Long way round the bottom is longer, barely slower but leaves something in the tank and may be faster overall. The Ross killed me last time. Â Apologies if we have gone over this ground ooooh about a hundred times. Â Anyone doing this needs to really check their bike the week before. Cannot have more than one minor mechanical in the bunch for this to succeed. Also need to avoid public holidays/highland games, we lost time in Brodick behind a marching band last year. Mark O Posted February 8, 2016 Report Share Posted February 8, 2016 For the pedants and just mess with Paul's head, the true long way and complete circumnavigation around Arran is to do the drop down into Kildonan, ride along the coast road thru the village and then do the tough climb back onto the main road. This would add probably 1.5 miles onto the distance. There is another small loop off the main road at King's Cross but from memory it is a glorified farm track and probably doesn't count...........   At least 3 miles short on the DA of 56 + 56, and at an average of 20mph that's nearly 10 minutes to find to catch the ferry - just sayin' like.  Would be up for being road fodder if the DA is happening post Spain, wouldn't be anywhere near fit enough until then based on Saturday's ride.
