Richard reacted to EricL in Covid Update 20/11/2020 - Bunch runs
Scottish Cycling has issued a note of clarification for the latest guidance outlined above, which also confirms our understanding of matters regarding transit across Local Authority boundaries, as follows;
Protection Levels Guidance Update There was some late changes to the travel guidance on Friday after the regulations were laid in Parliament that was disseminated through to sportscotland/SGBs on Friday afternoon. We've now updated the guidance and it can be found at the link below. The important change is this: Participants of all ages (Adults and U18s) living in a Level 4 area can now travel within around 5 miles of their Local Authority area to take part in organised activity. The below point still stands Riding through areas at all levels is permissible and you may travel within 5 miles into a Level 4 Local Authority area to start your ride. In essence, the above allows for rides to transit through all levels as long as they start and finish in the same place https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/Scottish_Cycling_Protection_Levels_v6.

Richard reacted to Gerard Deeley in Islay
Thought I would share a few pictures of my overnighter on Islay last week with my boys. Just cycled from Port Ellen to Port Charlotte and camped overnight. Islay is quite stunning and I have never seen such a huge and clear night sky. I may have to work out how to carry a telescope by bike too.

Richard got a reaction from chung in Advice on Pedals & Cleats
Cheers for the photos.
The front edge looks like it's worn down to about a third of its original thickness. (I've seen worse on my own shoes, mind!) I think the worn tip is the source of your problems. Stick on a new pair of cleats and see what happens. Good luck.

Richard got a reaction from Dave F in Advice on Pedals & Cleats
The plastic Exustar cleats really do wear down quickly, Dave. It's normal to have to replace them. I go through 2-3 pairs a year, which is a pain, but you have to keep on top of it to keep yourself safe. No point saving a fiver then pulling your foot out at 30mph.
I'd start by replacing the worn cleats. (Any chance of a photo of them, just to see how much wear and tear there is?)

Richard reacted to EricL in Covid19 update 23/09/2020
New message from Scottish Cycling 😷 We have now had it confirmed from sportscotland that as a result of yesterdays announcements, there is NO impact on organised sport. The importance of organised sport complying with the SGB guidance has been reinforced, particularly with the regards to the following: Encouraging all club members to download the Protect Scotland app - www.protect.scot Ensure that all clubs have in place at least one Covid-19 Coordinator, a Risk Assessment is in place, and a record of all attendees is kept for at least 21 days after an activity has taken place. Wider societal rules apply outside of the organised activity. Please continue to reinforce to club members the importance of adhering to this, considering the image that we portray if large groups are seen without physical distancing before and after activities
Please encourage all club members to ensure they have knowledge of what the guidance is, and ensure that they know who their club Covid-19 Coordinator is for the purposes of Test & Protect.
JWCC - Covid19
I'd like to believe that most of you have read my previous Covid19 Updates and know what is expected from each of us, when JWCC is out on the road, pretty well by now.
Below is the link to our most up to date Scottish Cycling (SC) guidance, which hasn't changed recently, and would encourage every rider to take a little time to read through this so we can all understand what our personal responsibilities are when riding, congregating, and at café stops. Please plan accordingly for before, during and after each group ride.
My thanks go to each of the volunteer bunch ride co-ordinators to date for their part in taking the Test & Protect rider contact details for the club register and promptly sending these on to me.
As a reminder, any member intending to organise a JWCC bunch ride then please make sure you have fully read and understood the latest SC guidance document, confirm with all participants of their need to comply with the general societal rules, and forward the rider contact details, time of ride and any café stop locations to me as soon as possible following completion of the ride. Ideally this will happen automatically and I won't have to chase folk up for these lists. Activities, bunch rides and gatherings posted in the name of JWCC on The Forum, club Facebook page and JWCC WhatsApp will qualify for the need to report. Details of all member riders and any guests are to be included - no exceptions.
Finally, If you are unsure of any aspect of the Covid guidance then please do ask for clarification rather than 'winging it'..... it is up to all of us to get this right! (and remember - no house parties! 😟)

With thanks,

Richard reacted to AlanT in Corona virus update
SC issued new guidance on 19th August to the effect that club confined events can take place again from 5th September. Gee, ta.
Realistically, that gives us 3 weeks to run events midweek before light stops play. Even using Saturdays leaves us extremely limited, so I propose to the membership that we run no confined events this year.
At this stage, the whole club run on Boxing Day is doubtful, but who knows?

Richard reacted to AlanT in Sunday 16/08/20
Well done George, for taking this on. Personally, I don’t fancy taking part in bunch rides at all right now, but I totally understand the desire for others. Stick to the rules, stay safe, stay well, stick to FACTS.

Richard reacted to Jannza in Arran (leisurely pace)
Alarm was set for 7am, set off at 8am. I was booked on the 09:40 ferry. Joined by another 9 or maybe 11 people and bikes.
Didn't have any breakfast, thought I would get a bacon roll and a coffee to take away in the wee cafe just beside the ferry in Brodick, it was shut!
Got off the ferry in Brodick at 10:50 and headed south. Lovely smooth tarmac in Brodick.
Carried on to next place, cafe shut! There was one opened in Whiting Bay but it was busy and couldn't be bothered waiting in the queue.
It was Lochranza? (Wee ferry) before there was anywhere open that sold hot food.
Quite enjoyed the big long climb and then the totally awesome decent after this 😁
Rolled along into Brodick for 4pm in time to catch the 16:45 ferry back
FYI you need to wear face covering in the ticket office and on ferry (in case anyone forgets)
There is quite a lot of very rough tarmac, particularly going through towns/villages.
There are no food or drinks available on ferry.

Richard reacted to EricL in Scottish Cycling - Covid19 Update 13/07/2020
Many of you will already be aware of the updated guidance issued yesterday by Scottish Cycling on The Way Forward for the sport and club activities, the full document can be viewed here https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/Scottish_Cycling_The_Way_Forwardv7.pdf
For now it appears that a continuation of 'social' solo and small group rides remains the only realistic course of action - max adult bunch size will likely be 5 if all riders are from different households, still nothing indoors (i.e. use of clubroom), no events, no confined TT. Maintain 2m distancing and personal hygiene (hands, mouth & nose). To avoid need for ride register maybe best to let ‘informal’ ride groups form. Much of the SC document relates to club coaching, which we don’t do, and activities for U17 (Jets).
This document from Scottish Cycling is being regularly amended however it does follow guidance from and requires prior approval of the Scottish Government as each relaxation is announced. so we can expect further changes in the coming weeks.
In the meantime have a good read through and self manage accordingly as there continues to be no official JWCC event until further notice.

No words required. Received this magnificent photo today from an SA vet who quite understandably would love to become a DA vet 🤣

Proof, if you ever needed it that the BBC lies. I'm looking out the window at a distinct lack of rain. See you at 11.

Richard reacted to Darryl Gunson in Sun 26 Jan 2020 - Kilcreggan Kanter
Well it’s stopped raining here and forecast looks ok ish. I plan to head out at 11. Could meet at bustop at Top of Georgetown Road at 11.15 for 2 to 3 hours steady pedalling and maybe a quick coffee in Kilmalcolm?

In case you've missed them, there are loads of free-to-watch 'cross races on GCN's racing channel on YouTube. Ideal if you're killing time on the turbo (or just killing time.)
Highly recommended: the women's Waaslandcross Sint-Niklaas, and the men's Loenhout round of the DVV Trofee**.

Richard reacted to Dave C in Sunday 12th January :Barmill circuit
Six left Miller Street,in the rain, Elaine, Karen, Fiona, Mia, Graham and me and headed up Bowfield hill into dry. Made our way to Barmill and then onto Blair Road through puddles. Through the new roundabout at Highfield and then change of coffee stop to Aughengree Farm. Fully refreshed headed for the cycle track to Lochwinnoch and then up Johnshill. After a puncture and then a Hail Stane storm on the way up the group headed home. A better day than the forecast and good to get a good sized group again.

Richard reacted to P McDonald in Super Saturday 11.1.20
We never really post the weekly track reports any more so I thought I'd post a random one to encourage anyone sitting on the fence to make a return,
Super Saturday B/C group results today showed a good presence of JWCC in the top 5 and the return of Jan McT to the type of form he was on a couple of years ago,
Tempo : 1st Jan, me unclassified
Points: 3rd Jan, me 4th
Scratch: 2nd Me, Jan unclassified
Devil : Jan 3rd, me 4th
So for those of you who have been there done it (Sam, Stevie, Alan, Alan, Darryl, Charlie, Billy, Richard etc etc) and anyone thinking about it, this is a great way to spend a very grim Saturday afternoon

Nice one Kenny!
I’m pretty sure that’s Kenny Christies with the “Reynolds” top, Tony Carrigan leading Kevin Habick ..... on the 2nd last picture!
Isn't that Dr. Mclean in the yellow waterproof in the 1st picture too 🙂
Cheers
