I don't think any of the races crossed the ravine of doom - think it was in spate and salmon were running.

Turned out another cracking day and warm in the sunshine. Good fun all round.

Series takes a couple of weeks break before emerging in more northern climes - will probably do the Kinross leg of the series and the Winter Carnival thingy on the 29th November.

    Alan,

Your bike appraisal skills are up to scratch but you need to learn how to count.

A top 20 showing for your good self is very good going.

That red blaze hill is truly horrible and my lap times fell off a cliff at the end, but still fun.

Hopefully some more wheelers out at Irvine.

''Twas fun as always, tried a more a measured effort rather than killing myself. Unfortunately far too measured to get anywhere near the front, and this is forgetting the first twenty or so who are in a different league. Something approaching 140 riders in the v40 race which rendered the first lap a write off as you hear the gun going but have too wait for about 30 seconds to start pedalling, followed by carnage 300 metres up the track.

My bike remains the star in our partnership.

Looking forward too next week, hopefully your wounds will have healed by then.

BTW Have you seen yon YouTube video called "The Ridge"? 😛Don't be getting any ideas now?

Thanks to everyone who came out this morning, timekeepers, helpers and spectators alike. I'm really grateful.

And fair play to the riders who took on the hill. Forcing yourself up that slope at full tilt is really, really hard, irrespective of how long it takes to get to the finish line. The wind today was just insult to injury. Well done, folks!

    All,

Unless I am mistaken, the seldom mentioned hill climb champiosnhip is on THIS Sunday, up the Elliston climb.

Can't make it myself and have no idea regards organisation (inc. road closures) but I thought I would point this out in an attempt to keep the event alive.

I have basically already hung up the road bike for the year so an off road blast at the weekend suits me just fine.

    Colin,

The eerie silence to your query, probably means "No".

I plan to race as much as reasonably practical this year so hopefully will have some Yellow and Blue company at a few races. I have entered the Bute "open" race so the agony starts on Saturday.

Re. training I am still trying to regain some fitness from my lay-off and through some research on the cyclo cross sites have been concentrating on "tabata" intervals - basically blocks of short (20 second) intervals with an even shorter 10 second rest, sounds simple enough but which in reality is horrendous. This mixed in with a few Sufferfest videos to get some longer intervals will hopefully do the trick.

Weekends will probably see me in Parkhill woods but wouldn't mind finding a more cross like circuit as the rocks and roots are a wee bit extreme and have led to some problems running lower pressures on my tubeless rims (burping).

As for honing my very modest skills, my remounts are still useless and will no doubt remain so, but in terms of handling and control if you can run on tubeless or tubs at lower pressures it makes an unbelievable difference. Swapping from canti's to disc brakes has also been a revelation with the novel feature of having brakes that actually slow you down.

Would be good to get a few more bodies racing as it is one of the more fun ways to race on your bike.

    Cheers,

After the 2-up "affair" it would be good to get some riders, supporters and helpers at the hill climb. It will die on it's backside otherwise.

Unfortunately I can't compete as I will be at Callander park for Cyclocross race.

If I have time today I will post a reminder that the hill climb championship is indeed on as some of these events don't seem to get a lot of publicity - no dig intended as I appreciate the work committee members put in and everybody (including me) should be helping out as much as we can. It's our club after all.

    Andy,

Depends where you want to ride,if there are any decent courses round your neck of the woods I would head over to the coast. Otherwise I would suggest Parkhill Woods and try and find a more cross like circuit it can be done.

As for participation at the events, it has always been EOL friendly but if you read the minutes of the general meeting they are trying to discourage this so would suspect entering on-line is the only guarantee. I have entered the first few races.

Baptism of fire at Bute yesterday blew a gasket after 30 minutes, forgot how tough it is.

Corner resurfaced about 2 weeks ago. Very nice surface , don't know if they have did any on the back side of the circuit though.

    P.S. well done to all.

Richard, one of the good things about 'cross is if you see cars coming towards you it is an indication you have taken the wrong turn.

    Martin,

Perhaps not as sometimes cheapo Clarks cables can be your friend, a universal brake cable with the opposite ends capped by either shimano or campag stops. Cut off the one you don't want........genius! They probably stretch like bungee cord but worth a go.

TBH the comparability issues are a pain but would prefer to keep the Campag shifters, never had an issue with these and remarkably the most cost effective option amongst the big three.

A Record man such as yourself would be unimpressed at my déclassé mix of sub Centaur parts anyway

The roads were as smooth as the boards of a velodrome and the little rain we had merely helped keep us cool. Exceptional run though I believe Ian's power meter requires a wee bit of calibration as I'm sure I was pumping out enough to light a 12 foot flu tube as opposed to your bog standard 50 watt bulb.

Billy, Colin I did you a bit of a dis-service as you would still have made it back in time if you did the extra loop, have a very poor handle of ETA estimation.

"Carry on Puncture Repair" starring me and Alan premeried on the Moscow loop today. Being stuck in my wee chain ring from the first climb out of Stewarton was another highlight but the best part of the day was my bonk in absolutely atrocious conditions on my way back from the club rooms - had to stop at Lochwinnoch for a rice crispy caramel thing to see me home.
