robster82 reacted to P McDonald in Vets National
Vets national at Falkirk yesterday kicked off at 10am in rain and 7c temp which was pretty grim. Dried out by the end though. It was 7 laps of a 9 mile circuit with a couple of miles run to finish, there was a short but steep climb each lap. Race was fast and steady with my average for 70 miles being 25mph including A few miles before and after. Break of 4 did a great job but ultimately got caught with about 10 miles to go. There were about 45 left for a bunch sprint with a drag up over the motorway with 1km to go. This was my undoing as body started to malfunction half way up the drag and I just could not get towards the front and finished 32nd in the midst of the large bunch spread across the road. Good to be part of it all, not good to be so far down but c'est la vie. Need to review training I think as struggling in road races this year.

So well done today guys and now we have both Alan and Iain knocking on the door of 3rd cat. Post race thought from me would be Colin has sold himself short as he would not have been in any different position had he completed the first lap. If there is a learning point it is bike maintenance but that is a bit harsh as mechanicals can happen at any random time ( the mechanical was a slipping front mech on the seat tube ). Iain was looking comfortable when I spoke to him just before final lap when I was saying we should take part in chasing down any attacks in the last 5 miles. Must have been a jinx as he punctured within the next minute! Anyway bad luck but all positive as looking strong. Alan's performance speaks for itself and with Alan being Alan he is frustrated it wasn't a higher placing. That day will come on current form. For me I was happy to be able to make a small contribution to the team effort which was more an experience contribution than a physical contribution. I knew with the wind conditions you had to be near front for final roundabout with about 600m to go so I made it my business to bump, barge and hustle me and Alan into the top 10 for the turn. After the roundabout I lasted only a few hundred metres then could not hold the first 10 position. Alan did exactly the right thing and moved past me when the surge came, I've always had him marked as a natural who just knows the right time to make an effort. I only wish I could have led him to the final 200m but c'est la vie you can only do what you can do.

    Bring it on

7th again, becoming a habit. All week legs have bn shredded and not up to it, think I might need a rest, today's race was slower than expected considering the field (thankfully) however more thanks must go to Paul McDonald who on the last lap managed to take me from mid bunch all the way to top 15 for the last turn at the roundabout allowing me to sprint for the finish. as this was a regional A race (stated on website) it was ten points for 7th thus qualifying me for a cat 3 licence 😃 so the race organiser told me, but others were unsure so I'll have to wait for confirmation from bc before I retire lol massive thanks again paul and unlucky to Ian and Colin with mechanicals.

Excellent day on the bike again today with fairly good weather & smashing company!

I counted 10 in the bunch - ROBBIE, Al, Alex, Campbell, Charlie, Darryl, Iain67, Iain G, Des (our guest rider on the day) & myself met & set off from the bridge this morning under decent weather but with a some what breezy headwind on the way out. Des suffered a puncture just before Helensburgh but was quickly fixed, at this point a glad but cursing Greg Balden appeared, apparently he was just a few minutes late in getting to the bridge and found we had gone so gave a purposeful chase, well done, good effort!

Onwards & upwards, all the way round the peninsula following our proposed route. A smashing decent into Coulport was enjoyed by all, a quick blast along the coast road was rewarded with the usual high standard of grub/service at the cafe in Kilcreggan. Watered & fed, we continued onto our final ascent of the day - Glen Fruinn on a sunny day is always a good one!

Campbell, Big Al & myself left the bunch just before the bridge staying this side of the river so making our way to the westend for our SECOND cafe in Siempre :-) More coffee/tea & cakes with a lot of blether finished the day off in fine style :-)

Thanks for everyone today for the wheels & company, I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope everyone did too!

Hopefully more of the same in the coming months.

P.S Apologies if I've missed anyone that was out today!

    Cheers

just back from a week in Majorca and I know there has been some talk from the Leige bunch that consensus was for some sunshine next year. Met a really friendly bike shop owner who would be happy to rent bikes and act as a tour guide. Tony from tramantula bike in Santa Ponsa was good enough to invite me out on his club run and the local knowledge was invaluable. €20 per day for a vitus dark plasma and sure Tony would do us a deal. Santa ponsa close to Palma airport and close to tramantula mountain range, so pretty central.

Just throwing it out there as plenty of goods hotels and flights from glasgow, the scenery is not too bad either

    Guys

After much consultation the consensus is to ride this on Saturday. So, we will meet Simon and Al at the Troutbeck Inn to begin the ride at 8.30. This will mean a 6 o'clock start or thereabouts from up here.

    Should be epic!

If no-one is staying over then how about starting and finishing somewhere in the northern section of the route? (i dont know the area very well so dont know where would be suitable).Overall the same route just a different start / finish and will cut down on the journey time somewhat.

Ok guys. With only 4 wanting to stay over, we should have a chat about what we all want to do. I'll be out tonight so we can have a word then, but my feeling is that if most want to come back up the road, then I'm inclined to do the same. But if we do not intend to stay, then we don't have to do the ride on Saturday. We could go first thing Sunday, and the roads would be quieter.

We could even postpone the whole thing to the following weekend, if that suits more people.

As Darryl said to be decided at a later date and after a few beers but thinking how about a few ideas
Note anybody can post but only if you are serious on going
So how about Majorca with the 312 km as a wee challenge for those who like sight seeing could stay 7 days or less
    Please feel free to post

Just had a bike fitting from a life member of JWCC - Drew Wilson (Visual Bike Fit). It's a mobile service so he comes to your home. Took just over 2.5 hours and bike feels much nicer than previously, though out on the road will let me know the difference for sure. Good one to one, personal service.

Cleat positioning, stem length, height, bar rotation, lever positioning, seat post height and saddle position all changed. Thankfully he didn't suggest stabilisers...

Not sure the rules on contacts etc, so left them off this post, but he was asking after you all.
