James reacted to thejanullrichdietplan in Chain gang
Legs totally empty tonight, ice cream for lunch not suitable fuel for exercise. Who would have thought?
Then the ignominy of seeing Ian win a sprint. Which is enough to win the July round of the world champs by a point!

Finish: Ian A, Paul, me, James (i think?)

One of the finest moments. The day Darryl went down on Arran (sorry D). Alex and I encountered a brand new breed to us. Cockerpoos! Alex went out and got one the very next day. For anyone who follows his Instagram see many pics of Ziggy. Anyway my point is Alex didn’t feck about. He went out there and grabbed life by the baws. May he long be an example to us all!
so so sad tonight

Very very sad. There isn't much more I can say that hasn't been said already. Life really sucks at times when someone so young sadly passes and leaves a young family. However, Alex really was a solid friend, someone you depend on to really stick the boot in, someone that would take great risks on the descents.......... remembering the most recent visit into the bushes on the Loch Tom Rd descent and someone who knew how to party off the bike.
The big chap will be sadly missed by all, such was his character

Warm and windy; seven riders. Not an easy night at all. Times in the order they set off:
Dave C - 20:30 (PD)
Joseph - 20:23
Kat - 18:57 (PD)
Alan - 18:29 (PD)
Scott - 17:38
Gerard - 17:24 (PD)
James - 17:48 (PD)
I forgot to ask if there were any PBs - sorry. Let us know if you managed one. Well done, folks.
PS James gave me £9 from last week's confined, so I've got £24 to transfer to the club account.

James reacted to Gerard Deeley in Sunday 3rd June Hilly Local Ride
A fantastic day out in really fine weather for a nice route down Largs and over Fairlie Moor and back to Largs, then home via Brisbane Glen. A quick visit to Amaretto was most enjoyable. Seemed to be climbing okay today, that will be a one off then.

James reacted to Mark O in Southport Standard Tri 20th May 2018
Race report on this event, seeing as I'm still a paid up member and race in club colours.
Flat course, fairly light winds off the sea, warm and sunny.......getting warmer as the morning progressed. Usual friendly atmosphere and well organised. First tri of the season for me and first since last summer's 70.3 effort. Target time around 2hrs 30 mins based on my training efforts.
Swim was solid and pretty much as expected albeit marginally slower than pool times. Chalking that down to it being my first open water swim of the year. Not much of a scrum in the water which was good . I didn't feel i got into a good rythmn but a 26.26 swim was ok and was well placed in age group.
T1 was a disaster time wise. Wet suit refused to come off. Room to improve here and gain back 2 mins lost.
Bike stage was good. There and back again course. Bit of a head wind but not overly so. 1:08:13 . Could have gone harder but know the run is comparatively my weakest event and I need to judge my effort to avoid blowing. Got off bike feeling reasonably fresh and had made up ground on those who passed me in T1.
T2 - better than T1, could get smoother but generally happy with this.
Run - hot kind of covers it. Been regularly doing 45 min 10ks when fresh so anything close to this would be pleasing. Did 48:17. Slightly slower than I hoped for but the heat doesn' t agree with me. No cramp on the run, which is a first but the last 2k seemed to take an age.
After entering this event I realised it was the English championship. Accordingly there were some proper athletes racing. The winning time was around 1:58:38. My age group winner posted 2:02:25. I was breathing down his neck at 2:28:53. That put me in 20th for my age group and 146th overall in a field of 400. Hard to tell the quality of a field but I reckon a gave a reasonable showing. Pleased with a 12 minute improvement on my last standard tri and beating my target time.
Looking at my splits I'm giving away easily 8 mins to my nearest time placing rivals on the run - 14 places. T1 cost me a couple of mins and 10 places.
Lessons - get wet suit legs trimmed and practice wriggling out of it more. No doubt there are a few minutes to be gained in the swim and on the bike. Incidentally, I had gained 25 places over the 25miles. Hydration still not perfect and need to work on this. However to really move up the placings a 40-45min 10k has to be the targeted improvement between now and Allerthrope in August. My target was to get close to 2:30 . Target achieved. New target now set at 2:20
Onwards and upwards

James reacted to George in CTT National 25, 27th May
Kenny,
Not disputing it being easier for timekeepers & more sheltered for them. I’m also not disputing that it’s the riders responsibility to ride safely, however, if someone is on for a good time or PB they are going to hammer it into the roundabout.
My face is testament to the fact that some riders, in the heat of the moment, put (a wee bit) more speed over safety.

Gents is there any desire to get Jerseys made up for our Marmotte trip? I can check out costs and get input on colours but the French Flag is a must. Let me know and if there is interest I can check it out. Any idea where you got the Nova Coli jerseys?

thought i'd cheer myself up since it's Monday morning, and I hate Mondays....
the Bealach Na Ba is 9.1km @ average 7%
including only the specified Climbs, Tourmalet 18k @ 7.4%, Ancizan [email protected]%, Aspin 12k@ 6 %, Tourmalet fae the other side 17k@ 7.5% and Ardiden 14.7k@ 7%, we will undertake 78.7km of climbing at average 6.48%... basically give or take half a percent, it'll be like climbing the Bealach Na Ba 8.6 times one after the other ..
anyone got a training plan

James reacted to AlanT in Angie Macdonald 25, 13th May
Conditions were light rain, cool with almost no wind. Out leg was good, better than last year but died badly at 18 miles, losing minutes after that. 1.11.41 represents my worst time ever on any course, but you get the results based on your level of training. Bloody freezing after the finish, really glad of those bacon rolls.
Just as well I wasn’t expecting much today, because that’s what I got.

Good night apart from the puncture at Gryffe. Totally wrong time going down that hill at fair rate of knots. To add to my misery my gas canister connection burst. Ended up having to call my wife to pick me up.... Not good!!!!....
