Morna reacted to GrahamF in 17th April – Whole Club Run to Sheila's Diner
After a great turnout last year, here's this year's early season Whole Club Run. Having checked Sheila's facebook page, it looks as good as last year!

Lots of options of how to get there to suit all ambitions and training programmes, including (with distances from the ferry):

    1. Straight from the ferry - 8 miles return and flat! But could go up to Strachur first bringing the distance up to 28 miles, 500 ft.
    2. A western route via Loch Tarzan and the A886 (Glendaruel) - 40 miles, 2,000 ft.
    3. Loch Tarzan and C11 – 46 miles, 2,600 ft.
    4. Over The Rest via Glen Fruin, 62 miles, 2,600 ft from Erskine Bridge. (could add a Hell's Glen option for some extra feet)

Start times may vary depending on routes chosen, but there are outbound ferrys at 08:30, 09:00, 09:30, 10:00, 10:30, 10:50
Suggest aiming to meet at the Diner around 12:30 to 13:00

To mark the end of the season and the start of winter time, here's a whole club run to Largs and the Bagel Basket.

Starting from the Club Rooms at 09:00 (winter time, the clocks go back the night before).

As in previous years for this run, the intention is to set of in groups of 15 to 20 with members mixed from the regular Sunday bunches, proceeding anticlockwise to the Bagel Basket, via Kilmacolm and Gourock.  After the stop we can reassemble into different groups to depending on who want to take which route back.

The outbound leg is 32 miles from Miller St., the return can be anything you want it to be, including the train if required!  The minimum return cycling is 20 miles via the Haylie Brae and Kilbirnie.
Nearer starts are possible for anyone who may not feel up to cycling all the way.

Remember the clocks go back, so you get an extra hour in bed, and mudguards on please! (but lets hope it's not wet)

Please post if you will be riding, then I can warn the BB how big an invasion to expect.

It's all happening on Planet Jet this week.

We are all sorry and at the same time delighted to report that Sarah Bradford is moving on from the club. For season 2016 Sarah is moving up to Team Jadan, a women's race team based in Yorskhire.

She is guesting with them this week at the An Post Rás na mBan, Ireland's premier women's road race.
This is a 5 day, six stage race covering 400km with an international field of over 100 riders.

Full race info at http://www.rasnamban.com/ including a start sheet showing some big names.

No results from this evening's opening 68km stage yet, but our spies tell us Sarah had a safe bunch finish. Keep tuned in for more!

Congratulations on the new team Sarah - but come back and see us please!

    Hi Morna,
The social runs on a Wednesday usually meet outside the club room in Miller street around 6.30.
Keep an eye out for posts.
Most of my friends think I'm a mad cycologist if it's any consolation :-))

    Hi Morna,
I'm sure you will have no trouble finding a run to suit.
I am a new member of JWCC and also new to road cycling.
Everyone I have met so far has been very friendly and helpful and a great team effort on the 30 miler run on Sunday there in the wind. Was a great run in the sunshine though.
Hopefully there will be a few out for a social run tomorrow if that interests you also.
    Best regards,
    SansC

Many thanks for all info. Looking forward to joining in very soon.

I think I may just be slightly mad to sign up for the 110, but I'm going to do it. Even if it takes me all day. I do enjoy cycling with others, it's much more fun. Will definitely post what I intend on coming along to, be great to get the support from other riders. Fed up just toddling about on my bike, be great to learn how to do it properly.

It will be good to see you out on some club runs, but be aware that there may not be a 30 miler run on 6th Sept. as the club is hosting an open time trail that day (the Sam Dooley 25 mile TT), and most of the available members are likely to be helping with it.

Things coming up that you may like to get involved with include:

Tues. 25/8  A 7 mile club time trail on Georgetown Road between Inchinnan and Houston.  Potential members are welcome, there are usually some 30 milers taking part and it's only as serious as you want it to be! Sat.   29/8  A 10 mile hill club time trial starting at Langbank Wednesday evenings  - there is often a social ride, watch out for postings

    Hello Morna,

Welcome to the club & hope to see you out soon!

If you're mad enough to do the PFS 110mile sportive, then I'm sure you'll be just fine riding in a bunch :-)

Just keep an eye on the bunch as the folks above mentioned & see what you fancy. It's alway good to post up to say you intend on coming out to let folks look out for you. You'll be looked after by the guys & gals on the run that's for sure.

Anyway, good luck in your PFS & see you on the road!

    Cheers

It doesn't matter how long it takes to complete the 7 mile TT, everyone is different.  Really fast riders would complete it in 16 mins, the first time I ever tried this it took me 27 mins. The hilly TT is not uphill all the way, it flattens out, prob about 40mins to complete.  For both events riders set off at 1 min intervals.
