Headsets, hubs and bike building/restoration in 6 easy technicolour installments by Chung - 'nuff said.
In all seriousness, you could start at the front end and simply work your way along the bike covering all elements as you go, from setting up bars and stems, right down to the likes of replacing brake pads, cable routing and redoing bar tape. I think it would be fair to assume that for some this might seem unnecessary but to others it might be a case of answering questions they are too afraid to ask or in some cases don't even know to ask. As a suggestion, a donor bike could be used and completely stripped and rebuilt. I have a 'retired' manky steel frame (quill stem for the purists) with some parts still attached which I'd be happy to donate as a start. There might even be obsolete bikes in the container that could be used to let people get hands on with the freedom of getting it wrong. Monkey see/monkey do style seminars with plenty of practice and tips along the way perhaps?

Is there any interest in this for Sunday? I have noticed it's clashing with an extended club run in the run up to Flanders, so I'm happy to move to Saturday if that's going to suit people better. It would also mean that I can ride as well.
i need an indication of numbers no later than Thursday night. If there are no takers, that means I get to hold onto the trophy for another year.......

Hip hip hooray I am finally on the website.  A very welcoming club so I need to say a huge thank you to Carole, Graeme , Gerrard, Jane and Alan for taking me under their wing.  Also the boys last Sunday who looked after me when I decided to fly instead of pedal..I am very grateful thank you.  Apologies to Charlie he had to put up with the girls chat about our designer heels on Sunday instead of bike chat.  At rugby this Sunday with my beautiful boys have a fantastic day tomorrow.  L

Five of us met at the Clubroom this morning - Alex, John, Martin, Scott & myself set off optimistically looking for the sun :-)
Instead we got a constant drizzle throughout, but no matter, the company & the spirit made up for it!
Quick cafe stop in Kilmalcolm, where we bumped into Alan & Ross who was out earlier & already enjoying a big breakfast as we sat down!
After that we all headed home nice & early to earn extra brownie points since it seems like we’ve all been spending a small fortune on new bikes recently :-)
Kudos to Martin for grinding up those steep hills with a massive 39-18 gear on his hastily build up steel is real winter bike, big up!
Thanks again for the company & wheels chaps!
Hope to see youse on Friday at Amaretto!
    Cheers

Nice ride today with Gerard & Chung. 2 cafe stops no less. Only blot was a whining noise coming from Chung”s bottom bracket. Now if was me would have fully accepted that Total lack of maintenance & my fault but when it’s the guru of bike maintenance the Mary Berry of bike perfection well does that not call for a full stewards enquiry and may I suggest might even qualify for a hammock award

    Hi All,
It's that time of the year again, folks - yes, the much anticipated Drum-up on the shores of Loch Eck, where everyone pretends to be a contender on master chef, but in reality, there is only ONE - our own Gerard D
I have been asked by a few as to if/when this is on!
Obviously it's Geoff & Linda Smith & Iain Lochrane's gig, so I need to find out the details first before confirming. But I would imagine it'll be the coming next Sundays before November ........
As soon as I have confirmation, I will post up to let youse know & you can send of any dietary request to Gerard so he can be well "prepared" .................. I heard lobsters are great for BBQ
    Cheers

JaneF reacted to chung in Gonnae let me play with your WHEELS :-)
    Hi All,
Some of you might know that I’m a bit “keen” when it comes to working on my bike(s), some might even say it’s an illness :-) Acquiring bike specific tools is also a sick obsession of mine.
Recently my Campag Neutron wheels needed a bit of TLC as it was feeling rough when spinning, the hub bearings definitely need servicing, so I thought why not do it myself & in the process got a bit “carried away” in buying some fancy tools to do jobs properly - punch, bearing extractor, hub bearing press tools etc.

Needless to say, it made the job(s) of servicing/replacing my Campag cup/cone bearings hubs a lot, lot easier, it would also work well on seal bearings hub too, it’s almost a pleasure to do it now rather than being a PITA job.
Now I have these tools which will hopefully last me a life time & it would be a shame not to get it use more often :-)
Therefore, if any club members of the Joanins have wheels that needs work on the hub bearing, then give me a buzz & we can see what I can do.
Obviously this is just my desperate attempt to get the chance to mess about with my new tools, NO charges involve, you just pay for any parts needed & we can do the job together if you fancy giving it a go. I’m telling you, taking a hammer to your lovely carbon wheels hub certainly does raise your heart rate to a new level :-) I think it’s an experience every cyclist should have!
Also, some of the tools I have are Campagnolo wheels specific with the cup/cone, ball bearing types, so for those of youse with higher end Campag wheels i.e Zonda, Eurus, Shamal, Bora etc & Fulcrum equivalent. Then I have these tools especially if you want to extract any damage cups that need replacing that are pressed solidly into the hubs.

The need to ride our winter bike is upon us & it would make sense/good practice to examining your summer wheels to see if it needs some TLC before storage or winter ones so to face the harsh road conditions of winter.
    Cheers
    Chung
