2 new tyres from Ian Dooley. He assures me they are puncture proof so the season starts tomorrow.

I dont know...its on the website version rather than the phone app, if you click on a segment there is an option to compare efforts - its to the right of the map under the fastest times part

Jannza got a reaction from KennyS in Can someone explain the Arran challenge?
Does the single Arran only apply to the 7am and the 11:05 ferry?
Just asking as there is a special timetable running at the moment.
Single loop is on my to do list, planning to do it leisurely, stop for lunch etc.

Jan
The past couple of years there has been a leisurely club run around Arran during the summer and we stop for lunch. I would like to do it again this year as it is a great route and it would lovely if you could be there.

Single should really be 7am ferry. It arrives at 0755ish but the Calmac guys often let the cars off first so bikes sometimes don't hit tarmac until 0805 to give spicy race round to board by 1050 or so.
Big advantage of back in Ardrossan by 12, home by 1230. Rest of day to sleep/garden/visit the inlaws etc.
Your leisurely ride with lunch is actually a much better idea.

Nice one Jan !
Conditions are get off a ferry then return on next one (winter) or second to next one (summer when there are twice as many ferries)
Maybe a new category required for 'leisure Single'

Closed again this weekend while they resurface the main road. You might still get through on a bike.

Flanders Tour Day 7
Brugge to Ieper
Today I travelled to my last stop - Ieper, before heading over to France on Friday. Rather than just going South West directly from Brugge, I thought I would make a detour up to the coast & back down to add some extra km & variety onto this part of my journey.
I rode through farming communities, small town, canals, coastal single carriage ways, inland dual carriage ways, coast town promenades, along side trams, dock ports etc, but one thing was constant - the friggen WIND, mostly head or cross wind too, only managed a wee tail in the beginning However, I never felt I was in any danger - cyclist (or all kind) is respected here, I lost count of the amount of times motor vehicles stopped to let me cross roads/junctions, even on busy roads. It got to a point where I actually felt embarrassed for holding them back :-/
Sorry for going on about this, but I just think personally it’s a very important factor of my reason wanting to come ride here!
Why can us Brit’s be like that
Anyway, my detour up to the coast took me to a very nice wee town call Da Haan, it reminds me a bit of Largs, with mostly kids, families & elderlies :-)
Eventually got to Ieper a bit wet & muddy after getting caught in a wee rain storm. Luckily the owners of the guesthouse I’m staying in are cyclist too, Edouard & Stephanie got the buckets & sponge out to help me clean my bike, how good is that!
Edouard also informed me that the room I’m staying in had been stayed in last year by none other than ANDREA TAFI ....... did you miss that, I’ll say it again ....... ANDREA (Lombardia, Tour of Flanders & Paris Roubaix winner) TAFI :-)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrea_Tafi_(cyclist)
(Un)fortunately the bed’s not made of Pave & the bed sheets are not the garish Mapei colours, but hopefully the magic would rub off on me, as I need all the help I can get on Saturday :-)
A few images of the coastal beach & Ieper at night :-)
Cheers

Jannza reacted to ginty001 in Commuting
Jan, how far and what kind of terrain for your commute ? I started using panniers for my commute to Glasgow a few years back, but much prefer a backpack now, all depends on how much gear you need to carry .. I’m only carrying , shirt, trousers and underwear, so pretty light, shoes, toiletries and towel in locker at work

Jannza reacted to Gerard Deeley in Commuting
I got a bike just for commuting on last year and I had a few must haves:
Disk brakes save wear and tear on over rim brakes and are more tolerant of bashed wheels.
Robust tyres with a reflective band, currently using 32s, not yet felt the need for slime filled tubes or additional protective inserts. The solid tyres have caught my eye too, maybe one day.
Cheap groupset as I do not want to be too precious about wear and tear, Claris does all I need. 50/34 and a 12-25 is ideal for me.
Fit mudguards year round.
A nice colour, for admiring - very important.
