martin reacted to Richard in Wednesday 20th Feb
Four Wheelers riding tonight, with Colin H making his debut. Lots of Jets, too, and a handful of bikeless cheerleaders in the track centre. The Mulholland brothers gave the grown-ups a good showing up again - two 3rd places and one 2nd place for Lewis in the Bs, and two 3rd places and a win for Danny in the Youth group! Well done again, lads. Classy.

I've entered. I'm on early shifts on Wednesday and Thursday, but I'll ride anyway - if I get a start - and deal with the consequences afterwards. I dropped my bike and rollers off tonight and had a wee keek at the track while I was there. I think I saw Lewis on the boards amongst a healthy complement of Jets. It was a very noisy session whoever they were. Lots of shouting.

martin got a reaction from james-maclaren in Bute Triathlon now open
Realised I've misunderstood the Bute Triathlon. When I lived there I'm sure its was pints at Mac's bar, dancing at the Harbour disco and then chips at Zavaroni's.
Things have changed.

martin reacted to Richard in Track league 6th Feb....register by 1800 Sunday
A masterclass in spinning from the Mulholland brothers. Well done, lads. That was brilliant. For those of you who aren't up on these things, Lewis' gear is tiny compared to the adults in the B group. He's out-pedalling us to stay in the bunch and compete - and win!
I got clattered by a rider drifting up the banking for the second week in a row. He put his foot into my bike, which wobbled and lost speed. The poor guy behind me went into my back wheel. I managed to stay upright but he went crashing down. I hope he's OK. There was a trail of blood down the length of the fence in the home straight for the rest of the night.

martin reacted to P McDonald in Track league 6th Feb....register by 1800 Sunday
A fine night at the drome for JWCC
The ones I know of are
Danny a 1st and 2nd - outstanding
Lewis - won the B devil - also outstanding
Richard - =3rd in B points - and he said he was just going to experiment with gears!
Me - 4th in B scratch
Pretty certain JWCC would get the team prize for the B series tonight ( if there was one!)

martin reacted in Where is my race licence and why hasn't been posted directly to me?
This may be a bit left field but have any of you thought of phoning BC & asking to whom your license was sent, if at all?
The 1st license BC sent me never turned up. Neither Ian Manson nor Jann got it.
I called BC and they despatched a duplicate to Jann which she forwarded to me with stunning allacrity.
Happy hunting RSN (Real Soon Now).

That is brilliant.
You might have missed a critical part.
How to pin numbers on to a skin suit, correct orientation and not parachutes and without rips, tears, blood etc !!

Be at least a Youth B (age 12) and get advice from club coaches if you are starting as a youth.
Get track accreditation. See elsewhere on forum and Braveheart for hints how to get this quickly. This is a compulsory six hour programme to ensure a minimum safe standard.
If you can pass accreditation and hang on behind a 50kph derny you can race
Get a British Cycling race licence, around thirty to seventy quid depending on add-ons.
You must have a BC licence, the coms (referees) are checking this at the track
Apply online through the BC website with your BC race licence number and credit card (£10 for senior, £5 for younger riders) by 1800 on the Sunday before.
Apply to enter Group D. Although this is nominally the "starting group" the organisers mix up the groups a fair bit so there are some pretty experienced riders in it.
Arrive at track by six to sign on. You can hire a bike for the evening for £10-£15. If you arrive by six this gives you time to sign on, change and warm up for 20 minutes. Last sign on is 1840 so you can still get there from work.
Find the JWCC group in track centre and set up rollers if you have them.
Racing starts at 7. There are currently five groups, A,B,C,D,Youth with four races each so you may have 20 mins between races. Youths race early and finish by 2030ish. Seniors finish about 2150.
Check the program and get to the starting gate 5 minutes early for your race.
Follow the coms instructions. Drink water. Have fun. Cheer clubmates.
Post a report.

I think we had eight riders in total today. Senior ranks were reduced to George and Billy who were both in at the kill in their races but we had a much better turnout in the youths with six riders.
Lewis was working hard at the sharp end in the senior B group again and the other five were in the Youth only races where they were riding very fast and much neater than the seniors.
All our young riders were right in the bunch throughout their races. Good attacks from Euan, Danny and Sarah at the sharp end and Katie and Alana were only a wheel short of the best riders. Euan learnt how to tighten his seat post .
The club coaches were pretty pleased to see five Jets in the last seven of the devil .
One year ago I reckon we would have seen riders pinging off the back every few seconds but our young riders are now holding their own with the best around. Just need 1% more!
I joined the trolls in track centre and had a great time.

martin reacted to ginty001 in Armstrong Oprah interview
My take on it is slightly different..... I dont think its a surprise about the drugs, and apparently he wasn't doing anything different to a lot of other pro cyclists at the time, in terms of taking the drugs. The thing that seperates him from the rest is that he as a person, was willing to continually deny, sue truethful people, have his kids believe his lies, destroy other riders careers and ability to earn a living, because of his sheer greed and lust for money, fame, iconic profile, etc, the man is a scumbag... And even listening to the interview, I didn't detect an ounce of sincerity or remorse, just a self pitying egomaniac ... Maybe in the long run the sport will benefit form the whole episode, here's hoping....

Results now on BC website.
I was a little unfair to Danny who did get two third places! But we all know he can do more!

Well, I was surprised at the result too - thought the best I could hope for was 3rd, but I wasn't really paying attention. If Lewis thinks he won it, then he's probably right

martin got a reaction from Jannza in Jets bunch run this morning
Wintry weather and heavy snow at Fenwick put a stop to the planned WoSCA road trainng session today, but 5 jets - Alana, Katie, Adam, Lewis and Danny and three dads (Alan, Kenny and Martin) got out for a low level 50km instead. Here's the route http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=491989
PS corner shop in Barmill very good for a Bovril stop

martin reacted to Alan McLean in Pies and pursuit-19th dec, team wanted
Hi
Yes this is a nuisance but I am taking Katie anyway so will also take my kit in the hope of a ride.
There are bound to be cancellations.
At least I can enjoy the atmosphere and spend 30 minutes on rollers and have a pie.
As Al says, assuming no rechaifage, refauchage, refucgahe, whatever, it was only ever going to be 8 laps of pain or maybe 16 if we got through a round. I think Janette has cut it to 2k.
Bonus Christmas Prize Question!
Firstly assume SC run a standard tournament knockout with no separate youths comp, refauchage thing or 3rd/4th place race.
If there are forty-one teams then how many heats must there be to produce a winner?
Answers to my premium rate phone line or post here if too lazy to phone.
Winner gets a new custom Pinarello with Di2 electronic shifting and Zipp Firecrest 202 wheelset personally delivered by Bradley Wiggins and his nan and then goes for a pint with Brad and Mark Cavendish.*
Alan
*Terms and conditions apply. Winner may not receive actual wheelset, or bike, or see Bradley or Mark. But his nan might come. (no, not really. Ed)

martin reacted to Alan McLean in Isn't Scotland brilliant?
On Wednesday I was in a world class velodrome drinking really good coffee, trying to race and watching some excellent trackies.
Today I was at a world class MTB venue, Glentress, with well marked, immaculate trails for all abilitities. I rode for three hours. I had a HOT SHOWER followed by more coffee with a ham, Brie and chili panini.
Tomorrow I will probably go for a ride with the best club in the world.
See you out there

martin reacted to Big Al in Track League 12th Dec
The last 3 weeks results, like buses, have all come along at once, on Scottish Cycling. A lot of Wheelers mentions, mostly both Mulhollands (although not as many Danny's as there should be), Gunson, and a man named McDonald

martin got a reaction from a.yeoman in track rules
The velodrome is in the far east, after all.
I'm certainly no expert on track rules, but I think it's to stop team orders. Some of the Glasgow Riderz got a severe talking to by the Comm on Wednesday night for riding as a team.
