satisfy as many riders as possible at National Track League.

Being just a bit stroppy, I've replied:

Interesting. I don't ride track league myself so perhaps I'm not the best person to comment. However I'd like to offer a couple of thoughts. I've been asking around and have found no-one in favour of a longest lap. As this is an endurance programme, why not make the races longer, so that riders have more racing, rather than more races? Secondly, shouldn't track racing just be track racing? Doesn't a move to making it "more welcoming to riders from other disciplines" risk diluting what track is all about in the first place? Or will our downhill MTB chums reciprocate by making their races less steep?

Great stuff Couttie. Well done everyone else. As Jan mentioned the start was pretty rapid and I got dropped a few miles after Mount Stuart. Decided to chill out and start a rest period so rode down to town and got an earlier ferry back.

At the club development night we discussed putting on more social nights, maybe 3 or 4 a year.

Don't think my liver could take any more than that!

I'll organise something in a few months.

Of course, by then we'll all be in training for next season so it'll be a teetotal night....
