Just a thought as I might be driving to Durham that Friday night.
Would it be possible to put a photo or diagram of the options and take a vote over the forum?
Thanks to those who have put this together

    Will be Saturday April 19th.
It will go on Entrycentral in a few weeks and I will give everyone notice beforehand.
Looking for a big JWCC turnout in memory of JD.

Stuck this on facebook tonight and it looks like there might be some honners from other clubs.
Might end up with a mini peleton barrelling round Arran !

This is it. THE challenge for 2014. Comparable to anything you will find on the continent.
2 laps of Arran between 2 ferries. Or indeed join in for 1 lap between 1 ferry, this is a significant challenge in itself - I know from painful experience !
Have studied the logistics of ferry times and bottom line is average of 19.7 mph for 108 miles for the 2 lapper.
For the single loop the average required is 20mph for 55 miles.
Note 2nd lap takes a shortcut but over a big hill ( The Ross! )
So an opportunity to be part of a single or double epic.
Proposed date a weekend in May when there is no WOSCA race.
I reckon at least 6 needed for the 2nd lap. As many as possible for first lap.

So who might be interested ?

Just to mention bogs run from Jan 4th is as per black book tradition, to Kilwinning with habble up the Barrhead road. Couriers et al are up for it.

Hmmmmm, don't know if these are acceptable excuses.
Anyway you missed the best of the year - by a mile. At least 6 wheelers and 2 jets I can remember and about 16 in total.
Brilliant run round the usual route to Howwood. And we saw more JWCC in the shape of Bill and Iain between W Kilbride and Dalry.
Pace was keeping moving and chapeau to Lewis and double chapeau to Sarah, just brilliant to see them riding 70 miles in the cold when it usually take a few years to get that sort of stamina. The future is bright for these stars.
Wish every day was a Saturday.

Great bogs bunch today. 14 strong. Especially good to see charlie out again and digging in to howwood - chapeau that man first time back out. And a very strong surge for the 30 at Largs which inadvertently led me out and we got a 1-2
Davie B relinquished the cx bike for the day and enjoyed the driest saturday for at least a month.
Pace was quite subdued with a couple of short exceptions into largs and on admiralty circuit.

Yes 25mm becomes almost impossible with crud 2's. I agree with Chung though, these are excellent for 23's especially if you add a bit of chicken tikka carry out carton to extend the front guard !
No mudguards really work with 25's on a race geometry frame.

On the very interesting topic of healy v WK I can add that Largs to Lochwinnoch is 45 mins give or take dependent on wind. So Largs to Kilbirnie Tesco would be 35 mins.
In conclusion the difference is described by the formula E=MC2 modified by dividing by the 4th root of Pi.
    The answer is 20 mins.

By track I meant velodrome (not cycle track) and by mud I meant cyclocross !!
Was just highlighting the vast range of cycle related acttivities we can all indulge in these days.
And I couldn't agree more - especially as one who cannot wear glasses - muddies all round for any road stuff

Bogs bunch today = 5 JWCC, who had a splendid ride round to Largs then up the haylie. Kudos to Alan, Colin, Billy and Darryl for getting the job done on such a wet and dreich morning.

Don't think I'll get my weekly fix next week as heading to Newcastle with rower and boat

Whatever formula or theoretical argument is used the answer is always the same. And its simple. Another bike is always justified.

Oh, and it sounds like a decent bike for sale at the start of this thread!

My research suggests Costa Blanca has driest climate in Europe excluding Canaries.

    From world weather online,

Calpe, Av high March 20, av low 9, rainfall days 7, rainfall amount 20mm
Granada, Av high 20, av low 4, rainfall days 8, rainfall amount 30mm

Being inland Granada quite a bit colder at night in March. That said cycling 30km inland on Costa Blanca in March the temp is down at 6c in the very early morning too.

Calpe just shaves it for me but happy to go somewhere different. Lots of excellent Chinese in Calpe and the Col de Rates time trial too.

Yes Rothesay was grand day oot as always. Weather was best it has been for many years, usually wet, wild and dung spattered roads. Sunday was dry, warm with dry dung. I had a temporary break from my break from racing as the prospect of a dry Rothesay was just too good to miss. I am weak but it was worth it!
Andy and I in group 3 of 4. Group 4 had only 4 elite chappies. First 15 miles were purgatory for me as I have only being doing weights for past couple of weeks but came round a bit after turn. Lost big ring for a bit where Andy and another guy I know very generously pushed me. I had accepted I would need to chuck it as the road flattened out and the big ring would be required. I was frantically spinning the 34-12 when suddenly I got big ring back so of course had to stay there for remainder. Elite group catching us jacked up the pace and eventually the group blew apart amongst much munching of stems. Andy and I were in group of 8 or so approaching last long drag with 6 to go. Andy, performing exceptionally well in his first season racing ( hard to believe that one) just lost contact or so he told me as I couldn't see anything except a reddish haze and a hub in front of me. And so road racing over for a few months but there is always track which I shall be returning to after the remainder of my 1 month break.
