just noticed i got a KOM after all the best bit is that Wout van Aert, Dimitri Claeys, Jaspar Stuyven, Greg van Avermaet and Jelle Wallays were joint KOM holders so they will all have received the message.

    Hi
Some of the local climbs have been totally bossed by Quick Step etc on Strava. I am looking at The Full Carruthmuir aka. Phil's Folly and I've seen others.
can I suggest that during the winter gales (we'll need storm force tailwinds ) we make club efforts to get one of these back.
I would like to imagine Wout van Aert or GVA receiving the "Uh oh, Galeb/Paul/Ian has just taken your KOM etc..." message. (I would also like to think they might just pop back to regain their Kom). Perhaps they weren't really trying but I think they were.
I will volunteer to lead out for, oooh, first 20 seconds.
Anyone got a list of likely segments?
    Alan

Stage 1 of comeback - Shout abuse at you all waiting at the bus stop from the safety of my car!
Stage 2 - actually come out and get my rather large bottom handed to me on a plate!!
    Looked a really healthy turnout!
    You all miss me!

    That’s was, erm, fun?
my first chaingang in 2 years & a bit of a shock. Barely made it over Bishy Hill & Westferry was mental.
was less frenetic into the headwind and even found myself off the front for about 0.65 seconds.
will be back for more next week.

    Jan,
How you commute by bike can be greatly influenced by the work environment and what you do for a living. Rolling up to a building site a tad sweaty is a million miles away from loitering in a pool of sweat in a plush office in nasal range of your colleagues. Shower facilities - brill; if not I'd recommend Life Adventure dry wash - liquid soap the evaporates with use. It works, end of.
    For the commute
A small a back pack as you can get away with is my preference. I'm lucky enough to be able to leave work attire (suit and shoes) in the office (office move means I now have a locker and a shower!!). So shirt/top, socks and smalls folded neatly and in seal-able plastic bags (keeps clothes dry) and into back pack with usual gubbins. A 6 mile commute won't see them crumpled. Panniers scare me. I've seen riders with what would appear to be half their wardrobe in a huge pannier on the right side of the frame. just waiting to get clipped on a close pass. No thanks.
additional comments should be read in the style of Baz Luhrmann,
Ride just left of centre and don't give an inch unless completely necessary. Don't ride in the gutter, that's where drain covers live. The next place after that is the kerb.
Assume you'll not been seen by  drivers,  even if you're lit up like a Christmas tree!!
Don't filter thru traffic unless you're on a red light. It's easier just to sit behind the car in front, the driver behind you will squeezing your space if you let him.
Ride your bike like you'd drive your car in town but don't wear headphones, your ears are like a second pair of eyes.
Assume pedestrians are car drivers who have lost their vehicles, the rules of the road don't apply here either.
Use the bus lane to the full.
Wear lycra, everyone will hate you, but you will arrive in comfort and not overheat. Eat breakfast at work, a ride in on empty will do you good
    Choose good tyres.

Another great night. Heggies once more but made it to finish this time. Blame Robbie for losing chance of points at intermediate as he in front of me when punctured. Very inconsiderate.

Another good run on a pleasant evening. Couldn't hold the wheels on Bishy hill, then caught up with Charlie at the start of Westferry. We worked together until Heggies, then the hill did what Hills do to me. Rolled through the bunch at the top of the Clune, then suffered a spontaneous double leg failure just before the final descent into Kilmacolm. Met up with Gerrard in the village and we worked our way back . Shattered but happy to be out.

Your insurance will be more than your bike , I wouldn’t bother buying another bike , ride with what you have and see if your going to do it every day , unless you have had your license revoked , then buy anything you want personally, when I did commute to work I drove in on one day and put what I needed cloths wise in my locker so I didn’t need to carry anything , and rode any bike I felt like

With the clocks changing that means the Thursday night chaingang is due to start  - meeting at 6pm at the bus stop on Georgetown for the first few weeks (it will be a bit later as the nights get lighter).
For those that havent done it before this is the route https://www.strava.com/routes/2016619
As a  training run / chaingang, if you get dropped or have a mechanical then the group wont wait. There will however be a regrouping at the top of the Clune.  If dropped on the west ferry there is an opportunity to take a short cut up Heggies. This is the route for that https://www.strava.com/routes/2016627 Don't let the fear of being dropped put you off coming out, it's a good training ride and one that will bring on your fitness  quickly.  Leaving it for a few weeks and trying to build your fitness up won't help as much as jumping right in, if you get dropped by Bishopton so be it - come back again next week and you will hang on longer.
Rear light probably a good idea for the ride home

    Reliability, Reliability, Reliability!
Bummer Ryan, well at least this didn’t happen while you were out on the road :-/
Sounds like you need a new bike :-) ......... Nae, only kidding!
A new rear mech hanger for you then, I always have a spare hanger (or 2) for each & everyone of my bikes, exactly for situations like this, you don’t want to be hunting around for these sometimes hard to get parts. It also works well when you try to sell the frame to at a later date, what with spares to attract potential buyers, shows you care!
As for putting on your new hanger, make sure you apply anti-seize compounds to minimise your current issue next time. That’s an area with lots of sprays especially with your race blade mudguards
Good luck & hope your bike is road worthy very soon!
    cheers

That was some experience. After puncture, jacket zipping issues and road work closures and having to dodge diggers and holes in the road I managed to just miss the ferry (I know how you felt Robbie!). Having said that there is something addicting about it and I dont think this is the end . I must say, one thing that kept me going is the amazing views that I managed to take in every now and then in the head down tt mode position.
Thanks Paul and Michael for trying to get back to me, but seems like it wasn't meant to be this time...

Probably the largest JWCC bunch so far in 2018 headed out and enjoyed a good Reliability run, a few early mechanicals in the bunch duly fixed and Sinclair Street conquered. On the path towards Balloch Rachid hit the deck once his wheels slipped in deep leaves and mud, I had nowhere to go but over the bars and landing in a heap with both bikes, no real damage done! Steady pace thereafter with no more  issues and home in a steady drizzle. Well done to all.
