Just the 5 out tonight - myself, Alan, Scott, Joseph and new member Rachid. Tough night for their first Thursday night group ride, weather absolutely miserable but they all did well.

Was very rainy and gloomy so made the call to go up and do some laps of the Peesweep circuit instead rather than head to Stewarton and get caught out in the dark. Due to change of route no sprint or KOM sections agreed in advance but as its my rules i can make it up as i go along - Alan was first for the last fast lap so 6 points to him for the win, 4 points for everyone else (apart from me i'll just take the 1 for turning up).

First tour away and absolutely loved it, even the windy wet bits which there were loads of!

Highlights for me were ascending the Bealach na ba, crazy winds though which made it very difficult! 3mph and fighting with everything to make the top, descending the other side was probably the dodgiest thing i've done on a bike, the crazy Irishman with deep sections as well, outrageous!

Day 3 from Ullapool to Tongue in the sun is up there with my all-time best rides, Darryl took us off course on a road heading for the Summer Isles but turning right to Lochinver which was outstanding, single track roads stunning scenery and lots of climbing, would highly recommend.

Lowlight for me was only the A9 but thats the NC500 ticked off so I won't be riding that section again. The weather is what it is and adds to the challenge, and a challenge it was!

Lastly, the banter was top notch as Paul mentioned so cheers to the guys for that and Darryl for the whole idea.

    Hi all,

Despite a few late call offs, 6 of us came out to play on this run - Al, Eric, Ian Ginty, Richard (a rare sighting in a Bunch run as the Nessie Monster  ), Stevie & myself set off from the Bridge with hope of some half decent summer weather!

Pretty event free before the (always nice) cafe stop in Kilcreggan apart from the greyish sky rather than the sun we were half expecting

Then it all kicked off after the stop - first I had a front flat curtesy of dirty rain washed road which my uber supple Italian rubber ain’t designed for, duly fixed & off we went again.

Then disaster struck for Stevie up the Glen Fruinn climb as his brand spanking new super duper Cevelo S3 had a major mechanical which render it a bit of a mess, a quick SOS call back to base had him sorted for a rescue of man & machine. We reluctantly left him to gently walked back down to the main road - poor Stevie (even worst for his wife/partner who had to drive all that way to rescue him  ) we were pretty sure we could have converted it into a single speed & at least had him ride to Helensbrough for the train ………. oh well :-)

So, the 5 of us continued on home via Balloch, where upon Richard & myself stayed on the Northside as the others cross the bridge.
Thankfully everyone got back ok & the sun finally came out when I got home ……. typical!

Thanks to Ian for posting the run & the rest for the wheels today, thoroughly enjoyed it despite the few issues & well done to all the testers on the 25TT on the West ferry, especially Billy for a very good time indeed, chapeau chaps!

I haven’t posted a ride report for a while, the ease of Strava have made me lazy in that respect, anyhow thanks for reading & hope to see youse on the road soon!

    Cheers

    Chung

Everything Darryl said and more, a great trip! Hard, fun days on the bike and well looked after by each other, loads of full belly laughter(mainly at my quick wit & Jokes). Definitely have made some great memories which I'm sure I will remember after some sleep.

Fantastic trip taking in Scotland's finest roads. We had wind, rain, sun and the occasional midge. It was certainly challenging at times but in equal measure an absolute delight. The group survived intact with no incidents - no punctures, no mechanicals, no offs - which is remarkable given how much riding was done, and when compared to the number of delays on an average club run 😂
We spent more time in close proximity to each other than one might spend with your own family. And, we managed not to kill each other, just😀

I'd like to express my thanks to all the guys talking part. Without the resolve, know how, and good humour of the JWCC, this trip would have been much less enjoyable. Day 3 was especially memorable.

Also, I would encourage anyone who couldn't make this to consider doing the NC500, or parts of it, in future.

There are lots of photos floating around and no doubt others will be on here to add their own memories, but for now, thanks again guys.

    Salutations,

My nephew has come down with this cycling bug and is keen to come out for a spin this Sunday.

Is there a main bunch or intermediate ride he could join? He is a fit lad but maybe not "bike fit"

Would the main bunchers be willing to sacrifice their warp factor speed to encourage a young man into the sport or should I take him out myself?

Would the intermediate bunch be prepared to emerge from the shadowy world of secretive meeting points and covert rides under cover of darkness? (a dry ice machine pumping fog like substances to make the ride even more mysterious and ethereal)

Or should I just direct him to the couriers?

Would complete the full JWCC experience if Alan McBride came out to shout at him for not going fast enough too

So, any rides on this weekend that could accomodate him?
