This is growing arms and legs (no pun intended). We have gone down a certain road regards the process of the design of the club kit after what seem to be an eternity just getting to this stage. I, therefore, see no point in diverging from that path at this juncture. The time for talking about talking about kit design is past and it is time to take some action, otherwise we'll never make any progress. Mul's point regards professional design input is valid. It has been addressed. Jane has a degree of knowledge and expertise in this area which we have utilised to great effect in my opinion based on what I have seen produced. We will have professional input to the final design for the suppliers. Please see Chung's very clear explanation of the process.

As decided by the committee there will be no on forum viewing or voting on the designs - this is a private, in house matter for members and not for general public consumption. Sorry if this puts individual out we cannot meet every single person's individual requirements. The intention is not to be difficult or prissy about this but I am being firm on this point in order to keep matters progressing. I have the beginning of April in my sights as a target date for new kit being delivered, not ordered. Friday 31st is the only opportunity to view and vote on the proposed designs unless the committee direct me otherwise. Apologies if this does not suit the entirity of the body of the kirk.

http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2176036. Route of the Wiggle Hell of Hexham sportive. Sportive is the same day as Ride London if you've already cleared the wkd and don't get a place. Rode some of these roads last year and scenery is stunning. Could ride as a club awayday.

Still got the Fred Whitton route to do as well. P McD targeting so no doubt will happen come what may ! Alternative

Back to bunch riding, despite posting the initial guidance from the guy at Randwick CC I actually disagree with what he says about riding off (ie to the side ) of the the wheel in front. I think this is one of the biggest problems with our bunch riding. Too often riders position themselves well to the left or (usually) right of the wheel in front. This has the effect of forcing the rider behind them to ride further out in the road to obtain any benefit from drafting. If riders down the line do the same then the bunch is staggered all over the road causing problem for riders and other traffic. I have often been riding off the front but been forced out to ride in the wind by somebody riding between the wheels of the guys in front.
I think you should ride ON THE WHEEL. Echelons are for specific conditions on closed roads. A couple of inches either side makes sense to avoid touching wheels in the event of sudden moves in front but remember the main rule of bunch riding is do everything slowly. Bogs bunch and Thursday nights you have to ride on the wheel or you get dropped ,we should make sure we do the same on club runs so we all benefit from the bunch.

Iain, would be interested but will be riding the Passporte du Soleil in Morzine that weekend then spending the next 2 weeks heading cross country to Chamonix to do the tour de Mont Blanc and from there over to Zermatt. Big plans anyway !

    Hi Paul
I agree. I wasn't saying that anyone has to do anything, I was merely asking if it was something that the bunch could accommodate. It seems that quite a few people would actually prefer the earlier start, but as I explained in my previous email, I do not want to rock the boat. If anyone objects then I will make my own arrangements. As Billy says, 8.30 would be a compromise. Could you manage that? If so, then perhaps we can all ride out together.

    Cheers

I see there is a new ferry service from Campbeltown to Ardrossan. It leaves Campbeltown at 1655 on a Sunday and gets into Ardrossan at 2030 (£9.50). Enough light to get home or get the train if too much rehydration required on board.

Must be worth an all day trip at some point. About 100 from Johnstone - Campbeltown.

Alas no Charlie. Was a super fast start but great fun along the 77. Felt pretty hairy when we got onto the minor roads - people all over the road and several near misses with oncoming traffic. as a result I was hanging near the back of the bunch and just going round as riders went off. As Paul has pointed out this is not a good strategy. Saw Colin going backwards and not too long after was heading that way myself . Saw Andy come off just after me and was a good target for lap two. Up the 77 again I was gaining ground slowly but saw James with a puncture and stopped to offer assistance - race well over for me by then.

Slogged round lap 2 gradually catching the guy in front but when we came together we both agreed another lap was not worth it, so back up to the windmills. Never really got going and a real disappointment / wake up. Should be going well after a good winter ( summer! ) but just not been out enough recently. Hopefully temps will get into double figures in the build up to Millport.

Thanks to Ian and Darryl for the encouragement - un jour sans.

A different route recce'd yesterday and one that we should consider doing again.

A party of 6 Darryl, Ginty, Chung, Campbell John and myself set out from Miller Street, up the Bowfield and followed the usual route to Fenwick and ove to the start of the Moscow circuit. Darryl and Ginty baled here due to time constraints, leaving 4 to continue down into Galston. Took the A71 up through Darvel and on to Strathhaven for a cafe stop. Good shout Chung - one to add to the list. We then headed out of Strathaven towards East Kilbride through Chapleton before making a left hander to take a series of country lanes back towards Eaglesham, the A77 and back to Johnstone.

I baled en route to Eaglesham and headed for Jackton and home. A pretty good morning in the saddle on some good rolling roads, the pick of which has got to be the 2 miles (approx) of pothole free, smooth, poker straight section of tarmac which we turned onto off the East Kilbride road. Has to be ridden to be believed. I forgot to reset my computer before setting out yesterday but I'm guessing 60-65 miles.

Sorry Billy , as regards the club run you should do the extra loop up over the wind farm . Go straight on at Carronbridge and then left just beyond North Third reservoir to bring you back out at west end of Loch Carron.
