Poor Charlie, hope he gets well & back to business very soon!

I just called the Royals to see if he's good for visitor but apparently the nurse told me he's going into surgery (5-hours) now & might be ok to see folks later.

I was told to call back later to see if its all good, probably the last thing he wants is to see me after he wakes up :-)

Anyway, I'll keep youse posted if I get anymore updates on visiting schedules.

    Cheers - stay safe & up-right on/off the bike

Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club and Johnstone Jets Youth Cycling are delighted to announce our support for Paisley’s Bid to become UK City of Culture 2021

Our 2016 kit will proudly display the Paisley2021 logo

The Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club has been at the hub of cycling in Renfrewshire since our founding in 1926. The club is celebrating our 90th Anniversary this year with a number of events planned for past, present and new members

The Johnstone Jets, youth section of the Johnstone Wheelers, is one of the largest youth cycle clubs in Scotland and carries British Cycling Go-Ride and Clubmark accreditation. Catering for youngsters between the ages of 5 and 17, the Jets have an active club calendar with coached activities at Linwood every Saturday morning and road-race training on Thursday evenings. The jets also organise a number of youth races throughout the summer

With the club carrying such a positive profile, not only in Renfrewshire but across Scotland and the UK, we see this as an ideal opportunity to reciprocate the support that we have received from the Council and the people of Renfrewshire over the years. Our members represent the club all over the UK at a variety of events and, if we can help get the message out, then we’re proud to do so

Another enjoyable wednesday night of racing. First was a 50 lap points, got 2nd in the first sprint  then a 2nd in one of the other sprints. No idea where i finished overall. Next was a scratch, was feeling alright had an attack that came to nothing then too far back when the sprint started. Last was another scratch, ended up 4th or 5th i think.

Chapeau to Emma, lots of rule 5 points today - taken out in a crash, then runs off the track to get handlebars straightened then back on to finish the race. Didnt get the chance to speak to you before the end so hope everything is OK!

Guys, thanks, all very helpful and positive. The consensus is leaning towards a straight points award, so how does 10, 8 ,7, 6 and 5 sound, with finishing points of 1, 2 and 5 for 7, 10 and 25 miles. All points nullified for not helping.
Open to further suggestions on rewarding PB's.

KennyS reacted to AlanT in Confined event Time Trial League
The club currently runs a number of confined event time trials across the spring and summer months. Some of these are handicapped events, meaning that it's not always the fastest rider that wins the award at the end of the season. Discussion after the Georgetown Cup open event indicated that there was some demand for a structured TT competition within the club. This proposal therefore outlines a Confined TT league that will reward the consistently fastest riders, and, hopefully, increase rider participation in the confined events. It should be noted that the existing awards will be completely unchanged. This will be an addition to what is already there, and in my view, will be experimental to gauge participation levels. There will be no actual physical prize at the end of the season, only the kudos of knowing that you are the most consistently fast male/female rider in Johnstone Wheelers.
    The proposal is this:
The TT league shall consist of
1 restricted gear TT over 10 miles.
3 hilly TT each over 10 miles.
10 Chocolate series, each over 7.2 miles
8 league of 10 (including the Frank Lauder 10) each over 10 miles.
2 25 miles(run as part of the CTT events)
    4 2up TT, each over 7.2 miles.

Points are awarded for the first 5 finishers on the basis of the distance raced, i.e. 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, for a 7.2 mile race, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5 for a 10 and 25, 23, 22, 21, 20 for a 25 mile race. 2 up points are awarded to each rider in the team on the same basis. 1 point is awarded for finishing. 2 points are awarded for timekeeping/holding/marshalling. 5 points are awarded for a PB on the course.
Crucially, points will be deducted for NOT helping, if a rider has taken part in more than 30% of races, based on the number of races undertaken, I.e. If a rider has taken part in 15 races, but has not done the helping out bit, they would lose 15 points when the points are added up at the end of the season.
The league will be open to male and female members, but not Jets(at least, not for this year). Jets will still be able to compete for the current awards.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a proposal for discussion. It is not a 'done deal'. If there is no support for it, it will go away. If there are differing opinions on any aspect of this proposal, post them up. We can have the discussion and then put a proposal forward to the committee.

Your thoughts and responses are welcome.

Happy to announce a new addition to our family, we decided to call him Scott and he weighs in at a healthy 15lbs 7oz. Pictured here with his cute little ultegra outfit that Uncle Shimano sent on his birthday. Also wearing his 25c all condition bootees from cousin Conti. Might need a wee haircut to his stem once his baby curls grow out.

Thanks to everyone for a very entertaining evening indeed, it was good to see folks getting "hands-on" with their bikes!

I too picked up a few tips from others during last nights session :-)

I hope this will at least give people some confidence in working around their bikes, & lets all help to eradicate dodgey mud-guards situation :-)

P.S - Just want to illiterate the importance on fitting a "chain catcher" to your bike frames (as stressed to David & Eric last night) it's a simple/cheap device but essential to prevent the chain jamming between your frame & chainrings ........... ask Paul Leavy :-)

Till the next time then ................

Packing the car at 5.30 am drive 140 miles to race for 60mins never seems like a good idea at 5.30am especially when there is  a Drum Up today and talk of cakes, crepes and hip flasks keeps me company for the 3 hour drive. I arrive just in time to see some Jets racing and catch the start u14/16 race with a 12 year old Ruairi Mullholland racing(brave lad). Martin Mullholland was up next and we caught a few glimpses of him tackling the uphill Sand pit before myself and Davie B went to warm up.

The course was excellent with some tricky of cambers, gravel climbs and lots of mud(not as thick as we like) oh and as mentioned an uphill Sand pit. Davie B got grided but it didn't help him much due to a steep off camber turn after start sprint, a few riders went down but we managed to miss them(not by much) then Into a forest with mud and roots and I make up a few places, it gets tight in the forest(due to trees) and it started to string out.

The guy in front off me was all over the shop, and I tried to pass a few times but he nearly took me out, I should have waited for a straight section but decided to take him wide near the barrier as I had a decent line, but we came shoulder to shoulder, in theory he could have just held his line and we would have both rolled around the corner and he would still have been in front, but for some reason he drove me and "himself" straight through the barrier. I'm not sure if he was defending his position or was just a lunatic. Anyway I called him few names and we went to ride off, he rode off I didnt! chain jammed in frame... can't get it out... seriously 5.30am 140miles 30seconds of racing...

Everyone passing me(even get a few sympathetic looks) some more swear words from me as the very last rider passes, a couple of tugs on chain and no give, all I can think of is Crepes, Sausages and Hip Flasks, should have went to the Drum Up. The last straw, covered in oil and ready to head for pits I gently place my bike on ground and the chain just comes loose. I quickly but it put it back on and start riding.

From here I think I probably rode the best CX race I have ever ridden... 40 mins later I made up almost 40 places, my lungs are bursting but I finished, never did see Davie B again until race was over, well done again!

So another day in Scottish Cyclocross... Hope you enjoyed your Sausages(fecks)

Good night at the track tonight with a point (just the 1) in the first sprint of the points race, and then a surprising 2nd in the scratch. The devil went ok with a combined youths/c group, out with about 10 or 11 riders left.
It's good to pick up a podium finish this early in the season.
