My understanding is that there will be a small mob denying me entry on the night unless I present my door pass/lemon tart.

It was a lovely day for this, the club website was down - but everything else was good!

    Just 3 riders:

Lap 1   Lap 2   Total       Previous Times
    Carol C    21:25   21:18   42:43       43.03 (2015)
    Dave C    18:25   19:30   37:55       38:04 (2015)
    Alan T     15:58   15:58   31:56       35:06 (2014)

Well done to all, looks like a new set of PBs all round, Alan gets extra points for consistency!

£9 transferred to the club account.

It's amazing what a little bit of sunshine does to swell the numbers in a bunch :-)

I counted 11 head out this morning with one whole bunch doing the intended route - Alex, David C, Eric (new chap) Graham, Gerard, James, PaulC, Paul Levy, Ritchie, Tom (on his new bike - class) & myself headed off 9.15am.

Like a true reliability run, we had to have a few mishaps - a couple of mechanical, a puncture, someone riding onto a grass verge, dropped lights (that was me by the way) & mangkie mudguards. However, that did not spoil the fun at all, unbroken sunshine, no real wind to speak of & a good size bunch was a what makes a great wee run indeed.

We picked up Len on the way into Largs, then some opted to have a coffee stop at Largs (the evening trackies) while the rest of us carried onto round the coast to fulfil the West Kilbride route, but a wrong turn at Dalry meant we skipped a bit out .... oops :-)

Anyway, manage to rejoin the café bunch while back on the cycle track heading home & made our way back to the clubroom for some hot beverage & Gerard's lovely tart :-)

Thanks for wheels today guys & looking forward to next weeks Don Smith then :-)

    Cheers

As a first timer out with JWCC and a fairly novice cyclist I really enjoyed the run this morning, pace and distance slightly higher than I'm used to but that's what I need under my belt to see an improvement. Big thanks to the bunch today for your encouragement, and understanding that there was a 'newbie' on board!

Blue skies, stunning views to Arran, no wind and cake at the end! Can't get much better than that.

Hope to catch up with you again soon.

    Cheers,
    Eric

    Route was announced yesterday http://www.tourofbritain.co.uk/news/14384.php#.VtA_FeZly4k

Looks like the first stage will be taking in a couple of roads that feature in local races (it's hard to tell from the map but it either goes down the A77 or over the dams climb / reverse of the Sewing Bee drag) . There goes the strava leaderboards!

    Gerard,

In my experience the bunch have very fussy taste buds, whatever is supplied is hoovered up, especially if homemade!
May I suggest a signature bake?  Glad I am not competing with you this week!

Alternative suggestions, after a chilly ride soup is always welcome, (1 known vegetarian.) filled rolls, sausage rolls, quiche, tray bakes, scones, tablet/rocky road...... Numbers vary depending on the weather but riders only have to bring along contributions to one out of the four reliability rides, so there should be a lot of food this time! Just post up so there is some variety on Sunday.

The club will be open before departure so you don't have to take contributions along for the ride.
Tea and coffee are present but fresh milk will also be needed. There are paper plates etc in the clubroom but limited pots, real knives etc. There is a new stockpot for heating soup, mugs etc which will be in place by Sunday.

Looks like a nice inn Paul, can add it to the options on where to stay.

I hope to cycle from home, without any 'cheating' by getting a train, though that may work best for others.

Regarding a route, I cycled to Newton Stewart last year via Straiton and Glentrool which was a lovely quiet road over the hills.

I am flexible as to the length of the trip, but happy to fit in with the time constraints of others.  We could perhaps have two groups with different durations but meeting up at the same accommodation.

Are you adhering to n+1? If not then this lovely looking steed is a replacement bike and this gives you permission to get another new bike, unless you invoke the s-1 rule. Looking forward to admiring the shineyness soon.

    Hi All,

Given that it seems like everyone's ( ........Richard, Iain Ginty, Iain67, Big Al Y just to name a few) got a new bike for this year, I thought I would join the party :-)

Here's mine, still work in progress though:

    Hi, Graham,
    I am interested. I am semi-retired now and don't work Thursday/Friday
I won a CAMRA competition and had a free weekend at the Steam Packet Inn in Isle of Whithorn - nice area.
Would we cycle down from Ayr?
Club used to have an Ayr to Newton Stewart run a few years ago. It was a 100 mile round trip.
    Nice route.

I'm thinking of doing a short cycle tour in May, possibly to the Galloway / Isle of Whithorn area across the bank holiday weekend of 1st May.

Maybe 2 nights away, approx. 90 miles cycling each way, plus a tour of the area in the intervening day. The route could be shortened by getting the train to Ayr.  Accommodation could be hotel / B&B / holiday lodge, typical price £70 B&B per night for a twin room.

Anyone interested in doing a little touring, and seeing another part of our beautiful country? Details to be thrashed out, could drive down and enjoy 3 days touring the local area at a pace to suit, etc.

Good weather predicted (probably accompanied by the more often seen Loch Ness Monster), so meet on track behind Amaretto in Bridge of Weir to depart at 1000h.   Probably head towards Kilbarchan, Beith, Gateside, Lugton and Neilston for a compulsory café stop before returning to Bridge of Weir.  Route can be changed if anyone has a preference for something else.  Post up coming.
