Ramsay reacted to KennyS in Jets Announce New Sponsor
Johnstone Jets Youth Cycling is delighted to announce its new sponsor, Dooley's Cycles of Paisley. Dooley's will sponsor the Jets until the end of season 2018.
Dooley's Cycles, established 1951, is Renfrewshire's longest established cycling shop and has a great history of supporting local, regional and national teams and events.

Owner Ian Dooley said "I'm really looking forward to helping support the Johnstone Jets. The club is doing great work at the grass roots of cycling as well as identifying and developing talent to a national level. Our shop caters for beginners, amateur and professional cyclists, so I believe this is going to work well for Jets members and their parents."

Johnstone Jets secretary James Simpson said "This is fantastic news for the Jets. Dooley's financial support is great, but it's also great for us to have a partnership with a local bike shop where members can go for help, specialist advice and member offers"

With the closed road, the start house, the film crew, 30-odd riders, dozens of spectators, and sunshine(!) that was surely the ultimate club confined. Thanks again to Jann, Kenny, Martin and Graham for a great morning, and well done to Alan and Danny for showing the rest of us how it's done! (Though I think it bears repeating: that climb is a horrible, short, sharp effort into the red. It takes a fair bit of nerve just to get onto the line at the bottom of the hill and we all deserve a pat on the back for taking it on.)

Comparing times from different years can't tell the whole story without a record of weather conditions, too…however, it has to be worth noting that Danny's time of 1:35 and Hamish's time of 1:37 would both have been good enough to win the senior championship three times out of four between 2011-2014! Stellar rides, lads.

Given a half-decent day and another big turnout, hopefully someone can record the magical 1:20-something next year.

It's all happening on Planet Jet this week.

We are all sorry and at the same time delighted to report that Sarah Bradford is moving on from the club. For season 2016 Sarah is moving up to Team Jadan, a women's race team based in Yorskhire.

She is guesting with them this week at the An Post Rás na mBan, Ireland's premier women's road race.
This is a 5 day, six stage race covering 400km with an international field of over 100 riders.

Full race info at http://www.rasnamban.com/ including a start sheet showing some big names.

No results from this evening's opening 68km stage yet, but our spies tell us Sarah had a safe bunch finish. Keep tuned in for more!

Congratulations on the new team Sarah - but come back and see us please!

Ramsay reacted to Richard in Steve Abraham record attempt
From what I can gather from Abraham's website and Twitter, he was hoping to use a recumbent trike in a traffic-free environment (one-legged!) to limit his losses while the ankle healed. But as there haven't been any Strava updates since the 29th March, I suspect he's decided it's better to rest and recuperate.

At the time of the crash, Abraham was more of less level with Searvogel in mileage terms. However, he'd completed nearly twice as much climbing and all his miles were racked up during a British winter. Miles accumulated in the Florida sunshine are easy miles in comparison!

    Hi Paul,

As others have already said, welcome to the club.

In answer to your question, yes, keep an eye out for details of club runs that have been planned.  If the weather is good, there are usually a few different bunches going out.

The meeting place is mostly always at the clubrooms, Miller Street, Johnstone.  When you turn up, just introduce yourself and find out which group you are planning to go with.  If you haven't ridden in a bunch before, then let someone know, and they will go through a quick few pointers (it is really easy, but need to remember signals and calls).

Enjoy and I hope you get your bike fit sorted.

    Cheers,
    Ramsay

I am honoured to be nominated for the road race El capitano role and have been giving it some thought. If you wish to be part of a team effort that's great, if you want to race and do your own thing then no worries please do not feel under any pressure to join in. Here is how we might do things, happy for constructive comments and additions,

    - we each enter as many of the WOSCA series races that we can manage
    - before each race I will propose a race plan based on my observation of people's form at the time and the course, I am totally open to other suggestions,
    - whatever debate happens we will agree a race plan,
    - things happen in a race like punctures (tyres or legs!), crash etc. In this case I will use my experience when a quick call is required to change the plan.
    - where appropriate we will use team members to flog themselves for the team effort. Conversely where the rider ambition is more aligned to a different goal like finishing in the bunch then I will give best advice I can for rider to achieve that goal
    - I strongly recommend each member tries to get a few bogs bunch runs under their belt between now and March
    - I also recommend that when out with bogs bunch, gauge your effort to try and get as far into the last 15 miles as possible. This is the highest quality and best prep for road racing. ( eg take a break for 10 miles pre Kilwinning if it gets you more of the quality time)
    - Finally I strongly recommend 4 weeks of one session per week of short, very high intensity intervals starting 1st week February. I will post my recommendation after talking to my learned coach friend Billy Mac as he will be more up to date and know the type of program a lot of you guys are following.

Welcome any comments, private or public

If you've been logging your miles on Strava or Garmin, you'll get a sense of the numbers involved here. I barely managed 6,000 miles last year. Some of you will have got into five figures, I dare say. 75,000 miles in a year is mind blowing.
