Apologies to all for not listening to Graham's sage advice about the weather - should have gone south and east and avoided the cold, wet weather down the coast.

Yet another cracking day on the saddle with the Mighty Joansins!

Early start for everyone having to drive down to the start. Chilly morning it was indeed, we rode the first 63 miles loop as a group of 12, we were almost the back marker interms of the start groups. However we made good progress and had it not been a few punctures & Billy very profession slide on some gravel on the road (which took down poor Colin & Andrew, luckily I was a bit far back and manage to avoid landing on Billy), we would have been moving up the road pretty swiftly. As it was, we still manage to pass a number of riders who started way before us.

A well supplied & served lunch stop meant we were all eager to start the afternoon loop. Luckily the slight tail wind up Wanlockhead climb help to ease the suffering just a bit. But the exposed flat section next to the motorway with the strong headwind was a nightmare especially for me, thankfully the guys let me sat in the back and the gel saw me through this tough bit. A quick (not for me) descend back the the castle was spoiled by the fact I was totally gubbed with just a mile to go. I was pedalling squares and the good folks of the Blue & Yellow waited patiently for me to cross the finish line in a bunch ........... thanks, very much appreciated!

I could hardly un-clip myself, but the sight of all those rolls & cakes spurred me on to walk the few meters so I can grab as much as I can, where upon I just stuffed me face :-) brilliant!

P.S Today Colin asked me a question that no one have ever ask me before while out on a bike - "do you carry a cassette lock ring tool?" :-)
Maybe I should from now on, but do I carry a Shimano or Campag? Billy, what do you think?

    Cheers

Good day despite the mechanicals ( my own included) the rattle kicked in again just as I crested the summit at mennock pass and I decided it was better to press on than to force everyone to listen to the coffee grinder noise for the rest of the way

Thanks for the assistance Chung think team sky are looking for a mechanic. Hope you're wheel is ok for Paul's Arran challenge next week billy come to think of it hope my legs are ok too !

I'm sitting around, being particularly lazy, filling my time watching the Paris-roubaix highlights on ITV4....yes, I'm quite late...

I said after the sportive ' Blimey! That was hard. I will NEVER ride the pave again!!'

But!...watching this and seeing Boonen (in particular) ace the pave, I'm thinking, blimey, I want back on!! And like the commentary said ' once you learn to ride the pave, it becomes your best friend.'

Why am I drawn back to these stones?

    Just a thought....

If you want to try for size before buying, go to Cafe Seimpre over at the Westend of Glasgow. They have fitting kits there you can try on to know your size.

Another splendid day on the bike with the Joansins!

Everybody left the clubroom together 8.30am sharp heading towards the ferry via the track to Port Glasgow, then the ferry picking up folks along the way.
What with all the groups riding together, I counted over 24 at one point most in club colours. It was a sight to behold! :-)

We caught the scheduled 10am ferry with plenty of time to spare, a few decided to continue on towards Largs while the rest crossed the water into SUNNY Dunoon. Discusion & decision was made as to who was riding which route, again we all set off towards Sandbank where some opted to take the direct course to Strachur via Lock Eck while the rest turn left heading towards the Loch Tarsan Climb, bloody 30% if my Garmin was correct.
A quick descend onto A886 heading towards Strachur for some, while 8 of us followed Al suggestion to go to Tighnabruaich instead for a lunch stop at the Kames Hotel, sitting outside with stunning view over the Kyles of Bute, it's got to be the best cafe view of a cycle cafe stop........ Oh the food and service was cracking too.
We decided to retrace our route back to Dunoon instead of Otter Ferry (good call by the way) but with a scenic detour further down the Peninsula before climbing out of Tighnabruaich for the ferry. We just manage to miss a ferry meant a wee wait for the next one.

Eventually got back to the mainland & up the Clune then track to get home before supper time!

100miles & 4600ft of climb, what a brilliant day out with everyone riding at least part of the run. Great idea Greg, we should do it more often.
I hope everyone made it home ok, we were really lucky with the weather.

Apparently Charlie & Iain C's TT was cancelled last minute, so they ventured out towards Strachur via the Rest hoping in search of the Joansins, sadly it didn't work out but I was told the pair had a great time, especially the tow to the ferry courtesy of the Paisley Velo Boys.

Thanks to everyone for the wheels today, and the extra fruitcake & bars when I really needed it.

    Cheers

st Christopher tt was cancelled at last minute due to roadworks so Ian couttie and myself discarded the tt bikes for proper road bikes and headed up to Strachur via the rest and be thankful to meet up with the main bunch for lunch. We did our own 2 up tt to arrochar where we stopped for a coffee and cake or in Iain's case cream cake. Sat outside in glorious sunshine overlooking the Cobbler. we then headed for The Rest but instead of taking main road we went up the old military road. There was a classic car race going up the hill and despite our best efforts we did not podium. Having hit the summit we had a glorious downhill section followed by a trip along Loch Fyne to Strachur. There we saw no wheelers but were joined by Stevie and a few fellas from Paisley Velo. We gladly joined their train as far as The Clune.
Smashing day even though we missed the mighty joansin.
Hopefully I have followed Jans instructions and there should be 2 photos attached

    Hi John,

I hope you enjoyed your Dunoon ride yesterday and hopefully we've made you & Gordon welcome in the bunch!

I would have like to chat more with you, but being in a big bunch has its draw backs :-)

Anyway, hope you'll come out again & your friend Gordon too, in the mean time if you have any query please feel free to shout out.

There's a large group of us doing the Drumlanrig Sportive down near the Boarders this coming Saturday, so watch out for any run posted for Sunday & see what you fancy.

In the mean time, take care & hope to see you on the road soon.

    Cheers

    Hello John & Gordon,

    Welcome to the mighty Joansins!

As Billy said, come along for this Sunday run starting from the clubroom (Miller Street, Johnstone) and see what all the fuss is all about.
It's an early start for this Sunday - 8.30am, remember to bring with you some cash if you want to head over the water for the ferry & lunch! Also, spare tubes, drinks & snacks to keep yourself topped up during the ride. It'll be fun! :-)

So, looking forward to see yous!

    Cheers

    Kenny,

I believe that is so according to my invoice, but the tax seems to be a bit more at 20.5% ?
There is also a small handling & shipping charge on top, which for me with 2 items were £2.00. I'm not sure if that'll increase if you order more items.

    Hope that helps!

    Cheers

    Darryl,

I have extra small short sleeve & extra small gilet, and I find the fit spot on. I had them both on on yesterday's run.

If in doubt, best to go to Cafe Sempre and try on the gilet for size.

    Hope that helps!

Excellent day out on the bike & with a lot of new kit on show today, looking splendid indeed. I think it blends in quite well with the "original" Endura kit too.

I think I counted 16 in total today, please correct me if I'm wrong. It seems that much anyway.
We went round the full route with everyone staying together till after Lennoxtown where some folks decided to ride at they own pace on the way home. I was struggling towards the end, thanks to Billy, Ritchie & Darryl nursing me back to Johnstone along the Georgetown Road, big thumbs up to Darryl jam sandwich which help me stop the dreaded knock - cheers Darryl!

Also thanks to Allan M for the use of his air canister to pump up the tyres, cheers!

3 punctures (including my punctured front tub) & yet another sheared rear mech meant converting Iain's bike into a single speed. At this rate, I'll get a PHD in Single speed conversion soon with the practice I get :-)
By the way Iain, how did you get home? We all assume you just rode back to Fintry & just went in the pub!

Hope everyone got home safely and same again for next Sunday please!
(I meant the weather, not the mechanicals!)

    Cheers

    Chung
