martin reacted to thejanullrichdietplan in CLUB ZWIFT STARTS TONIGHT WED 18th MARCH 2020 1830 hours
Decent turn out for the first ride...keeping riders together feature worked pretty well meant everyone could work at their own level and get a good workout.
Next ride probably Saturday morning i’ll post more details later

martin reacted to Alan McLean in All activities cancelled until further notice
Hi all, difficult times and I hope you are well.
The committee are looking at ways of maintaining club fitness, morale and community through bad times.
We are delighted that Iain McTavish has taken the time to create a Zwift ride for club members. He has kindly given up his own account and can be found under Johnstone Wheelers on the app.
First experimental ride is TONIGHT WED 18th March 2020 at 1830. Iain has kindly put links on club Instagram page too.
This is a no-drop ride, if your pedals are turning you stay in the bunch!
Members welcome to join. We will start a new thread in General.
Gang Forward.

Cheers Billy, appreciated.
Was a big surprise tbf but was chuffed to see the nomination came from a bunch of the Jets themselves.

Top posting Billy😀 sorry we won't be riding together for a while. You are hereby invited to the massive club Arran ride which I shall organise to celebrate the rebirth of club rides. Until then I'll see you and Mul on Zwift, once I work out how to join. Stay well.

Fraser Elsby, Kyle Maitland, Fiona Davidson.
Thanks for organising Alan. Not done that for a long while, but it didn't take long to remember why I don't like time trials.

Sunshine, showers and a strong wind today meant times were never going to be fast. 11 hardy riders braving the conditions, 5 of them Jets. Best turn out we've seen for a few years.
David Cowan 38:36, paid
Fiona Davidson 37:35, paid
Kyle Maitland(J) 33:26
Fraser Elsby (J) 36:47
Martin Mulholland 37:22, paid
Andy Ross 39:59, paid
Ruaridh Mulholland (J) 38:59
James Ross (J), 36:12
Fraser Anderson (J), 42:13
Iain McTavish, 29:43, paid
Marc Kelly, 30:58, paid
Some great times there in the conditions, and congratulations to Iain McTavish for picking up the first silverware of the season. If someone can let me know the missing jets surnames, I'll update the list.
Thanks to all the marshalls, and to my glamorous assistant, Elaine Muirhead at the start/finish line.
I have £18 to transfer to the club account.

PS the descent to Bedoin is a cracker. Smooth tar, flowy corners, fast fast fast.

Echo what Billy says. The Bedoin route is the classic one, road from Sault is longer and easier, and the road from Maulecene is busy.
Some good bars in Bedoin too.

martin reacted to thejanullrichdietplan in Sunday 16th Reliability #3 Sinclair Street
With a south westerly at 25mph and gusting to over 40 this route manages to maximise the potential for getting most of that as headwinds and side headwinds. Practically the only bits with a tail will be the Georgetown and Sinclair Street.
Can we not just get the train down the coast and then a tailwind all the way home?

wet wet wet. Good sized bunch for the new year including three Carols. Run was cut short at Cairn cafe where we blethered for about an hour.
Most then headed home from there and me Carol C intended to accompany Graham and Gerard over Houston Road but took a wrong turn and ended up at Kilmacolm Golf club clubhouse. Sorry guys.
Dave
Planning to set up a whatsApp thread for 30 milers and other bunch runs. More details to follow.

Happy New Year
Easy paced 30-40 miles to get the new year started, around some local roads but the reverse of the usual routes.
Leave Clubrooms 9.30am Miller Street, Johnstone.
Cycle track to Bridge of Weir, Torr Road to Gateside, Auchenfoyle Rd to Auchentiber to kilmacolm. West Glen Road to Houston & Bridge of Weir for coffee.
Open to all and if new to cycling, all you need to turn up with is a spare tube, tyre levers , pump ,money for coffee and your enthusiasm.
Please post if coming,
Dave

martin got a reaction from Ramsay in Road cc article - Campbell Hutcheson
https://road.cc/content/news/269517-complaints-upheld-after-police-failed-act-against-driver-who-left-cyclist-spinal
Shocking article about (ex?) member Campbell Hutcheson. I knew he'd been involved in an incident but never knew the circumstances.
Pretty sure I saw him on a bike last week though, if you're reading this Campbell hope all is well.

A bargain right enough Frank. If no wheelers take it I could share with the Jets - I'm sure one of them might be interested.

martin got a reaction from Ramsay in Flanders 2020
Is that three wheelers then? Lc, George and Tommy? Plus the happy campers Ramsay and Elaine.
We currently have a confirmed 13 Jets and parents with three more who I hope will confirm just shortly. We have an eye on the same accomodation as last year, about 10km out of oudenaarde. Wheelers welcome to join us. It's for rental as a single unit, and with about 20 people it is a good deal. Multiple en suite rooms, self catering. Last year we sent a shopping party out on the Friday afternoon for the essentials: beer, pasta, bread, part fermented milk (thanks Alex )
Planning to travel out thursday evening ferry, short ride friday, sportif saturday, watch race sunday, ferry back monday evening. You would need to take Thurs/Fri/Mon as leave.
For transport our plan is to share vehicles - four bodies per car works well (cabins on ferry are either 2 or 4 berth) - so once we have final numbers confirmed we can work out the logistics of the weekend.
More than happy to blether about this for ages at the agm and presentation night if you are coming along to one of those.
cheers

martin got a reaction from JaneF in Ice warning on the track.
Our jets bunch fell foul of ice on the track this morning - only one spot, just before you enter kilbirnie, but best avoided. Run off water which had frozen into a metre wide strip.
4 riders down but no one hurt though
