PaulL reacted to George in What do I do on raceday??
Did a wee recon of the course today.
I don't have a chance
The A77 section is uphill & if that isn't bad enough the wind will blow it apart.
The rest of the course is rolling (mostly rolling uphill) & clunch road is horrid.
So there you go. Might just stop in & watch Milan-San Remo.

Well done to everyone that participate & the helpers for this mornings event!
P.S Paul, you'll need to buy another bike now to do this TT-thingy properly :-)
Cheers

PaulL reacted to alexb in Don Smith Memorial Ride 2015
I'd heard about the turbo warm up. Especially for those residing nearby...
I'll take the cycle there as my warm up.
As for bling, I could fit my daughter's handlebar tassels to my bike and maybe another lollipop stick onto my spokes. Hopefully that should suffice.
Should also add, I've signed up online.

PaulL reacted to chung in Sunday 22nd Feb 2015 - Reliability #4 - West Kilbride
Well, that's was rather cold & wet this morning! :-)
3 Jets coach + 4 Wheelers in the shape of shape of Katrina, Alan McLean, Martin M, Martin (new Wheeler) Campbell (Ironman), Alan Fox & myself with the company of at least ten Jets (sorry, can't tell who's who as they're all skinny and ride with such efficiency) made up the 9.00am bunch on this last Reliability Run, in "glorious" weather round to Largs and up the Haylie via Kilburnie then home. Understandably we had to cut the run short as some of us (myself included) were suffering from mild hyperthermia :-)
I, so wanted to get in David support vehicle at Weymss Bay, but couldn't due to lack of room
Alan's tyre blow out was quite spectacular both in terms of sound & visual effect, I could literally see sparks coming from this wheel sitting behind him. I thought someone threw a firecracker at us!
Special credit must go to the Jets who rode with gusto & never heard them moan once about the riding conditions (that was left to me to do) and I think they all should be awarded with a " Rule 9" badge! :-) Respect!
Big thanks to Jane back at the clubroom for providing the welcome mushroom soup & large spread waiting for our appearance!
Thanks to everyone for the wheels today, it was obviously very much needed by me!
Cheers
Chung

--------
All true. Jets were as hard as nails today in filthy conditions. For the record they were: Matti, Charlie, Danny, Sarah, Lusia, Gemma, Hamish and Douglas.
Cheers to Ironman, Alan Fox and Martin new wheeler who did the heavy lifting on the coast between Wemyss Bay and Largs. And Jane's soup made it all worthwhile.

PaulL reacted to DavieB in Weekend viewing - Cyclocross World Champs
For anyone interested a weekend of racing avaiable via UCI Channel;
https://www.youtube.com/user/ucichannel
The womens race might shape up to be a cracker if a few in-form riders, principally Nash, prevent a Vos whitewash.
Mens elites should be good with the two under 23's who have been giving the elites a kicking all season being up against the likes of Pauwells whose schedule is now settled enough to allow him to prepare properly.
Snow was forecast so this could add to the fun.
Cheers,
Davie

Fabulous first attempt for me cycling in a group. (and a fine group it was too). Sense of achievement 100%. What was I waiting for?
Thanks to everyone for their patience, advice and general good company. Lots of lessons learned by me . On the whole I faired not too badly and hopefully as I get fitter I might even hold a straight line. Certainly hope to have another go sooner rather than later.
As we finished off, I suggested to Ken that he probably doesn't remember what it feels like on the first group ride. 'tense, aching shoulders and gripping the bars like your trying to rip them off'; there's hitting the nail firmly on the head. remembered well enough.
Have a good week everyone and thanks again

PaulL reacted to al yuille in 400km Audax 2015 - Scotland Options
Let's pencil it in. If hols get in the way we can ride one of the others. Yes Chung, am back in summer ( well , spring anyway). Got a few weeks
left in Sydney and then we are moving down to Hobart in Tasmania. Was down there last weekend and you will be pleased to hear it was 13 C and blowing hard. It's about 1500 kms south of here ( in the Roaring Forties ) so weather may prove to be a challenge. Mt Wellington is right behind the city though so a nice 20 km alpine style climb literally on the doorstep. Really must get that compact ! See you in Spring.
