Phil Malcolm
I had a thought about doing the Marmotte week in the Alps. A 160km Sportive one saturday, 45KM raod race up and down Alpe D'Huez on the Wednesday, La Marmotte on the Saturday and the Alpe D'Huez hillclimb on the Sunday. Did it a few years ago and it was a fantastic week. Early June I think.
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted June 1, 2012 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted June 1, 2012 Guys For me it has to be May/June. I would also prefer an 'event'. I like the sound of both the suggestions from Billy and Phil. Ease of travel from Glasgow, cost and logistics would be considerations as well. 2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted June 1, 2012 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted June 1, 2012 Just looking at the Marmotte. This is early July. Is it something else that you had in mind Phil? Seem to recall a cycling week based at Bourg...

Phil Malcolm
It was that week I was looking at. Shamefully, they seem to have moved it back a couple of weeks since I last did it in 2008. Shameful. we did this in the Pyrenees that was well worth the trip too http://www.lapyreneenne.a3w.fr/ But that looks to be 1st of July too. Paul C
I like the sound of the Duva. Hotel looks good too. It is geared up for cyclists like the Beau Soleil in Italy and this year it was EUR 44 half board sharing a room.
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted June 14, 2012 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted June 14, 2012 Just had a good look at this. Just the ticket. Two sportives on consecutive days (Sat Sunday) mid April. I'm up for this:-)
Guest
Guys, There is brief mention of a Majorca sportive at the end of April in this week's Cycling. Not sure if it is the one above. From what I garnered in glancing at it, it is 300km right round the island. Mega hilly start but flatter towards the end. Duva looks good. Time to start sweet talking the wife. Paul C
Does this mean we will have to organise a JW 'Majorca 2013' jersey!!?
man5e
I'd be interested in the Majorca option and April timewise is fine for me. Brilliant roads and cycling friendly there at the best of times
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted June 15, 2012 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted June 15, 2012 Well if you're going I'm definitely going as well. Long time no see. Great motivation to get the miles in.
2023 Subscriptions iain couttie Posted June 16, 2012 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted June 16, 2012 have a look at "mallorca 312" this is held at the end of april from what i can see, it looks a bit more of a challange at 312 km for the main bunch and 167 for the 30 milers! the rout is just around the island the first half being hilly and the second flat. It was advertised in one of the bike hire shops when i was over a few weeks ago. iain
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted June 16, 2012 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted June 16, 2012 Hi All Here's one possible itinerary: Fly out Friday; Duva Sportive 135km Sat; Duva Sportive 85 (or whatever)km Sunday; Monday 312km Tour of the Island Tuesday Home. :
Guest
I don't think it's just my bike that would be coming home in a box if we did all three!
2023 Subscriptions Ramsay Posted June 16, 2012 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted June 16, 2012 Might be keen on this. Elaine and I stayed at the Duva Hotel last years and I have done the route of the ride, although I went the other direction. If my memory serves me right, doing it that way means there is a 10mile climb!! It is certainly a great Island for biking, with some cracking climbs. I'll keep an eye on the posts, as it really is far too early to be seriously thinking about next April!

Paul C
Looking at the website it seems that the Majorca 312 is a week later than the Duva so not possible to do all three unless we just did the route of the 312 ourselves!

Mark O
Looking good gentlemen. I'd be up for this and it would lend some impetus to the winter training again. I think I'd like to be able to consider something along the same lines as italy with a couple of "aclimatisation" days and perhaps a day with the feet up afterwards. Obviously this depends on everyone's holidays, finances, availability of rooms, flights etc. M
Colin McPhee
Looks good if doing 312 ourselves I am on holiday from 29th March - 12th April 2013 So either week ok
2023 Subscriptions martin Posted August 19, 2012 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted August 19, 2012 Think I could be up for this. Really enjoyed riding the Mallorcan roads this summer - great climbs and even better descents. This route from a map I got from the Pollensa bike shop looks close to the sportif route -
