Committee Alan McLean Posted February 10, 2016 Committee Report Share Posted February 10, 2016 Hi, Not exactly bike post. Apparently our local exchangein Kilmacolm has fibre to cabinet/exchange/something so the usual suspects (BT/Talktalk etc) are offering minimum (uh huh?) download speeds of 68MB for about an extra tenner/month. Sounds as if it might actually be genuine. Does anyone have this locally and does it work as advertised? Grateful for advice. alexb
It was installed in Houston a few months ago. Previously couldn't watch you tube or anything clip related (Houston was worse than Kilmacolm in terms of speed though). Speed increased from circa 2-2.5 to 70 bits and bobs per wee while. Does make a huge difference.
2023 Subscriptions George Posted February 10, 2016 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted February 10, 2016 Alan. I believe you only need 10 meg to stream Netflix & such so this should be quite whizzy. Ideal if you are streaming while the kids are glued to their iPads & your mrs is online, buying you Rapha stuff.
Richie Cross
Yeah, Dunlop recently got BT Infinity. Went from about 2.5Mbs to high 30's. That was with Infinity 2 for about an extra £3 a month. Infinity 1 would've been overkill for my needs. As Geo says, it's best for when my niece/nephew et al are round and a multitude of gadgets are on the go.
JaneF
Hi Alan, yes you can get faster broadband in Kilmacolm but only really worth it if you have at least one keen online gamer. We have 3 'watch again' gadgets running at the same time often and manage fine with 'standard'. We negotiated a great unlimited deal inc phones etc. Worth looking at 'leaving' your current supplier to trigger some great offers.
