Didn’t get to ride today, so thought I’ll do some maintenance on my bike!
But it seems I’ve ran out of bikes to clean so thought I’d have a go at my new coffee machine instead 🙂
All machine deserves some TLC in my opinion 🙂
I know coffee & road cycling have a real & historic connections, but upon opening up the “grinding mechanism” for some deep cleaning, I was met with what look not unlike a rear wheel free-hub ratchet ........ the similarity is beyond doubt 🙂
Well, the fact that I had to use my Park-Tool 10mm socket to get the nut off & my Pedro long nose pliers felt as if I was working on one of my bikes 🙂
.......... sorry, I think I’ve got too much time on my hand 😕
    Cheers

Very impressive Chung. Properly serviced hubs feel great.

Met Mike Ferguson on the track after I left Alan. We had a great blether. It is tremendous and truly heartening to see how much progress he is making, now out on the bike 3 times a week.

    Hi All,
Last Sunday while enjoying a loop around Loch Katrine with Alex Mclean, he asked me a question which I found quite fun & revealing to answer!
Given the recent exploit of Julian Alaphilippe in the Tour & Winning the Milan-San Remo race earlier on the year!
So, the question is - If you were a Pro Rider:
"Would you rather Win a Tour de France stage & get the Yellow (for a day or 2, not the overall in Paris, mind) or
A Classics Monument (Milan- San Remo, Flanders, Paris Roubaix, LBL or Tour of Lombardi) ?"

I know which one Martin Mulholland would rather want, so he doesn't have to answer!
Just to get the ball rolling - I'm with Martin, I rather win a Monument, but it has to be the Ronde or Hell of the North ....... the cobble ones obviously!
    What's your thoughts?
    Cheers
    Chung

According to David C, I think he’s busy looking for his lost “mojo”
    I hope/know he’ll find it very soon!

Glad I made the effort despite getting up late for the clubroom, so ambushed the Bunch in Stewarton!
Thanks Davie for the mystery tour route & the gang for letting me hide in the back 🙂
Not been to Largs for a wee while, so that was really nice!
    Cheers

Monument. There are only 5 in any given year and the chances are history will remember those winners. A stage win and a day or so in yellow are imo less prestigious.
If it’s a choice between a grand tour and a monument, then the grand tour win for me.

    Clubrooms 9am.  Erskine Bridge 9:30am
Head to Garelochhead the usual way, but turn left and head down to Kilcreggan via Rosneath.  Cafe at Kilcreggan (remember it might be slow - someone remind me to call ahead!).  Then we head to Coulport and up the Coulport drag, back to the naval base but then turn up Glen Fruin...  we'll then head back to base via Balloch the usual way (option for additional cafe/coffee in Balloch or even McDs if anyone requires it).
135km.  PVCC doing a similar route, so let's make sure we're at the cafe first (for additional bragging rights, lol) so when we get to the bridge we won't be hanging about!
    Route:  https://www.strava.com/routes/20357699
    See you there!

Lovely run into Aberfoyle with a Bunch of 7, then Alex & I headed round Katrine as it was rude not to, given the scorching weather 🙂
Managed to visit 2 cafes that I've never been in before, the first being the "Go Ape" Adventure centre half way up the Duke's & the Wee Blether next to Loch Ard just before Aberfolye, both top recommendation from Alex ........ unfortunately for him though, not a Samsung mobile phone charger was to be found in each of these cafes (all i-Phone users) since Alex had forgotten to charge his phone for Strava before he came out 🙂 ......... he was convinced that everyone was out to piss him off  🙂
Anyway, it was a very long enjoyable day on the saddle & thanks to the Bunch earlier on & Alex for great company all day .......thankfully, I think his phone survived to record all his ride on Strava ........ otherwise it did not happen!
196km for me in the end, not quite the 200 I was hoping for, but I just ran out of road

P.S - Alan, lovely retro restoration & build on your Gazelle .......... especially the SWITCH to Campagnolo!
You seem to be a changed man since your retirement, one is never too late to walk down the righteous path of Cycling Component Enlightenment 🙂 ......... keep walking my brother!

    Cheers

    Brilliant run yesterday.
Time-trialled back to Gourock - no train, so carried on as fast as possible to Port Glasgow and just made the train from Wemyss Bay by a couple of minutes - so SWMBO is still talking to me - though I did have to wash the dishes last night.
