The second reliability run on 14th Feb will be hosted by RCCK, and it's 76 km round the Big Foot Hills route in Watopia. Follow D.Hodders (RCCK) to receive an invitation if you haven't already got one.

I've created the first of the experimental reliability rides for Sunday 7th Feb. It's 65 km, roughly the same distance as the normal reliability ride #1 Tour of Renfrewshire, but without the snow, ice and wind.
The idea is for three groups of riders, cruising at 2, 2.5 and 3 W/KG respectively (maybe a bit higher on the uphill bits), leaving 15 minutes apart (09:15. 09:30 and 09:45), and finishing together. This is an experimental format, so I will probably have to tweak it for the following week.
I've invited every club member who's following me on Zwift (and a couple of special guests), so if you want to take part, and you're not following me, you need to do that so that I can extend the invitation.
Please post up to indicate which group you intend to ride with. If there's no-one from one of the groups, we'll skip that slot.
I intend to ride with the middle group at 2.5 W/KG, rolling out at 09:30.
I have no idea how this is going to work, so think of the fun we can have, finding out together.

I’ve had an edge 1000 for a few years, mainly because I needed the bigger screen to see the numbers. There’s no point in having a computer that displays your output in real time if you can’t bloody see it. 🤔

For all the non zwifters out there, if you’re not on Zwift, you won’t be able to take part. Sorry, but there it is. For the zwifters, you need to follow me (Alan Thomson JWCC) on Zwift to get the invitation. I’ll set it up 7 days ahead of the event.

Since we’re unlikely to get out for the February reliability runs, even if the weather is ok, I’ve put a bit of thought into how we could do these on Zwift.
I’m thinking 4 runs on successive Sundays in February, 65, 80, 95 and 110km, 3 groups, cruising at 2, 2.5 and 3 W/kg, setting off 15 minutes apart. No cafe stops, bring your own post run refreshments.
Happy to take on board adjustments to the format.

    Anyone interested?

AlanT reacted to EricL in Covid19 Update - January 2021
I expect that the majority of JWCC membership will already be fully aware of the latest Scottish Government lockdown guidance and restrictions associated with life at Tier 4. In simple terms - stay at home except for essential purposes, Police Scotland is legally enforcing the measures, for the weeks (months?) ahead.
Exercise is permitted in certain circumstances and close to your local area. British Cycling and Scottish Cycling have confirmed their positions on this and I have below lifted extracts from their web pages to assist any of our membership who choose to venture outside on their bikes at this time.
It remains the case that it is not possible for JWCC to safely run any events or organise group riding while there are such restrictions in place.
Stay local, keep riding, and come back smiling
While winter is often a trickier time to stay active due to the cold weather and short days, it’s a vital tool for safeguarding our physical and mental wellbeing during what is set to be another challenging few weeks ahead. Although the restrictions have been tightened, riders are still encouraged to get out and enjoy some fresh air – whether that’s for daily exercise or essential journeys.
    Mainland Scotland is at Level 4 and will now have to follow enhanced guidance including;

Household rules now apply to all activity (no sports bubble at Level 4) i.e. 2 people from a maximum of 2 households only. Sport can continue but it will be for a maximum of 2 people together unless under 12 years as they do not count towards the total (so more can take part).  Travel is restricted (as previously) but with ‘stay at home’ the key message and this has been put into law from midnight on 4 January 2020. There are however exemptions for sport, exercise and recreation and participants can still travel up to 5 miles from the boundary of a LA to take part in informal exercise such as walking, running, golf or cycling as long they abide by the rules on meeting other households noted above e.g. 2 adults from maximum of 2 households. Please ensure that you have reviewed the latest Scottish Government guidance if planning to take part in informal rides during this period.
Do your bit to minimise the risk of Coronavirus spreading by abiding with this guidance, the restrictions will not last forever.
    With thanks,
    Eric (Covid coordinator for JWCC)

After the disaster for club events that was 2020, I have uploaded the provisional calendar for 2021. There are a couple of caveats though.
    1. All club events remain suspended until further notice. In practice, this means that I fully expect that none of the scheduled events will actually take place until after Easter at the earliest. There is at best a 50% chance that the schedule will run normally after July.
    2. Just because an event is on the calendar, do not assume that it will take place unless a thread is opened specifically for it.
    3. Events that do not take place will not be rescheduled.
    4. Events that do take place will be run in accordance with the most up to date SC/CTT guidance. Where there is conflict between the two bodies, we will always support the stricter regime to ensure your safety.

I hope everyone has a great season, when it eventually gets going.

And actually, I've ignored rule 3 above...

Ok, ride created, Dust in the Wind. Moderately lumpy, but a flat, fast finish for those that want it.
I’ve added all the club members in my following (and a couple of non members), but if I’ve  missed anyone out that you know of, get them to follow me on Zwift and I’ll add them.
    And of course, BYOB.

If you’re doing a bit of walking in your bike shoes (cafe stops, etc,), it’s worth investing in a set of cleat covers. These are plastic covers that protect your cleats when you’re off the bike and can extend the working life of your cleats by a considerable amount. I’ve used them for years, and I change cleats about every 18 months.

Just to let you know the track league is being postponed to January 2021 and the season is now going to be the calendar year rather than the winter with a short break over Christmas/ New Year.  There will be a longer break in the summer, so in effect the actual months being raced will be the same as before the difference will be in the league table.
    4 months to get fit!

SC issued new guidance on 19th August to the effect that club confined events can take place again from 5th September. Gee, ta.
Realistically, that gives us 3 weeks to run events midweek before light stops play. Even using Saturdays leaves us extremely limited, so I propose to the membership that we run no confined events this year.
At this stage, the whole club run on Boxing Day is doubtful, but who knows?

As we edge gradually back to semi-normality we are now allowed club runs, albeit in reduced group sizes and with safeguards in place.
The committee have given the ok for club rides to start up but only in groups of a maximum of 5. We can do multiple groups though, so long as we don’t mix.
With this in mind I propose the first ride to meet at 9:30am this Sunday outside the club rooms. It’ll be the bog standard ride to BB in Largs. The reason being it’s somewhere we are familiar with so less chance of any social distancing faux pas in the cafe. If all goes well we can do different routes each week.
If folk post up here to let me know they are coming I will call the BB to book a table as it’s reduced capacity and bound to be busy, going by the forecast.
anyone wishing to attend must give me their phone number so I can pass it on to Eric, our Covid officer. I will bring hand sanitizer which anyone is free to use but ideally you will  bring your own.
If someone has a mechanical they will have to fix it themselves due to 2 metre rule.
Finally, if you have a dry cough, have lost your sense of smell &/or taste or have a temperature PLEASE STAY AWAY!!!!
