XXX reacted to AlanT in Velopreda 10
Cold wet and horrible conditions this morning. Wind wasn't really a factor, but it was extremely moist. And cold. Clocked 24:28, 16 seconds outside my PB, but faster than anything I did last season. Took me two hours to warm up again afterwards.
Did I mention the rain?

Felt like a hard day today in cold, dry and pretty still conditions. Thanks to Paul and Alex for timing and pushing.
Recovery scone in Bernies cafe was just ace.
And 27.51 is a massive PB, nearly a minute faster than last year.

XXX reacted to Emma MacLaren in University Track Champs
So the BUCS track champs were in Manchester at the weekend. I'm pretty happy with how all my races went. Saturday the only event I was doing was individual pursuit, which due to a lack of time, they cut down form 3 to 2.5k. I was hoping to get a 4.10 for 3k, and ended up getting 3.31 for 2.5k which placed me 8th, so I think if I had held my pace for another two laps I should have got 4.11-12. Only first and second managed to go below 4 minutes this year with 3.57 and 3.58, and third and fourth got 4.05 and 4.10 in their medal rides over 3k. Sunday was team sprint and points. I hadn't practised team sprint in a few months so didn't know what to expect, but we rode a pb with 39.6 and qualified fourth which put us into the minor final. Sarah my team mate was then given some race wheels for the bronze ride off, however she pulled the rear, and we weren't given a restart so had to settle for fourth overall. Then onto the points race, only 40 laps, but the bunch seemed a bit nervous, and i think there was a few inexperienced riders. There was quickly a big crash taking out 5-7 girls, I think they were all fine after a while, and some rejoined the bunch. Then with 13 laps to go another two went down right in front of me on the banking. Once the race restarted I managed to get on a wheel and cross the line third, picking up 2 points and finishing 7th overall.
So overall I thought it was a good weekend of racing with a good number of Scottish riders picking up medals, and a particularly well contested women's sprint event, which for the first time went to 1/8 rounds rather than just finals. I just want to say thanks for the use of the club disc for the pursuit and team sprint, and for Billy's training plans and advice, and I'm looking forward to improving on these times and racing more throughout the year.

Thanks to Graham for the timekeeping and risk assessments(you missed out the horses!) and notices, and to Alan for the holding up bit. Absolutely glorious weather too, clearly contributing to the massive PB

I suppose that would make for a good tactic - make the scoring so complex that i'm the only one who knows how the points are allocated!

Yes the points race
You know how it is you set your season goals, and then you set the shoot for the stars goal, the hazy dreaming vision like wining Liege Bastone Liege a stage in the TDF or if your a track racer beating the Johnstones very own King of track
Well I can now retire beating the King of the points race done
Did I get any points no but finished 5 in last sprint which on the only night Ian never won points on a sprint equates to me finishing as the highest 0 point person ,

With the weather getting lighter could we not try and post up runs in advance so we can get some sort of order

Another fun night in the B 12 lap scratch sat at the very back for 10 laps , but moved round to finish 15 /20 , devil next decided I was a sprinter and sat as the assassin lasted about 4 sprints then out.
The points race was great sat at the back until what I thought was two to go but it was three stay in front until turn 3 crossed the line 5 in final sprint to finish 10/15
Guess what last race 40 lap scratch sat at the back all race finished middle I think

Strange night for me went from feeling good to feeling poor then back to feeling good again. Was 3rd in the first scratch, eliminated about midway in the devil then points...total brain fade here at 28 i came to the front and pushed the pace then started sprinting for lap 26. The sprint of course was lap 24! Struggled a bit after that. Last was a 30 lap scratch, was in a 4 man break then it became 3 and we managed to get the lap with about 2 or 3 to go. Didnt play the cards very well in terms of the sprint because i was too focused on getting the lap and doing longer turns but despite that happy with how it turned out - tried for a lap so many times and it finally paid off!
ps. think you forgot to mention something about the points race Billy!
