  1. Rotten morning. I thought I would cycle to Johnstone to see if I could do so in the future before joining the group; not with these lungs (up the Clune brae for the first time but i made it). Ended up heading to Lock Winnoch by accident (though I am sure its a lovely place it was lack of oxygen sent me this way). Hey Ho i thought, Largs it is and then catch the wind up the coast back to Port of Glasgow. My mid life crisis will see me swapping a big engine for sails next boating season :-). Wind is all good with the right planning. That's the nonsense that was in my head when I set out. Found a challenging little hill en route to loch Winnoch made more so by a flat tyre (nearly made it though). Phoned for the support car as I was absolutely freezing and not of the mind to fix it. On a positive note, thanks to the gent who stopped in his car to ensure I was all right at the side of the road. I didn't need the assistance on this occasion but the offer sure lifted my spirit. I suspect he might now be telling the story of the half wit he spotted in the poring rain when more sensible people were on the turbo but he deserves some good karma anyway, Dusting myself off to get back on. nothing else for it. here's hoping for better weather next Sunday.
  2. I was monitoring the situation but I guess it isn't a good day for it. I think I might have struggled in the group. Might be a good day to get some shopping out the way,if there's such a thing. Considering a solo cycle from PG to Johnstone & back though so I will keep an eye out for the colours. Now I understand the turbo trainers.
  3. Fabulous first attempt for me cycling in a group. (and a fine group it was too). Sense of achievement 100%. What was I waiting for? Thanks to everyone for their patience, advice and general good company. Lots of lessons learned by me . On the whole I faired not too badly and hopefully as I get fitter I might even hold a straight line. Certainly hope to have another go sooner rather than later. As we finished off, I suggested to Ken that he probably doesn't remember what it feels like on the first group ride. 'tense, aching shoulders and gripping the bars like your trying to rip them off'; there's hitting the nail firmly on the head. remembered well enough. Have a good week everyone and thanks again
  4. Thanks everyone for the positive welcome. I had planned to train through the winter on my own and give the group a go in the new year. I will do my best to come along in the morning to get a taster of where in need to be. I'm not one to enjoy getting in the way so If I'm struggling I will drop off and let you guys get on with it. Thanks again.
  5. Hi all, I have recently started cycling. At 38, I'm obviously looking for exercise and leisure runs opposed to racing. I have managed a few 35-45 mile runs(one a weekend) on my own recently and have often spotted team colours out there. I wondered if there were any slow groups which might allow me to tag along for a bit to gauge how i'm doing etc, even just for half a run. I do have medically induced balance issues but i'm doing not too bad and would like to see if bunch riding is a stretch too far. Any advice? Thanks in advance, Colin
  6. Hi, I have posted looking for some advice in the beginners section. Can I ask what average speeds you will be 'belting' along at? What route are you taking too, so I can see if its flat A wee bit of help.
  7. Could I ride in a bunch?
