james-maclaren reacted to AlanT in Sunday 31st, alternative lumpy run
Since I'm time constrained this weekend I'm planning a 30-40 mile lumpy run, taking in the Langbank station climb, the Clune, phil's folly, Elliston hill and with an option on Dalek hill, depending on how my legs are feeling by then. The minimum distance will be about 35-ish miles and 3500 ft. of up. If there any takers, I'll be at the clubhouse for around 9-ish, if not, I'll just set off from home.
    Post up if interested.

Met James in linwood and enjoyed company home by back roads. If there is anything better than unexpectedly meeting a rider in club kit heading in the same direction I don't know what it is.

james-maclaren reacted to Alan McLean in Anyone got fibre broadband to cabinet/whatever?
    Hi,

    Not exactly bike post.

Apparently our local exchangein Kilmacolm has fibre to cabinet/exchange/something so the usual suspects (BT/Talktalk etc) are offering minimum (uh huh?) download speeds of 68MB for about an extra tenner/month. Sounds as if it might actually be genuine.

Does anyone have this locally and does it work as advertised?

    Grateful for advice.

    Alan

Gerard, it looks like your forecasting is better than the Met Office, as they have updated their forecast since yesterday to match yours!

I'm up for a run so see you 9:45 behind Amaretto tomorrow.

There appears to be a weather window this Tuesday when it will not be completely overcast with incessant rain and bad visibility. So we will be meeting behind Amaretto at 0945h? Then on to Kilbirnie and as far as sensible (weather, legs or time constraints) towards Ardrossan on the B780 then return with the wind on the B714 and B707.

I cast the runestones, lit some candles under my bottom bracket and laid out an offering of cake for the great god of cycling (apocryphally for some it is not Merckx!)

james-maclaren reacted to Alan Fox in **** Bishopton Crevasse - Warning ****
Wrote off two wheels and took a tumble with a double puncture after hitting a 'crevasse' on the way into Bishopton from Westferry. Hole was filled with water and cunningly disguised on Thurs night.
Just a note to be cautious. Hole is about 150 yards from the new roundabout as you head into Bishopton. It's just after the dead end lane on the left as you're hitting a good speed (some of you might be!) on the smooth tarmac after the drag.

Sorry about late warning...had to wait to use PC at work......

Aye.....but still need to find a minute or so....per lap!

I do like a bit of analysis of these Mylaps things and the relative perfomances of who you are actually mixing it up with during the races, have definately improved fitness wise over the series so a bigger push for next season to actually be prepared for 1st race should be priority.

Really enjoying the season and can't stress how much fun it is for anyone wanting to give it a go.

Those of a more biblical bent and any common sense would have been building an ark this morning. But a bunch of us were aquaplaning up the M80 to the lovely park at Plean in the worst (ie best) conditions for a couple of years.

Top marks to Stirling BC for organisation and electronic timing despite the mudbath. They had a rather excellent food stand selling, amongst other delights,  haggis and salsa burritos which made a change from the usual disgusting snack stalls which seem to infect every venue (Strathclyde Park, I am looking at you)

The youths raced in torrential freezing rain, some in skinsuits, fingerless gloves and 5% bodyfat which was not really very sensible and there were hypothermia casualties. I did not see any Jets in the U12 but the vis was only about 50m through the sheets of rain and I may have missed someone. Only Hamish in the U16 who did well to even finish.

By the time Mike, James and I started  in the V50s the deluge had changed to sleet and coated all the smooth track with extra slippy slush. This was the most fun course of the year. Other than hurdles it was all rideable and a great mix of terrain including a 50m mud trench. I ran super low pressures on cheap clinchers and got great traction and no punctures, although crossed my fingers when hitting roots. Had some good battles and gained a few places at the hurdles which will be a surprise to anyone who has watched my comedy fails on same.

Stayed on to savour Davie suffering in the v40s and looking very good. I got a 2nd which was nice, beaten by the amazing Brendan Roe by a literal mile. No podium girls because it was too horrible to wait around. Off to Irvine to get a kicking at the Nationals next week. You're all too late to enter but it makes a nice ride down from the clubrooms.

However I could be up for a crazy cross session, as you know I regularly hit the deck anyway on cross bike, maybe Parkhill woods for 1.5 hour solid blast
    Also up for sufferfest

Seen on West of Scotland TT League Facebook page that the army have taken issue with cyclists starting & finishing at the caretakers house.

Bizarrely, the caretaker laid a tripwire in the grass at the finish! This has now been removed but watch out for snipers.

Anyway, seems they have decided to exclude use of the triangle area where we mull about waiting for our times.

They also own the land right up to the road so no standing on grass either.

Might have to review start & finish.

Not necessary the start is not on MOD property , so a simple solution is to use the entrance to the farm before the base and only call the rider to the start when it's his/her time
Also check with the land register as the land purchased for a road is usually wider than the road

    Guys/Girls,

I thought I had posted up details of an initial run. Evidently whatever I typed I didn't post, DUH!!!

Let's aim for an initial ride out on Wednesday of next week (6th May). Leaving Miller Street at say 6.45pm.

Easy roll down the track to Lochwinnoch and perhaps Kilbirnie. I'll be at the club rooms early to assist with any set up issues/questions if necessary and do a quick bike check. Just bring yourself, your bike, a helmet, an open mind and a sense of humour. Leave your egos, fears and misconceptions at home these will not be necessary.

    Cheers

Karen I think confined rides can only be canceled by a committee member as it wasn't official cancelled I rode up and two riders were there. Would have been better to have more competitors, c'est la vie...
     Cheers

Anyway the purpose of this post is to see if we had any interest in such a series of sessions
