Just gauging the level of interest in a free informal evening on Fri 5th of May. Easy meal ideas for all level of cyclists with free tasting menu and recipes. Fully realise that all of you have great knowledge of this but my nutritionist (aka the mrs) has volunteered and it has been of great use to me in the last 3 seasons

Amazing club runs, Renfrew bunch, sewing bee and chain gang...plenty of fun stuff to do on the bike without killing yourself in the ruff and tumble of road racing or track league, so Head up and speedy recovery, you'll be back out on the bike in no time.

    Guys
Massive thanks for your kind messages and to those of u who visited me in hospital. Don't think I was great company but your kindness and support really touched me especially at a time when I was feeling quite melancholic. Not got much recollection of crash. Remember a young fella nearly taking me out about 3 laps earlier then remember being in 3 rd last lap as had made decision to go for sprint with 2 to go. Unfortunately crashed on bend of 3rd last lap.Had no idea what caused crash. Remember guy telling me I had been out cold for 90 secs. In ambulance another rider involved in crash told me that he and another fella touched wheels and came down. I presume they took me down but if any one heard anything different please let me know. Also are the other riders ok.
I sustained a left neck femur fracture left rib fractures a head injury and a few bruises. The consultant told me that femur op went well but unfortunately chest X Ray today
Showed a very small left pleural effusion so my recovery may be longer than I first thought.
This has been my 3rd serious bike crash in as many years so time for me to pause & reflect. My wife is already trying to invoke 3 strikes and you are out rule. I have already conceded track cycling but jury still out for the road but as Prof Gunson recovered from a far more serious crash than mine feel it would be rude not to keep him company for the first part of a run at least.
Once again many thanks for your remarkable support
    Charlie

Next set of odds to be declared from LADbrokes,

Big Alan, 1-8 if he does it,
Andy G - evens to do the DA and evens to catch the boat
Colin - 2-1 to catch the boat and 10-1 to have a fully functional bike (10 is for the 10mm Allen key to reattach an FSA crank in Lochgoilhead)
Bison - 1-3 to crack some witty jokes and chew the cud in a field beside the roAD
Jan - 8-11 if he remembers to go clockwise when not on the track

    More to follow,

Doctor pronounced me dead around 3-30 this afternoon.

Should be okay for reliability though

Enjoyable ride with a tough second half to the route.

Sounds like 3 snapped chains today? GCN should be awarding the club a wattage bazooka for that

Martin Mulholand, myself and a bunch of Jets(the real racers) raced today, the course was chewing up bikes, Martin got several punctures and I destroyed another derailleur on the 2nd last last lap. I was going to have to run to the line and an other lap when I spotted the leader about to finish behind me... I took my time getting to the line and somehow managed to cross the line just behind him saving me from having to run a lap and a probably last place, I have no shame

    Well done all great day

Hope you recovered from that fall ok Andy it looked spectacular from where I was. Great run today although the lack of miles so far this year was showing with me a bit today. Strong riding at the front by Jan making up for the fact that my legs were gubbed by this point. However after sitting in for a bit managed to keep the legs spinning with the group till Barrhead.

Yes Arran was strikingly ckear today. Looked like you could just pop over and cycle round a couple of times before lunch.
Bunch was very good with the correct amount of pain applied at the appropriate points by Greg and team Archibald.

Specifity training has to represent your event , the more so as you get closer to the event, playing in a virtual world is fun but may not meet your individualised training needs so keep it in mind as you get addicted

Mmmmm, sounds like things got a bit carried away. It does tend to happen once or twice every winter, hopefully folks not put off as up till now it has been steady eddy to Largs ( with the obvious exception of the odd wee habble for the last 3km ). Yes it does get pacey on and off afterwards but the bunch has stuck together and regrouped at top of W Kilbride drag.
Just to manage expectation for our many new members, after New Year it is generally the same ride to Largs but after that it is the norm for the pace to increase and there is no stopping for punctures etc round to Kilwinning then Barrhead.

Sounds like a drill instructor required next week

Fab to be back in the world of cross. Perfect day and venue for racing. Made my 3 targets in the old guys race: finished, didn't go down, and not last. Was last of the JW contingent, so got a new target for next time. :-)

You don't need a smart turbo for zwift -  either an ant + power meter or a garmin speed / cadence sensor so that it can work out your virtual power. You also need an ant + dongle so that the laptop receives the signal form your power meter / speed / cadence sensor and preferrably an extension usb cable as dropouts can occur when not in range of the dongle. Zwift does not use the power reading from your trainer so a very basic turbo can get you going !
