    Hi,

I have entered this. It is a relatively short (43m )but hilly  (3000ft total) and scenic route with views out to Islay, Jura and Gigha.
John the organiser has asked me to publicise it within the club. The start is about a 2 hr 15 min drive from Johnstone.

Heartily recommend the Kickr Core (Zwift also promote it for their platform as a top choice)

Just read that Eileen has won another Olympic medal in the tandem pursuit at the Paralympics. Congratulations to Eileen, who many of you will remember is a past member of JWCC. I have fond memories of some of the runs when she and Denis (White) turned out on the tandem. Chapeau!

Sorry Roberto, I didn’t check the time before we rolled off. I guess I just made a poor assumption that everyone had turned up.

I would have been down first if it was not for a pesky puncture on those stupid council road blobs that pass for maintenance these days.
A great turnout of cyclists and the media.  It was disturbingly left to me to speak to the BBC and the Scotsman, good job I can converse in fluent gibberish.  A good blast round the Campsies with many cyclists.  Followed by lunch with Pippa, where we heard a load of stuff about what went on in the pro peloton back in the days; plenty of names named and shameful behaviours.  Nice to see Chung, it has been too long and new member Geo.

Good turnout today for the mural unveiling - after that a ride over the Crow and then a loop through Killearn and Strathblane and back to the start.
I’d like the record to state i was joint first to the top of the Crow - beating everyone else including the former Tour de France polka dot jersey winner in the process. A show of strength from Scotlands premier cycling club to the watching media.....I may have started 5 minutes before everyone else but it still counts 🤣

Since we’re unlikely to get out for the February reliability runs, even if the weather is ok, I’ve put a bit of thought into how we could do these on Zwift.
I’m thinking 4 runs on successive Sundays in February, 65, 80, 95 and 110km, 3 groups, cruising at 2, 2.5 and 3 W/kg, setting off 15 minutes apart. No cafe stops, bring your own post run refreshments.
Happy to take on board adjustments to the format.

    Anyone interested?

Ok, ride created, Dust in the Wind. Moderately lumpy, but a flat, fast finish for those that want it.
I’ve added all the club members in my following (and a couple of non members), but if I’ve  missed anyone out that you know of, get them to follow me on Zwift and I’ll add them.
    And of course, BYOB.

Thought I would share a few pictures of my overnighter on Islay last week with my boys.  Just cycled from Port Ellen to Port Charlotte and camped overnight.  Islay is quite stunning and I have never seen such a huge and clear night sky.  I may have to work out how to carry a telescope by bike too.

Roberto reacted to EricL in Covid19 update 13/10/2020
    IMPORTANT
Scottish Cycling has issued a new update and is further amending the restrictions announced last week.
All restrictions will apply until Sunday 25 October 2020, no doubt an updating message will be issued on or before that date.
The restrictions apply to the same Health Board areas as outlined last week, including NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
This time the restrictions confirm rules for adult 'Social Cycling' i.e. non club organised bunch rides with no Covid officer present. In short, ride within your Health Board area with riders from only two households, up to max 6. Physical distancing etc applies.
Club organised bunch rides with Covid officer present with rider registration, ride to remain within Health Board area (riders to remain with HB area in which they reside), group ride numbers reduced from max 30 to maximum of 9. Physical distancing etc applies.
You can read the full announcement below, please take time to absorb the latest changes and make the necessary adjustments if you plan on riding out over the next few weeks.

New message from Scottish Cycling 😷   We have now had it confirmed from sportscotland that as a result of yesterdays announcements, there is NO impact on organised sport.   The importance of organised sport complying with the SGB guidance has been reinforced, particularly with the regards to the following:   Encouraging all club members to download the Protect Scotland app - www.protect.scot Ensure that all clubs have in place at least one Covid-19 Coordinator, a Risk Assessment is in place, and a record of all attendees is kept for at least 21 days after an activity has taken place. Wider societal rules apply outside of the organised activity. Please continue to reinforce to club members the importance of adhering to this, considering the image that we portray if large groups are seen without physical distancing before and after activities
Please encourage all club members to ensure they have knowledge of what the guidance is, and ensure that they know who their club Covid-19 Coordinator is for the purposes of Test & Protect.
    JWCC - Covid19
I'd like to believe that most of you have read my previous Covid19 Updates and know what is expected from each of us, when JWCC is out on the road, pretty well by now.
Below is the link to our most up to date Scottish Cycling (SC) guidance, which hasn't changed recently, and would encourage every rider to take a little time to read through this so we can all understand what our personal responsibilities are when riding, congregating, and at café stops. Please plan accordingly for before, during and after each group ride.
My thanks go to each of the volunteer bunch ride co-ordinators to date for their part in taking the Test & Protect rider contact details for the club register and promptly sending these on to me.
As a reminder, any member intending to organise a JWCC bunch ride then please make sure you have fully read and understood the latest SC guidance document, confirm with all participants of their need to comply with the general societal rules, and forward the rider contact details, time of ride and any café stop locations  to me as soon as possible following completion of the ride. Ideally this will happen automatically and I won't have to chase folk up for these lists. Activities, bunch rides and gatherings posted in the name of JWCC on The Forum, club Facebook page and JWCC WhatsApp will qualify for the need to report. Details of all member riders and any guests are to be included - no exceptions.
Finally, If you are unsure of any aspect of the Covid guidance then please do ask for clarification rather than 'winging it'..... it is up to all of us to get this right! (and remember - no house parties! 😟)

    Latest news from Arran ….
Me, Jan McT and my daughter Emma set out for an SA today on the 7am ferry. Knowing the relative form of the three of us I thought it was pretty much a sure thing. However, every day is a schoolday as they say. The wind was ENE and Jan and I conferred and concluded clockwise was the best option. In all these years neither of us have ever done it with an Easterly or similar wind and we discovered the hard way that it is pretty dang hard. We both produced higher normalised power than 4 weeks ago when we did a pretty comfortable SA and Emma worked with us toe to toe until the final 3 to 4k yet we were about 7 mins slower and were not allowed to embark the ferry as they had just locked the gates ! So it doesn't count
I think I speak for Jan as well in that we knew it was a lot harder even before seeing the numbers, with the exception of the south side run it was basically head or cross head all the way and it felt like it.
I was gutted for Emma as she really deserved the SA on her first attempt with a really strong ride.
There will be plenty more opportunities

I'm booked for 07:00 ferry this Tuesday 11th August, and booked to return on the 13:55 sailing.  Think there's still space left so any socially distant company is welcome.  Looks like a northerly wind forecast, so will probably go anticlockwise.  If legs feel good might attempt a solo SA, depends how much energy I've put into cycling to Ardrossan at silly o clock in the morning to catch the ferry since I tend to be late all the time lol.  Should be a nice gentle tailwind down the western coast so looking forward to getting over there.

Hi folks, just a quick update to let you know that I completed Lockdown CycLEJOG yesterday, cycling a total of 1,000.5 miles (indoors) in 10 days. Thanks very much for the Zwift Ride Ons (especially Alan T), to Fiona and Iain joining my ride, and Elaine for keeping me sane(ish😉). My JustGiving page is still active if you are interested in donating. Once I've, ahem, recovered a bit, I'll hopefully join you guys on Zwift soon. Stay safe and keep pedalling!

It's amongst the fastest bikes for flat and rolling roads - there are a few which are a little faster when paired with the zipp super 9 disc wheel but those bikes are then heavier so then don't climb as well. The fluuro / tron one is a good all rounder.
There are several bikes and wheel combinations which are lighter and faster if doing a sustained climb.
Very nerdy and there is a website that has tested all this out! https://zwiftinsider.com/fastest-setup-30/

The roads were pretty busy so it was a bit hard to see everyone and know what the time gaps were. I think the winner came from the scratch group, but i was dropped pretty early on so not 100% sure on that.
