Quite happy with a PB today, 20:55, joint 6th overall on a slightly windy and chilly morning. 30seconds behind Ben who won it, 24s off Iain Grant and Peter Murdoch

Finally recovered enough to write a bit!

Another fantastic day of weather in East Lothian for a great event on some hilly country roads. Mike Ferguson and I were along for another TT outing on a hilly course, and it was a cracker!

Two laps of an 11.5m course made it interesting as there were more people than usual to chase down! The course begins with a slightly uphill start, then plunges into East Saltoun with a couple of (well marshalled) junctions to negotiate and then downhill for a couple of miles, easily mid 30's and I passed my first victim at 43mph after 4 minutes. There was steady uphill and some 33mph flats with the tailwind for the next few miles, then came a challenging downhill with a couple of sharp "red flagged" corners. Not for the faint hearted!

It got interesting at the 18minute point as Stuart Balfour, a wee slip of a boy who regularly wins the 'A' races at track league, caught me just at the end of the biggest hill. He was on his second lap and flying, he went off number 5 and I went off 33. I knew he was going to well up the standings at the end, and I did the maths on how much he had taken out me and where we were at, and realised I was doing quite well. We started on a long undulating section heading back towards the finish line and I managed to power up, push myself well into the red and pass him again at speed. He caught me again on the last hill before lap 2 but I overtook him at 40 on the start/finish straight for the start of lap 2 for me.

I hit lap 2 spurred on and knew I was going to be well inside my target of 60 minutes as I started lap 2 on 29 minutes. Knowing exactly what was coming I managed to keep pushing and caught another 5 or 6 riders on the way round. Great fun!

So, I finished up getting the prize for 3rd (I was actually 4th in the end) as Gary Robson 14secs in front of me got the 1st Vet prize. Stuart Balfour ended up just about 1 minute in front of me and he won overall, impressive for a junior!

I was quite pleased with the day out, as I left with my petrol paid for in prize money and 3 minutes faster over the hour relative to everyone there that I'd competed against already this year. That said, I did have to actually lie down a couple of times mid conversation on the pavement while chatting to Jon from Glasgow Wheelers afterwards.

    Bring on the flat stuff!

    Enjoyed that tonight

First up was a scratch, was ideally placed about 4th wheel with things strung out a bit with 3 to go then the guy in second attacked with 2 to go i just followed him then went past on the bell. If only all races would fall into my lap like that! Next up another scratch, unlike the first one this time i poorly positioned at about 10th when the sprint started so had to make a big effort and managed to get 2nd, was really pleased with that considering how far i had to go. Last was the points, think i was 3rd or 4th in the first sprint, 1st in the 2nd, didnt contest the third then the final one - well it hurt alot. Couple of riders had attacked after the sprint which i thought was going to stick so i bridged too, then as soon as that happened they eased up and everything came back together only with me on the front with 4 laps to go. Tried to keep a hard pace up so no-one would attack while at the same time trying not to blow up. With 1.5 to go no-one had attacked but i could tell there were a few just waiting behind the idiot on the front leading things out so i put my last bit of energy in to at least make them work for it and surprisingly it was enough to hold them off. Points races are much more fun when things work out

Next week will try entering the Bs again see if im accepted this time.

BIG effort from a number of members to put the event on today

Particular mention to Ramsay for giving up his Friday morning and Saturday afternoon to carry out risk assessments, as well as Big Al who was out early doors this morning to drive round the Medium route to carry out the re-assessment

Thanks also to AlanT, Greig, Jann for all their help with the sign-on

The Milligans at Lochbarr were their usual accommodating selves with some fine catering which takes a lot of pressure of the club

It was a pleasure to have Dot Smith along to see all the riders off and also fantastic to hear how Dot still takes an interest in the club as a whole

It was great to see so many faces from different clubs supporting the event, mostly local but others from afar as Perthshire and Edinburgh

Final figures on monies raised will be advised as soon as we can figure out how much we have to pay BC for insurance and admin fees (a necessary evil for Open Reliabilities in this day and age)

Such a character and it was only when he was gone did I realise how big a part he played in so many other peoples' lives outside the club and how little I knew of him off the bike
