Thanks for posting this ride Elaine, it turned out to be a good day out, with teaming with the fast bunch nine of us went over the crow and enjoyed a cafe stop afterwards.  Only one shower in a mainly dry day.
I'm looking forward to more Intermediate rides over the season.

You were not the only ones who went into the wrong service station, me and Duncan wet into one after which he confidently declared we only had 80kms to go and 20k to Moffat after riding hard for 40 odd minutes we still had no sight of signs for Moffat and see just about to turn back when John arrived with old skool technology (a map) and told us we had not even made it to Johnstone bridge yet.
Last 65kms I hated, don't know if this is a function of not having distance or time on my computer as it seemed that no matter how hard I pushed Selkirk would never appear. Physically ok for me but don't know if I want to do it enough to actually get enjoyment out of the challenge. Weather was actually ok and rode in shorts throughout.
You pair deserve a lot of credit for finishing I could not have spent that much time suffering on the bike, I would have chucked I.  and your right if you just look at maintaining  a low average speed it might look physically achievable with little prep neede but there is more to it than that.

Received this email from Mark Beaumont during the week.  I am not planning on doing it this year, but if anyone is keen, let me know and I can send you the link to register.  Not sure when they will be releasing the registration link but expect it will be in the coming days/weeks.

You are receiving this because either you took part in the inaugural ATW1D in 2018 or you expressed interest and were on the long waiting list.  You are now in the leading group for places in the 2019 event, and places are strictly on a first come, first served basis.  So, feel free to sign up and share with friends who you believe have 240 miles in their legs and the ability to raise £1000 for the STV Children’s Appeal!  Last year we raised over £90,000 and this year we are aiming to smash £100,000.

Together, we will ride 18,000 miles in a day - the equivalent of circumnavigating the world!  We’ll follow the stunning coast-to-coast route across Scotland, from an airbase near Campbelltown, through the Loch Lomond National Park to Duthie Park in Aberdeen.

This is not a race – it’s an epic feat of endurance.  Starting around 4am on the West Coast, we will complete 4 x 4 hour cycles with half hour breaks in between.  Along the way you are likely to work your way through 8000kcal and downing around 8 litres of fluid.… in the manner of the Around the World in 80 Days.  The ride will be fully supported.

This glorious ride is in aid of the STV Charity Appeal and we are asking cyclists to fundraise £1000 each.  Places are limited to 80 so if the fundraising tally is as daunting as the mileage, please think twice and leave the space for those who are confident on smashing it!

With the STV cameras rolling, you will not only have the pressure of undertaking Scotland’s toughest endurance cycle but also have your chance for a little bit of fame along the way.

If you are interested, we will be sending out a link to register shortly so keep an eye out for this email coming through.  The registration fee will be £75.

I hope you will consider joining me again, or for the first time, on this great coast-to-coast ride and making a big difference to children across Scotland.
    All the best
    Mark Beaumont

Jeezo that was hard work: haven't been up the transmitter hill since Greg Balden was a boy (2007 Braveheart run, since you asked).
Wasn't meaning to be antisocial missing the cafe stop, just needed to go home for a lie down :-)

Shame, I was looking for you at Bishy. Did you get caught at lh turn onto barnsford Rd? I am guessing that you were absolutely fine in the bunch to end of gtr but a small gap and the tailwind was just too much when the road turned. You are fit and will do fine if you get to head of bunch at the brief pauses at the end of gtr, red smiddy roundabout and bishy lights. I have been caught at all of them with a lack of concentration. If people sprint from the stop and you start at the back they will be gone!

Made it to the end of the Georgetown and lost it! Fastest 3 miles I’ve ever done!  Is that a record for the quickest person to be dropped

Morning all. First of the Women’s rides this Wednesday. Looking for two or three experience bunched riders to talk us through the do’s and donts. Any takers?
Plan is to meet at the club room at 6:45 and was thinking a 10-15 minute brief and walk through. Think of it as a wee short cafe stop on an evening ride! I’ll even make the coffee and bring the biscuits.

    Elaine, yes.
You will get to end of Georgetown no prob. The challenge is getting over Bishy Hill in contact with the bunch. If you are at the front at Bishy lights you should be fine, if you are at the back at the lights and let the leaders open a gap then it can be very hard to get back on. As I have proven many times. If at the front then I usually ride steady up the hill but someone usually decides to spice it up and split the group.

    Hi Elaine,
I think it’s a good idea if we can all (both bunches) start the run together heading in the same directions & by your description, we split around Strathblane area anyway taking in the Crow from different directions.
It would be nice to catch up with the others from other Bunches :-)
Just a suggestion ........ no pressure though!
    Cheers
    Chung
