Well done, Mr McTavish. Bit of a hollow victory without me there but you have to take your wins when you can 👍

    Warning from the WhatsApp thread.

There is growing evidence of a non infectious but psychologically contagious syndrome. People are at risk developing “Shite weather hopelessness syndrome” characterised by depressive mood, irritability, frustration, and social withdrawal.

People are mistakingly using self isolation and quarantine to limit the spread. even worse some people have gone to Spain to escape the syndrome

I would prescribe period of bunch therapy involving sustained exposure to various gradients of shite weather plus coffee stops.

Restricted gear isn't until 8th March. This week was supposed to have been the Don Smith, but since no one put their hand up to organise it, it's not going to happen this year.
There is a proposal to use the routes this weekend anyway, but I guess that's going to depend on numbers and weather. Again.

Doubt I’ll be out. Getting up in middle of night to watch The Big Dosser fighting 🥊
likely go back to bed after then out at lunchtime when it’s sunny.
    hope you get soaked 😎

Hoping to catch the 9.30 bunch at Bishy Hill 10'ish, having a wee child free afternoon /evening, so enjoying the local hostelries, but planning to use some willpower at some point 🤭

With a south westerly at 25mph and gusting to over 40 this route manages to maximise the potential for getting most of that as headwinds and side headwinds. Practically the only bits with a tail will be the Georgetown and Sinclair Street.
Can we not just get the train down the coast and then a tailwind all the way home?

Stay in Bedion at the foot of the long classic way up. There are three ways up I have done all 3 but the classic route from the car park in the town is the best and most well known, from there it’s fairly gentle out through the town then after a few Ks you take a turn and the mountain starts proper , through the wooded section with the average slope every 1k just to tease you , after what seems like an age you come out at the chateaux and you see the top and now it can be really hard if the wind is blowing if not it’s just hard summit is just over 2100m I think.
Orange is another fairly close town and within riding distance , your mate could try and join the three routes club by riding all three in a day but Bedouin is definitely the best route
If he wants a longer challenge ride the stage of a few years ago fro Vallence along the river then through some up and down country

Only seven weeks to go until the chainy starts up!  6pm at the bus stop for the first few weeks then back to 6.30 as light allows... who is in?
Still time for the crash diets and panic training to have an impact

The first of the 2020  rides on the reliability routes, the Tour of Renfrewshire, 40 miles and only slightly lumpy, is on Sunday 2nd February, as advertised on Strava.
All rides will leave from clubrooms on Miller Street.
Can we have a keyholder available to open the clubrooms prior to the first bunch leaving.
As normal, there will be three bunches with the slower bunch leaving at 9:00am, the second bunch leaving at 9:30am and the fastest bunch at 9:45am.
The route is Clubhouse, Georgetown, Erskine, Bishopton, West Ferry, Clune, The Wall, Lochwinnoch road, then cut off to Howwood and back along the Beith Road. It would be helpful if there was someone in every group who knows the route.

As always, donations of soup, cakes, 5 course banquets with choices of fine wines will be gratefully accepted. Such donations will be served in the clubrooms at the end of the ride, please indicate what you will be bringing in your posting. One contribution per person across the 4 weeks of Reliability rides will mean a hearty snack for all at the end of each ride.
Can we have a non riding volunteer please to heat the soup, etc. for this first week.
If you don't feel ready for the full 40 miles at this stage in the season, don't worry there will be others in the same boat and there are various shorter options available. Just come along and work up an appetite for the soup!

I will plan to join the first group out.
