Great bunch today!  We met Andy at the bottom of the Bowfield and up we headed towards Lugton at a nice pace, even up the hill!  I was wary incase anyone was getting dropped on the Bowfield but we al stayed together really well!  Little did I know we were already on the receiving end of a nice wee tailwind which as you'd expect turned into a ridiculous, cold-cutting-right-through-you headwind when we turned at Torranyard.
We came out at Cunninghamhead and headed towards Stewarton, before a slight diversion from the planned route to quieter roads, ending at the A77 side of the Clunch Road.  We headed up towards the wind farm into that horrible headwind, and I think it's safe to say we were all very glad the wind farm's visitor centre was open for business (but only one roll left - well done Glen getting in early!)
After the cafe stop, we descended into Eaglesham before heading along the Humble Road to Newton Mearns and onto Barrhead where most of us split.  James and I headed up Lochlibo Road passed the Dalek Brae to climb the Fereneze Road, dropping back down into Johnstone via Auchenlodment.
Great morning, slightly shorter route than planned, but plenty climbing!   Feeling it in the legs already lol

Myself and James had the Alan bike box, I was really happy with it. The last box I had was a real struggle getting a 58cm frame in, but this box had no issues.
it is actually cheaper buying through sigma sports than buying direct.

just noticed i got a KOM after all the best bit is that Wout van Aert, Dimitri Claeys, Jaspar Stuyven, Greg van Avermaet and Jelle Wallays were joint KOM holders so they will all have received the message.

Well it is now the end of the summer and unfortunately there was no more to come from me except a lighter wallet!

Anyway congratulations to Richard finishing on the podium in 3rd overall, behind only Douglas Watson and Alexander Macrae. Great effort!

Good summary Billy. Haven’t got much to add to this except that I think we all underestimated how difficult the event would be.
I would also like to thank those that took on the lion's share of organising and driving, and to Billy's house for hosting the BBQ, and Paul especially for cooking the food.
For our wee house I'd like to thank George for organising such nice accomodation - once we'd worked out how to get there it really was a wonderful location. Similarly, I'd like to thank Ginty and Charlie for the car hire and the driving. Both did a sterling job, even when tired and stressed. Thanks!
Finally, the two Ia(i)ns cooked for our house. The food was great and the craic even better. Who can forget the two drunks shouting at each other about the existence/non-existence of God?
All in all I had a splendid time. Would love to go back to the same place and ride for a week, ticking off the iconic climbs in a way compatible with drinking wine and fine dining!

Here is the list - A lot of names from other clubs that i dont recognise, so i dont know what the competition is like. The gales are missing a few of their fast guys from last year so there will probably be a new winner this year.

Thanks for suggestion but have decided to cancel. Only have 46 entrants thus far and some travelling far so need to give them sufficient notice of cancellation. Also trying to get helpers is a nightmare but big thanks to all who contacted me even if was to say couldn’t make it

All of this is true but I think there was a consensus about the change of route. Sometimes you have to be flexible according to conditions. Turned out to be a good choice with fast roads, a bit of a wheel about,  coffee stop, hills...and beer

The weather will hopefully get better & improve ...... I have faith :-)
Worst comes to worst, we can do what we did 4 years ago when watching the Commonwealth Games road race of the same route & the weather was awful on the day as well.
We camped ourselves in a pub/cafe on Gibson Street, put the BBC live broadcast on the iPhone, when the peloton gets near, we all rushed out to cheers them on, once they’ve past, dive back inside etc. repeat thereafter :-) ....... that worked quite well & we even rode the circuit afterwards :-)
    Cheers

Great day for time trialling. Not a lot of wind, warm, without being hot. Clocked a 62:54, which is a season's best, still over a minute outside my pb, but happy enough, given the level of training I've been doing.
Only downside was one of my elbow pads fell off 20 minutes before the start, and then my Garmin died, so I had to do the run with no telemetry. Given the way my legs are feeling now, I'll take it as an improved performance level.

    Guys,
managed to get the car hire booking changed....we have ditched the 9 seater Minibus and now have 2 x medium sized 5 seater cars.. the overall cost has only risen marginally, but now we have an extra person, so if Iain Couttie and Michael can just pay the same as the rest of us £34, it will leave an excess of £20, which I will stick into the kitty once we get there
Billy will be driving the other car.....
    Cheers

Sincerely hope it doesn’t rain in the Pyrenees....
Us tough guys, James, Charlie, Colin (clad only in s/s Jersey & shorts, accompanied by the ubiquitous Bison, did the full 87 miles although it did prove tough with the weather &, frankly, shocking roads.
Hit a pothole so hard that my bottle flew out, never to be see again. Spotted two more by the roadside that had probably also been orphaned. Then had a high speed blow out when I hit a rock while descending.
    Ayrshire Council, sort it out!
Special mention to The Blueberry Cafe for providing towels-what a nice touch.
