The first of our club confined events begins on Sunday, the weather has traditionally been rather excellent for each run resulting in an amazing turnout of club members.
We begin with the Tour of Renfrewshire 40 miles of gentle inclines and amazing scenery.
If you are not already aware the club is reviewing what we do with the confined events.  After feedback from members the reliability rides will remain unchanged.
All of the rides start and finish at the club rooms on Miller Street.
Can we have a key holder to open up prior to the first ride departing.
The first group will leave at 0900, the second group at 0930 and the last group at 0945.  Please indicate which group you intend joining to ensure you have company for the ride.
The route is on the link below but it is helpful if someone is on each group who knows the route.
    http://www.mapmyride.com/gb/elderslie-sct/reliability-no-1-tour-of-the-shire-route-1730016
All donations of food for afterwards are gratefully accepted.  There is enough for quite a hearty feast if everyone brings something for at least one of the four rides.
While using our club rooms again we need to be mindful of current covid restrictions, as if using a cafe.
-can we have a contact list for everyone
    -face coverings when moving around
-you may not attend if you have tested positive or are showing symptoms
-remember to ventilate and maintain good hygiene

If I am not working I will be there and I will bring some patisserie with me

Dave W got a reaction from Darryl Gunson in Saturday 21st 10am, 60 minute group ride on zwift with an after party
Yeah, I use the zwift companion app on my phone to link the turbo to zwift on the laptop. I think the phone uses Bluetooth to talk to the turbo and then it uses the WiFi to link to zwift on the laptop. Usually works smoothly.

I have attached the schedule of confined events  ( and some open ones) for the coming season. Confined event awards are open to all club members, and are an excellent way to introduce new riders to the mysteries and dark arts of Time Trialing.
This year, I have introduced 2 new courses for the League of 10. One is the Hilly course, and the other the restricted gear course at Gateside. These will be one of events within the league of 10, which will be mostly on the Westferry, as normal.
If you want to give TT-ing a shot, these are the events to try.

Like Paul's suggestions. The whole idea IMO is for all members of each group to contribute to the pace, regardless of what that pace may be. (with the exception of the Clune). Liked the steady through and off. This provides good training benefit, even if some riders find it easier than others !

Liked the new format tonight. Didn't seem any easier (and my numbers confirm that), but I managed to hang on for longer, not actually blowing up until Houston Road.

Dave W reacted to PaulL in Over the Hill and back 400km Audax
In our goal to qualify for Paris Brest Paris Myself, Davie B and David C headed down to Galashiels for the 400(420)km out and back to Barnards Castle. We stuck together until the Barnard Castle the half way mark and then Davie B continued at a faster pace with a couple of guys we had met and  David C and I started the dusk Wet Climb over some Moss hill.
Through the damp night we rode but! it was a balmy 12 degrees so it was not too bad. We did encounter few kms of road with 100s of frogs on it which passed the time trying not to squash any, which we managed! Until I heard David shout! -1 frog bless his soul, a few minutes later a Huge Rat ran into David's wheel but he managed to stay upright, I used to have a Rat her name was "Otago" David loves my patter. It was about then 3am? that Davids Knee started to hurt and our energy levels were very low, luckly we passed through lockerbie and had only 20km to a 24 hour with a service stop, I'm not a big fan of McDonalds but I was tonight. After about 5mins cycling David convinced me that the service station was here?? "Look" he said and pointed towards a BP sign behind some trees, But we stil had had 20km to go? I wasnt going to argue with him or his shiney new Wahoo gps, a few minutes later we got to a Service stop only to find it was the wrong one and nothing was open(Hammock Award Contender), a few swears were jokingly exchange and we rode on to McDonalds. Once we got there David went for a Sleep and I changed out of my wet clothes. I tried to sleep but people were intent on talking to me even though my eyes were closed, but best McDonalds I ever had, I even ate David's leftovers once he fell asleep.
Back on the bike and back into the rain, With Davids Knee and my development of what I can only describe as "the worse butt pain in the world ever®" we took a nice steady pace back the last 100km.. the sun came out near the end and we were greeted by fried egg and bacon sandwiches by the organisers. A quick shower and off back up the road, I told David I would stay awake on the journey home as he was driving, I think I lasted abut 5mins.
Started at 9:00am finished next day at 10:17am
    Distance : 419.91km    Time pedaling 18:48:33     Elevation 3,922m
Avg Speed    22.3km/h    Elapsed Time    25:17:05
Anyhow only a 600km to do to qualify, To be honest i thought these would be easier than they are... yes they are physically draining but it really is all in the mind. Thanks for the company Lads

Tommy & I had a great wee run round the coast to Largs today.  The Millport ferry just arriving around the same time as us, so we hopped on and took a wee jaunt round the island, refuelling at The Ritz cafe.  We cracked on up the middle of the island then back round from Millport to the ferry.  I couldn't pass the BB without stopping so popped in there for a coffee and a cake, then we hit the Haylie back to base.  Lovely warm day and tan has got even better
    Cheers Tommy!

Forecast is only getting worse, so I'm going to postpone this event until mid April. Choices are Saturday 13th or Saturday 20th. The latter date is the Easter weekend, I think, so may not be suitable if people are away.
    Please post up your preference.

It's the start of the Confined Event TT series, on Sunday 10th March. This is the first trophy of the season up for grabs to the fastest rider on the day.
2 laps of a hilly route with some challenging turns and a terrific descent, all in the small ring. An excellent introduction to time trialling for beginners, as well as a decent warm up for the more experienced.
In keeping with the spirit of restricted gears, only those riding road bikes will be considered eligible for the trophy, i.e. no TT bikes, skinsuits or pointy hats please. Some of the more senior jets will also be welcome to ride in this first competitive confined event of the season.
There will be a short ride down to Castle Semple after the run for tea and scones, for all the athletes.
As normal, there will be a £3 entry fee, payable on the day, the proceeds going towards the costs of the awards at the end of the season.
    The course:
    http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/651582320
Please note that the start point has been moved to the duck pond where parking is better and traffic is slower. This should make the start a little safer for everyone.
Meet at the start at 09:45 ready for first rider off at 10:00.
Volunteers are required to hold and timekeep
I will post the Risk Assessment on Friday. Sadly, I will not be able to ride this year due to family commitments.

I did have a blast Davie, thanks!
My race report for the v40 is, well, I came last!
It was great to be part of the event though. It was a bit different to the SCX races being a full on UCI event. It was cool to rub shoulders with some top riders and chat to people I wouldn’t normal come into contact with in the Scottish series. The full field was gridded at the start. For some reason I got gridded ahead of a few people, so I didn’t feel too out of place at least! With a fully organised grid starting on tarmac, and with a lot of experienced riders, it meant the start was stress free – but really fast. I held on to a larger group at the back for about half a lap and then I was on my own. Lots of shouts for ‘Johnstone’ really helped. I managed to get round, figured out how to ride through the difficult second sand pit, and manage not to throw up once I’d crossed the line. Awesome way to end my cross (very short) season.

Well done Cedric , fantastic ride!
