With all of the talk on here I am starting to get thoughts about trying a Single Arran..,I even looked at the ferry timetable. Is there any hope of a cure?

Sorry gents but I wont be able to make this now.
I know its bad form suggesting a run then not trapping for it.
I can only pray you all find it in your hearts to forgive for such a act.
Have a good one regardless of what you all decide to do next sunday.

Not as far as the Cloch anyway.

A total of four in the 0900 bunch. Trackie Mia was onmy looking for a short ride as she has the club session this afternoon, so being gentlemen Tony, Douglas and I decided to cut our 72 miles short and escort her back up to renfrewshire.
The only other wheeler spotted on the road was James Snodgrass, heading out through Grenock as we were coming back. Did you solo all the way round James?

Well, that's was a true Reliability run indeed!
Chris's chain drop on the lower slopes of the Clune, we got it back on only for it to bloody snapped :-/
A 10 speed quick-link is just not ideal for a 9 speed chain indeed (afraid that's all I had) eventually got it on but the wider chain meant every time the link passed the rear Mech jockey wheels, it would slip & jump due to the stiff quick-link.
I was determined that he would not take the train home so decided the best course of action was to cut the ride short & accompany him back to Renfrew via the back roads of Langbank & Bishopton & take it gingerly.

Then I had a bloody a puncture myself

Made my way back to the club room after leaving Chris at Red Smiddy, hope you got home without much bother Chris. I got back just in time to see Martin slam the shutter down, so no soup, scone or cake for me, brilliant!
Still it was a good ride & got home with 95km on my Garmin & not too a filthy hand despite all the mechanical!

I cannae wait for the summer to come soon enough!

P.S Paul, sorry hands were rather full when you called!

stevenk reacted to AlanT in Confined event Time Trial League
The club currently runs a number of confined event time trials across the spring and summer months. Some of these are handicapped events, meaning that it's not always the fastest rider that wins the award at the end of the season. Discussion after the Georgetown Cup open event indicated that there was some demand for a structured TT competition within the club. This proposal therefore outlines a Confined TT league that will reward the consistently fastest riders, and, hopefully, increase rider participation in the confined events. It should be noted that the existing awards will be completely unchanged. This will be an addition to what is already there, and in my view, will be experimental to gauge participation levels. There will be no actual physical prize at the end of the season, only the kudos of knowing that you are the most consistently fast male/female rider in Johnstone Wheelers.
    The proposal is this:
The TT league shall consist of
1 restricted gear TT over 10 miles.
3 hilly TT each over 10 miles.
10 Chocolate series, each over 7.2 miles
8 league of 10 (including the Frank Lauder 10) each over 10 miles.
2 25 miles(run as part of the CTT events)
    4 2up TT, each over 7.2 miles.

Points are awarded for the first 5 finishers on the basis of the distance raced, i.e. 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, for a 7.2 mile race, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5 for a 10 and 25, 23, 22, 21, 20 for a 25 mile race. 2 up points are awarded to each rider in the team on the same basis. 1 point is awarded for finishing. 2 points are awarded for timekeeping/holding/marshalling. 5 points are awarded for a PB on the course.
Crucially, points will be deducted for NOT helping, if a rider has taken part in more than 30% of races, based on the number of races undertaken, I.e. If a rider has taken part in 15 races, but has not done the helping out bit, they would lose 15 points when the points are added up at the end of the season.
The league will be open to male and female members, but not Jets(at least, not for this year). Jets will still be able to compete for the current awards.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a proposal for discussion. It is not a 'done deal'. If there is no support for it, it will go away. If there are differing opinions on any aspect of this proposal, post them up. We can have the discussion and then put a proposal forward to the committee.

Your thoughts and responses are welcome.

Thanks to everyone for a very entertaining evening indeed, it was good to see folks getting "hands-on" with their bikes!

I too picked up a few tips from others during last nights session :-)

I hope this will at least give people some confidence in working around their bikes, & lets all help to eradicate dodgey mud-guards situation :-)

P.S - Just want to illiterate the importance on fitting a "chain catcher" to your bike frames (as stressed to David & Eric last night) it's a simple/cheap device but essential to prevent the chain jamming between your frame & chainrings ........... ask Paul Leavy :-)

Till the next time then ................

    Cheers

Good run chaps thanks for the company. And great to see Pat back out at least 2 decades after the last time we did a Sunday bunch together!
Don't know why you were worried about pace Pat, class lasts forever, you are the Vasil Kiryenka of the JWCC bunch. Identical riding style and strength

And great to see a couple of newer faces aquitting themselves very well, Eric and Stevie, well done chaps.

The club is in rude health with about 25 to 30 riders split over 2 bunches this morning.

Well done to all riders , I was delighted to attend and see so many riders competing. I had my father Murdo MacDonald along who was club race secretary in 70/80s . He couldn't believe the number of Jets competing and the variety of age ranges. Well done to riders and officials a great event showcasing the multi talented riders the club has .
My father was surprised by the gazebo at the start line wishing they had been invented in his day plus iphone stopwatches completely confused him  , I was happy to be  the catcher at the summit for the riders and give them a wee help to get their feet out and recover . An old tradition  which hopefully will be used in future event's as I always appreciated it when I was competing  .
ps the jets were easier to push but as the number grew it was further to push them up the hill each time so I got a good work out LOL
