It's amazing what a little bit of sunshine does to swell the numbers in a bunch :-)

I counted 11 head out this morning with one whole bunch doing the intended route - Alex, David C, Eric (new chap) Graham, Gerard, James, PaulC, Paul Levy, Ritchie, Tom (on his new bike - class) & myself headed off 9.15am.

Like a true reliability run, we had to have a few mishaps - a couple of mechanical, a puncture, someone riding onto a grass verge, dropped lights (that was me by the way) & mangkie mudguards. However, that did not spoil the fun at all, unbroken sunshine, no real wind to speak of & a good size bunch was a what makes a great wee run indeed.

We picked up Len on the way into Largs, then some opted to have a coffee stop at Largs (the evening trackies) while the rest of us carried onto round the coast to fulfil the West Kilbride route, but a wrong turn at Dalry meant we skipped a bit out .... oops :-)

Anyway, manage to rejoin the café bunch while back on the cycle track heading home & made our way back to the clubroom for some hot beverage & Gerard's lovely tart :-)

Thanks for wheels today guys & looking forward to next weeks Don Smith then :-)

    Cheers

Great day for a run with some good company. Felt a bit jealous of those that stopped at BB for Coffee and Scones.

Well see how the legs are tonight after that wee run!!

As a first timer out with JWCC and a fairly novice cyclist I really enjoyed the run this morning, pace and distance slightly higher than I'm used to but that's what I need under my belt to see an improvement. Big thanks to the bunch today for your encouragement, and understanding that there was a 'newbie' on board!

Blue skies, stunning views to Arran, no wind and cake at the end! Can't get much better than that.

Hope to catch up with you again soon.

    Cheers,

    Route was announced yesterday http://www.tourofbritain.co.uk/news/14384.php#.VtA_FeZly4k

Looks like the first stage will be taking in a couple of roads that feature in local races (it's hard to tell from the map but it either goes down the A77 or over the dams climb / reverse of the Sewing Bee drag) . There goes the strava leaderboards!

    Paul,

Absolutely no luck with your day the guy that caused the stramash owed you more than a coffee - I had a front row seat, anyways......

I claim the "hole shot" but then I had to slow down a bit as I didn't know which way to go!

Had a fun first lap making an effort to keep in the top three and was actually pretty OK sitting there, was 3rd running down the cobbled section for the 1st time behind somebody who obviously, though he was in the "B" race of the Super Quaich, had some delusions that he could do a Boonenesque bunny hop onto the side section, with the result that back end was lost and man and machine blocked the entire track in front of me, I went over his bike and over my handlebars - could have been a bad one but just got up and carried on losing umpteen places that I quickly made back. Sitting at home now I am actually a bit sore legs, arms and shoulder but I consider it to be a lucky escape. I had the distinct impression when I picked up my bike that there was a wheel independent of frame just behind me so I don't know if his entire bike was gubbed but may be figment of my imagination.

I was (upper) top 10 all race but for an absolutely rubbish last lap and a bit, still think this was mostly man but on washing the bike discovered that for the nth time this season my upper jockey had all but seized which probably didn't help. Wiggle order for ceramic bearing jobs already placed as I have had my fill of the bush style ones.

Great course at the Dock and a rare chance to be in at the sharp end at the start. Great to see the Wheelers out in force once again.

I was really looking forward to this race(kind of) and after a few practice laps it seemed a great course. David C, Davie B and Alex B and myself were in the B race, Alex and Davie B were gridded due to some strong performances this season. It was a good start an the Wheelers well positioned, Davie B may have even got the "hole shot" . On  the first lap we came to a long cobbled lane, this is where Davie B was taken down by a rider who had slipped on the cobbles, I saw the photos of the crash and it looked bad, what followed was a stramash behind and I was taken down, chris boardman can stick his advice where the sun doesn't shine about helmets, as I would have cracked my head on the cobbles without one(bring on Flanders eh). Delaireur broken! Race over for me ... I met up with the guy(broken wheel and derailleur) who crashed into Davie and we thought he had taken me out, he was very apologetic about ruining my race and even bought me a coffee, it wasn't until I saw the photos I realised it was Davie he had taken down(I owe him a coffee)

I watched the rest of the race and Davie B was going great at one point he was in fifth place, Alex and David C had a little battle going until Alex took a load off places back in last lap. It was a great event and the wheelers looked very strong, I would have like a few more laps but hey That's Cyclocross!

Great day and as Alan says really interesting course. Taking a hint from Gary McDonald who passed me on foot I started running quite large sections of the course in the last 3 laps - he runs faster than me though!

Alan as for time differences I have a mylaps account and I think over the 7 laps we raced together I only put about 20 seconds into you, we were pretty level pegging throughout. Well done on your in category podium.

I got another good start and was probably top 4 into the 1st corner off the V40's grid, after a couple of offs and an hours worth of shredded legs eventually finished 21st.

Excellent course and organisation. Grass, mud, singletrack, bombholes and tarmac. Bluebird skies. Frozen ground gave way to thick mud later but most of it was rideable.

Jess Millar won Junior Women and I got a  2nd in v50s. For the nth time this season I was lapped just yards from the finish line and missed a final lap. Davie was in the heat ahead of me so it was hard to compare placings but I think he put a big chunk of time into me. Awaiting lap splits for gloat/despondency.

Thanks for having the soup ready Jane, Carol, et al! A fantastic spread and just what i needed after that. Beautiful day with some stunning views of snow capped mountains on Arran and Ben Lomond. (Paul could hardly contain himself!) only one bunch set off for what was a fast run made a lot harder with the head wind on the return leg.

A bit of ice here and there but nothing too bad.

Popped after Stewarton and came back in with Ian and Daryl.

Looks as though this will be a frosty morning so take care on the ungritted cycle track and roads.
Happy to be 'on duty' this week to heat up soup for those keen souls going out but probably too chilly for me.
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE VOLUNTEER A KEY? Happy to return it after washing up done or on Monday evening at committee meeting.
Sans has donated some rocky road and I have a few rolls here too. Any more contributions?

If I am not around when you set off, please leave a note of how many in each group so I know how much soup to warm, expecting everyone back about 12:00. Anyone who wants to come along for a chat welcome then too.
    Thanks
    Jane

Weather was totally miserable during the warm up but very tolerable for racing. Me and Paul parked ourselves on the front row of the grid and though I was 4th into the 1st corner and maintained this for 3 or so laps, tyres became totally useless and my running is not up to scratch to compensate. Tyre plan already formulated for next year.

Well done Paul for another good outing. David C hope the pub was warm and dry!

A perfect day for CX and about nothing else... A seemingly simple course degraded quickly leading to another mudfest. Only myself and Davie Borland this week. Davie had a great start and was in the top 5 for a few laps but as the course degraded into a swamp his tyre choice didn't cope well and he lost some places.

After the last couple of races of falling apart in the final two laps I tried to ride conservatively and keep on eye on my HR. it worked, I wasn't absolutely gubbed by the end but finished in my worse placing so far... so back to hammering it at the start and chuck the garmin in the back pocket.

A great muddy day on the bike, still a few races left if anyone would like to try it out!

6 sufferlandrians started this morning, 4 survived!! Angels and then downward spiral was used as torture today.

Angels started well for 5 of us while Billy "fixed" his garmin/power/hr/cadence/flux capicator and then started about halfway through!

Alex and David left after angels I'm sure I heard Alex sobbing on the way out!

A wee coffee break then onto downward spiral while Paul showed his silky smooth pedalling stroke. Charlie and myself had a who can grunt the loudest and move all over the bike competition!
After two hours on the turbo we crawled off the bikes, tidied the place up and went our diiferent ways!

Please note I did receive an adequate slagging!

Enjoyable night - First was a short scratch, think i was about 5th without really getting going for the sprint. Second a devil, back to being crap at these after last week and eliminated early. Third was a 30 lap points (even shorter than usual!). Ross Clark attacked early and had about half a lap because everyone was sitting up wanting to save themself for the first sprint, i didnt bother going for that but started to chase after it with Sean Gordon, he went back to the bunch after a few laps and i was stuck between leader and the rest, i got to within touching distance  but couldnt close the final bit. Got a 2nd in the 2nd sprint, then a group of 4 or 5 caught me with about 3 laps to go and i while i could get on the back of them i didnt have anything left to sprint. Last was 30 lap scratch, again early attack and i bridged with another guy we stayed out for a bit then another few riders joined it started getting a bit messy towards the end - i went to the front with 4 laps to go and tried to stay there which seemed like a good idea at the time but about 30 seconds later really wasnt!

Well done all for finishing what was a truly tough course.

Had a decent start and I did like the fast run down to the 1st barriers which is classic let the bike do and go where what it wants 'cross terrain. My single ring set-up which has seen me through the 3 peaks and a couple of seasons finally met it's match with 2 chucked chains and continual clogging. Probably lost about eight places in the last lap with no legs, grip or indeed plot and Alex crossed the line finishing strong about 20 seconds behind.

    Good work out!

Tough race today... Mud was the word... very eh Belgian This was the hardest race so far for me(to much running uphill in mud)]... Bike weighed double by the end. Me and David C in the B race got a good start and finished we 23rd and 27th. The B race really messed up the course for the A race, with Alex B and Davie B looking strong(by strong I mean suffering and covered in mud). Great event and day!
