Roberto reacted to AlanT in Restricted Gear 10 TT 12th March
Yes, it's the opening TT of the confined events series. This is the first trophy of the season up for grabs to the fastest rider on the day, as well as early season TT league points.
2 laps of a hilly route with some challenging turns and a terrific descent. An excellent introduction to time trialling for beginners, as well as a decent warm up for the more experienced.
As normal, there will be a £3 entry fee, payable on the day, the proceeds going towards the costs of the awards at the end of the season.
The course:
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/651582320
Meet at the start at 09:45 ready for first rider off at 10:00. The start is at the house on the Gateside road, just opposite the right turn that leads to Tandleview stables.
Volunteers required for timekeeping and holding.
I will bring some cable ties.
This event is apparently attracting some high level interest across the world.

For anyone not sure of where the start is. The place on the right of this photo says boarding kennels.

I thought it was restrictive gear as in bib shorts that were too tight, neck braces and leather vests!!

Roberto reacted to Gummers in Icebreaker 19th February 2017
Felt positively spring like this morning at Eglinton Park. It was even warm enough to ride without overshoes for the first time this year. That was the end of any pleasantness for the morning.
The first half felt like hard going into a headwind. After the turn the tailwind didn't seem to help much as my legs were starting to feel the pain. Came in with a time of 24'27" - TT is definitely not my thing!

Roberto reacted to Gerard Deeley in Reliability run 1- Tour of Renfrewshire
Warm company all of the way but cold feet to finish in the 0900h bunch going at a nice pace. Reliability fail with a puncture on the Clune that would have been worse if Darryl had not come back with his pump as I did not have mine. Ever the gentleman as these are the small gestures that make the club great.

Roberto reacted to chung in Reliability run 1- Tour of Renfrewshire
Well, that's was a true Reliability run indeed!
Chris's chain drop on the lower slopes of the Clune, we got it back on only for it to bloody snapped :-/
A 10 speed quick-link is just not ideal for a 9 speed chain indeed (afraid that's all I had) eventually got it on but the wider chain meant every time the link passed the rear Mech jockey wheels, it would slip & jump due to the stiff quick-link.
I was determined that he would not take the train home so decided the best course of action was to cut the ride short & accompany him back to Renfrew via the back roads of Langbank & Bishopton & take it gingerly.
Then I had a bloody a puncture myself
Made my way back to the club room after leaving Chris at Red Smiddy, hope you got home without much bother Chris. I got back just in time to see Martin slam the shutter down, so no soup, scone or cake for me, brilliant!
Still it was a good ride & got home with 95km on my Garmin & not too a filthy hand despite all the mechanical!
I cannae wait for the summer to come soon enough!
P.S Paul, sorry hands were rather full when you called!
Cheers

Small bunch of 6, comprising Darryl, Eve, Alan Mac, 'mad dog' Mulholland, Gerard and myself left at 09:00. Graham turned up just as we rolled off, but snapped his chain in an effort to stay with the furious pace set by mad dog. We stormed up on a Paisley Velo bunch on the .Westferry, and as we blew through the bunch on the Clune, Gerard punctured. Regrouping at the top we carried on over the wall. Once over, it was a steady pace round to Phil's foll, where mad dog paid the price of his earlier efforts. The rest of us carried round and back to the clubhouse, where there was tea and coffee. Good day to be be out, even when it was raining.

Loads of JWCC have done this one. Its a good route, but very busy.
Worth a club outing some day as the roads are empty normally.

Good wee bonus run for me today as was time constrained on Saturday well done Alan on those 4000 + feet

Roberto reacted to AlanT in 5 Hills, Sunday 8th jan
I made that 46 miles and 4016 feet of climbing. Robert and I set out from Crosslee, picked up Colin at Langbank and tackled the first of the climbs, some of us quicker than others. I took on the Laterne Rouge role to let the youngsters gallop on ahead. Didn't have a lot of choice there as my legs were still tired from yesterday. Eventually got dropped just at Johns Hill, regrouped, briefly at the Howwood turn, then solo' round the rest of the route. Saw the 30 milers heading toward Bowfield as I was heading toward Lochlibo Road.
Conditions were ok, a bit damp and misty on the top of the hills, but not really cold.
Good day to be out.

Looking at a sedately paced 40-ish miler to recover from Saturday's track fun. 5 decent climbs in about 40 miles with around 4000 feet of up.
Langbank Station climb, Clune, Johns Hill, Elliston climb and Dalek hill. Bonus climb for the Kilbarchan to Bridge of Weir road.
No cafe stops planned, but could slip one in at BOW.
Bale out option at Lochwinnoch.
Leaving Crosslea around 10.
Post up if interested.

Roberto reacted to PaulL in Bealach na BÃ 2016 - July 30th
What a great trip with Ian Mcginty, Iain Carvill, Alan McBride, Mark(Iain's Pal) and David C weather was miserable but the company was most excellent. Everyone got over the Mighty Bealach Na Ba... a few different routes taken but we all ended up in The Applecross Inn for some beverages and late night shenanigans. When can we go back!
Not sure what time I got up the Climb in, but Alan was seen to ride up the lower slopes like Demon... looking forward to seeing his time!

Roberto reacted to GrahamF in Sunday 31st July - Arran
Hi Karen, I'd not realized it was the same weekend as Bealach na BÃ . I've been put off that trip by the midges and all the driving, but if it causes a conflict for others we could look at alternative dates for this one.

Roberto reacted to GrahamF in Sunday 31st July - Arran
I'm planning ahead a bit, but am keen to go and enjoy the delights of Arran before the end of the season.
It will be a full day out, getting the 09:45 ferry out and the 16:40 back. Both these link to trains for anyone who doesn't want to cycle both ways and it gives us 6 hrs on the island which should be enough to do the 55 miles and have a lunch stop. If we were to miss the 16:40 return ferry there is a contingency 19:40 ferry which is also met by a train so there's not much chance of being stranded!
Miller Street to the ferry is 26 miles, so that makes 107 miles in total for anyone choosing to do the whole route.
Meeting at Miller St. at 07:30 should give us time to get the ferry, with an expected return time about 19:30 if cycling back.
The ferry train leaves Johnstone at 08:54, returning at 18:28, so a bit more time in bed for anyone looking to save their energy for the island.
Anyone like to join in, either for the full version or just the island?
Note:- This trip should not be confused with any DA trips, it will not be a Team Time Trial, but there will be time to enjoy the views and the hospitality on offer on the island, as well as stopping for a few minor mechanicals should they occur!

Roberto reacted to chung in Sunday 10th July - Duke's & Loch Katrine ....
Hi all,
I'm thinking a wee jaunt for a lap of Loch Katrine this Sunday considering I'll be off the bike for a few Sundays, so fancy a longer one before that.
Obviously this is weather dependant & so far weather forecast for Sunday is O.K, but I'll post up alternative if it gets poor
Planning a relatively early start ....... say 8.45am at the bridge or 8am at the clubroom.
Appreciate if you can post up if coming out to play :-)
Anyway, will decide final route near the time & all/any company welcome!
Cheers

Roberto reacted to KennyS in Law Wheelers/Ben Smith 25 (sunday 29th)
Robbo, Wouldn't worry too much about it, unless the time doesn't suit you or you're offended by the following :-)
When setting the field some organisers will look at the top 10 - 20 riders. That's what I do for the Sam Dooley
In a field of 100 the top ten will be set off at ten minute intervals with the fastest at the end. The next 10 are then set off at the 5minutes in between. Everyone else is then thrown in wherever

Roberto reacted to alexb in Website Update - Bunch Ride Routes
Last year's survey identified that we would like maps of the Bunch Rides to be avaialable on the website (and also linked to the Bunch) to help new members and those like me with no sense of direction to have a vague idea where the ride goes, the length and climbing profile.
I know from the main bunch we have some classic rides we repeat frequently (and not just the trips to the Bagel Basket) and presume its the same for the other Bunches.
Can I ask members that are recording their rides on their Garmin, etc to save the ride as a route and message this to me. It will take time, but eventually we'll have a great selection of great route maps on the web to link to bunch ride posts.
I hope this makes sense. If there are any techy issues please post and I'm sure some of the more computer literate members can advise (I'm thinking of Jan and Chung!).
Thanks for your help.
