Colin McPhee got a reaction from Ramsay in Road Race May 26
Further frustration for me to add to last weeks crash as a jammed front mech left me in a massive gear at the bottom of the clunch road. All had being going well up to this point and was feeling good going over the first climb in a good position at the top and positioning myself well although a bit too far back at the bottom of the clunch. Then (and I must apologise to Al and anyone else behind me) I could only emit an expletive as front mech jammed and left me with a massive gear to grind and the entire race went past me in a flash. Worked my a**e of to try to get back on and was within touching distance of the back markers but couldn't hook back on. Solo'd on manfully until Billy caught up and we worked for a bit although the big man was clearly suffering with his pre race nutritional stratedgy so eventually went ahead and finished out the race. Great day - thanks for the lift Andy. Still learning from every race and hoping to do well next time out.

Plan B formulated already. Ayrshire Alps that we missed out on earlier in the year due to the mince weather?
80 odd miles with climb after climb after climb.

Rumour has it Ross is trying to out do Tom on the tumble scene. Glad he is ok and when he stops crying he will see the big action man plaster the big bad doctor put on his graze. I suggest the club invest in more stabilisers for your bunch as yous seem to each have a few weeks on them . Look on the bright side the bunch will be more peacefull for a week or two
Hope to see you out soon Ross and try and man up if your making your comeback on a 30 miler run next time
Greig
ps dont over do it with the Mrs wummin seem to know when us real men are at it you can still make a cup of tea

Colin McPhee got a reaction from AllanC in Cadence training
Allan I speak as someone who has recently shed over 10kg since this time last year. First of all don't expect immediate results. Aim for the long term e.g. a year from now so that any weight is lost gradually. In order to do this unfortunately it is far more to do with what you do off the bike as opposed to what you do on it. You need to establish a calorie deficit based on your base metabolic rate (the no of calories you consume without exercise) and then adjust this intake for days you ride the bike e.g. a calorie burn of 800 calories = 800 more calories you can eat. BUT * and here's the important bit. you can't just eat anything to make up the 800 calories. You have to eat according to a balanced diet of slightly more protein (meat eggs chicken turkey fish etc.) and you have to time when you eat carbs to coincide with any activity which you will be doing. As Billy will agree 'racing weight' is a very good book which you can read which goes into this in great detail. Best of luck hope to hear how you get on

Colin McPhee got a reaction from Ramsay in Straiton Struggle
Duly took my place at the start line in the pishing rain with 80 others for this. Spent the first two miles trying to move forward without much success. The race fragmented when two guys went away on the second lap only for one of them to go down on a bend result broken arm. I decided that getting round in one piece was now a priority and didn't take any chances. Joined a chasing group of 5 others who were working well together all be it at a slightly slower pace at times managed to catch up with a few others who had dropped of the first group and felt stronger as the race went on. Didn't warm up properly - not a good idea with some fast cat 4's and a tough headwind in places. Good day ou though and decent loop.

Colin McPhee reacted to DavieB in 10 March Restricted Gear ITT
Right, daft me trying to get some pre event organisation for this. Is the start list in order the following....
1. Grieg
2. Elaine
3. Dave
4. Carol Cowan
5. Stephen M
6. Colin McPhee
7. Iain Couttie
8. Any Gumley
9. Greg Balden
10. Hugh McGrade
11. Phil Malcolm
First rider off at 10:00hrs, then at 2 min intervals? If you intend to ride but are not on the list can you shout up please.
Third time of asking, but here goes nothing.....Will anybody be there to assist me to ensure I don't make a complete mess of this?
Methinks we as a club should get a wee bit better at organising these things ...maybe the club members who regularly ride these should be assigned an event and asked to "run it", with the pre-requisites that TT's have a pre-determined start list and ride times, maybe one for a committee discussion but I don't mind doing my bit.
