I think she was just relieved that we were not visiting A&E

Talking to the girls on Sunday, I said I've got a petrol strimmer and would do the grass, preferably on a frosty day when I can't go out on the bike. Can the gate key be arranged? Does the club have any other wrinklies like myself who would help? One day or morning a week for a couple of weeks would make a big hole in the work.

Ritchie we have pre emptive entries so anytime now for entering. I'm going to enter and ride on the day but do the run at a more social pace and enjoy the scenery. That's my thinking for now, not ruling out getting sucked in on the day and putting in a shift. We'll see.

ginty001 reacted to Iain Cowden in Saturday 9th November
Kenny Christie and I met up on Paisley Rd W to head over to Miller St for 9.30 - no surprise that no- one else there given the cold rain!
We headed out up Bowfield, left over to Peesweep, Sgt. Law, down Shilford hill, across to Uplawmoor, then over the back road to Dunlop. From there over to Beith via Barrmill, then down the back road (now re-surfaced to great effect as far as the stone bridge at the first turn off for Beith) to the rear of what was previously the Hungry Monk, and on to Lochwinnoch. A welcome café stop there to heat up, then back to Morrisons, over to Houston, down the Georgetown to the Red Smiddy, where Kenny headed home over the bridge and I home via Renfrew. Almost exactly 60 miles for me and a good bit more for Kenny. There were actually quite a few cyclists out and about.
In truth probably a better day for the Hoydrome or the turbo, but nevertheless we had a fine run out in true winter conditions, visiting some roads not seen in a while. BTW modern cycling clothing is fantastic!

Thanks to those who waited this morning/sorry for holding you back.
Mrs D dutifully picked me up but getting her to me was a bit of a carry on.
This was due to:
A) my poor directions
her poor interpretation of my directions
C) poor/intermittent phone reception
D) the wind making it sound like I was calling from a ridge on K2
Combination of the above led to me shouting down the phone & her shouting back that she couldn't hear me followed by a pause then us shouting over each other followed by another pause then the call cutting out.
Of course, we then called each other back at the same time, time and again.
Then I would get the "searching for signal" message.
So I ended up waiting nearly an hour to be picked up, by which time I was truly frozen & miserable.
Guess what?
That's right, she had left all sorts of junk in the boot AND brought the DOG with her!
Much faffing & mumbling & under the breath cursing ensued followed by a stony silence on the way home.
I'm away to bed to defrost.
Bike still in boot.
Harrumph.

Yes we are on for saturday morning. Plan will be to deal with any detritus left behind and dealing with the expected layer of dust. Vacuum cleaners at the ready gentlemen. Shouldn't take too long. Ideally if we can leave the store, kitchen and toilets in state where the Monday evening team can do a thorough wipe down.

ginty001 got a reaction from Ramsay in CLUBROOMS
Okay folks,
Greig will meet Paul McD, Darryl and MarkO at the clubrooms at 8am on Saturday, that leaves myself , Paul C, Kenny B and Ramsay for Monday night.
With a couple of more painting days to follow, hopefully we can get the clubrooms fresh and functional for all...
cheers

ginty001 reacted to Ramsay in Hr monitors
Charlie,
If you are going to get a Garmin, as Richard says, a 500 with HR and Cadence is a good deal. However, could I suggest that you speak to our club sponsors Dooleys, as I got a really good deal on mine there last year.

ginty001 reacted to Iain Cowden in Saturday 26th October
Myself and Mary will be heading out for some steady miles, perhaps 50-60 from the clubrooms at 9.30am. Company welcome, pace 15-16mph average, re-grouping after any significant climbs.
Open to suggestion routewise but would want to minimise busy roads (as usual)! An option could be Bowfield/Gateside/Barrmill/Kilwinning/W Kilbride/Dalry/Kilbirnie, with options to return via the track or golf club road to Lochwinnoch and extend the run via Johnshill/Howwood or Quarriers for anyone who fancies the miles/hills. Very happy to go with the flow on the morning.
Thanks
Iain

ginty001 reacted in any intermediates out this Sunday?
Exactly.
If you can stay upright I'll keep Colin & Mark in check.
Don't worry about Gumley, he posted up on book face that he's having Ross over for a sleepover on Saturday then riding the cross race

ginty001 reacted to Darryl Gunson in Winter bike for sale
After returning from a half-term break I'm surprised to see the interest in my original post. It is clear that this is quite a controversdial subject - thanks to Alan etal for clarification - but one thing we can all agree on, I hope, is that, other things being equal (a big assumption), one CAN have too many bikes, if the exisitng steeds deprive a NEW bike of a place in the stable!
BTW anyone need a winter bike!
