Have to agree with Greg. Cycling and jwcc should be for all, not just for the middle aged and middle class. It's bad that cycling has become the new golf, no need for jwcc to become one of those elitist type clubs. There's something romantic about the blood sweat and tears of nailing yourself on the bike, whether it be on mid week training runs, long hard Hilly club runs, challenging sportives or racing. It would be amazing to also do this abroad, pricing out fellow club m8s to amble around the country side to then retire to a king size duck feather duvet just seems wrong ... treat the wife/boyfriend whomever if that's your bag... hard days cycling, enjoy the beer, somewhere to rest the head, simple.

I'm laying it on a bit thick but you get the point

Also, been thinking a bit more about the maths. There is 5h40m to do the double. So even after a 4 min break you could do it with 2 laps of 2h48m. So given we did a 2h41m today then we should probably ease back a bit on first lap. Conclusion, I am sure there will be a few more DA vets this year. It's easy on paper of course ......

Andy ignore MacBagel he's rambling inanely again. I met him and the Bison on the track this morning and I'm sure he noticed how incredibly lean and fit I'm looking these days, and felt he so bad about life that he suffered a fatal humour bypass later in the day, resulting in chronic grumpyits. Apparently retirement has latent side effects. Added to which his beloved St Mirren will be playing third tier fitba next season. The severe condition causes irrational random verbiage. Sufferers are more to be pitied than scolded, as a former Govan riveter once said.

The ticket guy has the same status as the man from Del Monte. He says YES!!! Personally, I think a beer at the Douglas is better than one on the ferry.

Well done to all who broke their SA duck today. Good going lads. Chapeau to you all.

There is precedent in law regarding the Andy issue. The Supreme Court ruled a number of years ago that if the ticket dude would allow you on to the ferry then it counts. So well done Andy.

Can confirm Andy managed the single.

Afternoon was really nice and the sun came out. The new cycling cafe is pretty good too.

Had 3 hill intervals in amongst the 90 miles, pretty pleased with the results and the impact a bit of weight loss of the winter has made. Still a fat expletive deleted though so a long way to go.

Jan can attest that the ticket guy stated I could board the boat. so that counts and has counted previously.

Ticket collector is judge and jury! I can remember when Jan and I were ahead and hammered up to collector to check we could still get on the ferry. Aye, no bother. Cheers! And we turned round and went back to the junction. Over the next five minutes another four JWCC arrived individually and asked him the same thing. All turned round and headed back to Brodick. The guy must have wondered what we were taking!

Just to confirm got SA confirmed by ticket collector. Total nightmare ride South Island and thanks to the fine gentlemen of the JWCC for patience, pacing and support. Jan and I went over string to the Velo cafe then over Ross back to Brodick then up the Lochranza climb and back down. An additional 54 miles for the afternoon.

In the interests of diversity and inclusion of JWCC immigrants I hope you're planning a few Ayrshire segments?

Excellent weather in Stirling today for some good racing. Managed to catch the Youth A. Johnstone Jets distinguished themselves and Mul looking like a very happy chappy.

I was 4th cat race 1. Some strong guys in my Bunch including Gary MacDonald and James Tree. I was well up in front group until lap 3. Two guys right in front of me bumped into each other on downhill chicane so I took evasive action doing a CX across to exit corner. 10 seconds might as well be a year. Got into chasing group of 8 or so. Happy with my positioning and cornering overall. 25th place and happy enough with a decent training session.

When I left Paul L the other fighting Irish was looking like he was having a good race!

Great to see Robbie just going for it from group 1. In my opinion absolutely the right thing to do as if you wait for the scratch in your first road race then realistically you ain't gonna win or get near it no matter how good you are.

Anyway me and Alan in group 3 and we caught everyone except Robbie and his 2 up buddie by the end of the first lap. There were 2 laps of 17 miles. Shortly into the second lap we did catch Robbie and his partner in crime (nothing to do with red lights). The bad news for me and Robbie was that the scratch group caught us about a mile later. And they jacked up the pace on the uphill drag on the old A77. Alan did real well to hang on over the crest but me and Robbie met our Waterloo just after the roundabout which is real frustrating as if we could just have managed another k over the crest of the drag etc etc

So we finished in the second group probably about 45 secs or so behind the main group.

Fantastic day, on a personal note I really enjoyed the ride out and back with big Alan just because it was great to see him out again and it was a lovely day. And we had fantastic views of Arran on our way home

Thanks for the shout Chung, I was aware, but just concentrating on the corner at the time. And a bit out my box with exertion.

    Happy days.
