Details are in the first post - basically will be about £17 (if we have more than 16 riders it will be a little less) each for the track time and if you need to hire a bike then it will be an additional £11.10, and if you need shoes with Look Keo cleats another £4.80.

Other than that just bring your cycling kit, a helmet and some water. I'd also recommend to wear cycling gloves - wooden velodromes are pretty much why cycling mitts were invented - and some people (like me)  wear 2 layers on top, like a baselayer under their cycling jersey. But this isnt essential.

Gerard Deeley reacted to GrahamF in JWCC Confined Events 2016 - Provisional
Attached is a provisional calendar for Confined Events for the coming year.

As you will see I have also included for reference a number of open events and other club activities to help see how they all sit together.

I have included the published date for the Scottish National 10 and 25 TTs, and included two confined events at those distances before the respective National event.

Also, I've not specified a location for the confined 25s yet, and suggest that potential competitors agree amongst themselves where they would like it to be.

Good day out with the Wheelers, sorry about missing the café stop in Balloch, but I was meeting family to go ten pin bowling for my brother's 40th birthday in Edinburgh, which I won (just had to mention it!).

Good day to be out, even with the headwind, which was really only in our faces on the descent after Sinclair St. and the return to the bridge. We had a nice steady pull from the bridge, through to the Red smiddy, chasing down a bunch from Paisley Velo, but just as we caught them, they splintered. The 4 remaining riders had a good pull along the Georgetown with the wind at our backs.
55 miles on the clock for me, and a cracking day out.

Well, that was a good bunch with a good run today!

A group of 11 with a mix of Jets - Charlie, Matty & Hamish, along with the senior citizens of AlanT, Darryl, Emma, PaulC, Paul Levy, Robbie, Robbo & myself, departed from the clubroom this morning.

Picked up a few more bodies - Campbell H, Gerard, Jess & Lusia (2 more Jets) at the Bridge, at the same time Darryl & Paul split from us to do a shorter route as they were time constrain. It was good to catch up though even though it was a short spell.

The remaining 13 headed round the planned route with the Jets putting in some strong shifts at the front, sometimes too strong :-)
Obviously, once we got to Sinclair Street, we couldn't hold them back. They made an early attack but thankfully Robbie stayed with them, if only to make sure they're all ok :-)
A regroup at the car park at the top followed by what should have been a fast decent was slowed by the constant strong head wind.
A wee mechanical for Hamish on the Lochside road meant for once he was at the back :-) But not for long.

Teas & coffee in Ballochs Corrie Cafe for everyone (except for Gerard & Robbo who skipped it as they had to be back before 12.30 & Matty, who had a lift from his mum as she waited for him in Balloch)

Everyone crossed the bridge except for me as I stayed Northside to head home, I hope everyone got home safely despite the wind!

All in, a good day on the bike, at least it stayed dry if a bit dull. But I cannas ask for more.
Thanks for the wheels & company today, Jets & Wheelers!

Definitely a good start to the year, more of the same please :-)

    Over & out

    Cheers

    My .......... That's was wet, windy & cold :-/

Thanks to Gerard for the company round the shorten route, missing out the Moscow loop - thankfully!

Without a cafe stop since none was open, but Gerard did not disappoint. At Stewarton, he whipped out 2 china cup from his back pocket & poured me a cup of "mulled wine" from his flask :-) Fantastic, just the very thing to warm ourselves up!
First time I've ever had them and certainly the less expected time to try it :-) thanks you!

Just about dried myself up for (hopefully) a much dryer run tomorrow!

P.S I did not (understandably so) see any other cyclist out today at all :-0 they must have better weather forecast app than me :-)

    Cheers

I will still be out, but if nobody in this forum is going to turn up (rules #5 & #9) then I notice that there is a meetup in Renfrew.  It will be bad form to commit to another over this but if you are going to make it do post a confirmation.  Otherwise I may have to opt into the Renfrew bunch.

    Thanks Kenny,
I've come across this piece on the club site written by Joe Brunetti (another name we remember with a trophy!):

"There was one fatal accident in the Club when Frank Lauder was killed.  He had just started a 10-mile time trial at the Bird in Hand Hotel, when he collided with a milk lorry which had come out of the road from the quarry.  This happened in 1934."

The rest of the article gives an insight into the club around that time and make a good read, here is a link to it:

There appears to be a weather window this Tuesday when it will not be completely overcast with incessant rain and bad visibility. So we will be meeting behind Amaretto at 0945h? Then on to Kilbirnie and as far as sensible (weather, legs or time constraints) towards Ardrossan on the B780 then return with the wind on the B714 and B707.

I cast the runestones, lit some candles under my bottom bracket and laid out an offering of cake for the great god of cycling (apocryphally for some it is not Merckx!)

well said Chung, was indeed a good day out and brilliant to see a real mixed bag of cyclists and ages. Agree Gerard wins the most prepared cyclist cook award, but Iain Cowdens liquid refreshment came a close second.

Hopefully we can maybe arrange a spring drum up, as agree a good idea to have more than one per year. Thanks again to Alan McBride for posting this up

Great day and particularly happy that my sausages on the fire. Top marks to Gérard for best kit and accessories (chung will probably be surfing the Web for a full carbon set of rapha accessories as we speak 😉) drum up is an event you must experience, stories from old racers, good crack and hospitality, and best of all sausages by a bon fire. Oh and a dram or two 😉

Well, that was a fantastic day on the bike indeed!

Iain Cowden, Ronnie Chard & myself arrived in Gourock with loads of time to spare, so a wee visit to "The Continental" was called for for some coffee & hot chocolate.
9.15am sitting in a cafe while out on the bike was definitely a new one for me. :-)

The 10am ferry to Dunoon had bikes outnumber cars on board was a real sight!

Most of us went over the Ardentinnay climb (nasty) while the "chief drum-up technical team" went straight to the site for some serious fire wood chopping for us to enjoy as soon as we arrived! Big thanks to Linda, Geoff Smith, Iain Lochrane & others for doing that!

10 Wheelers had various degree of drum up "preperations", from only just a couple of gels?????? to bags of sausage & whiskey etc. but Gerard wins it hands down with a coffee pot, gas stove dangling from his bike & SAUCES for the sausages. Man, I thought I was prepared, but he is a professional Chef after all :-)

Seeing Alan McBride & Iain67 "passionately & expertly" going about first heating up & then grilling their sausages was a real treat, I even got to taste some too, magic! Thanks & Well done, guys!

It was even better than last year in terms of food & weather, I think we should do this more often :-)

The cycle back to the ferry was punctured by Alan's second mechanical of the day, but we still made it in time for the 2pm ferry back to the mainland. By the time I got home with Iain Cowden, I had 148km on the clock, tired & smelling like a smoked sausage :-) but really happy to spent the day with my fellow cyclist - young & old doing things more than just cycling. It was a great experience (I believe) unique to Scotland! And long it may continue!

Thanks again to Linda & Geoff Smith of Velo Preda & Iain Lochrane for the invite & organisation of the drum up!

    Cheers
