Roberto reacted to thejanullrichdietplan in Georgetown League
Well done to Richard tonight breaking the Georgetown record for a fixed gear with a 14:56.
That placed him 2nd overall to John A (who broke the record he set last week with a 13:20 - Katie also broke the womens record to with a 15:10!)

Caught! I had hooked up with Tommy Banks and a number of the Ivy's more senior members at Lochwinnoch. Fine blether and a good warm down at the same time.

I had a look at the segment effort comparison last night to see where i went wrong in terms of pacing (the answer is i was too slow at the start, the middle and the end ) but while doing so noticed that the KOM time is the result of the sample rate rather than it being a particularly fast time - for the KOM effort the time was taken 20 metres into the segment and it ends before the actual end too. So in effect 32 seconds will have been a faster attempt than the KOM effort...and to rub salt in Ians wounds, 34 seconds is probably faster too!
Strava....serious business

Group rides don’t and shouldn’t count so those that did it in a group should own up and return their points

This weeks points. Stevie and Paul fighting it out for the win but tied in the end. Unfortunately Alans prediction of 670 watts being enough for me was an underestimate. The horrifying thought is i must be heavier than i look!
Stevie and Paul mcd - 32 seconds - 6 points
Glen and me - 33 seconds - 5 points
Ian A - 34 seconds - 4 points
Marc - 35 seconds - 3 points

Hi Folks,
I am looking to join the club and was wanting to come along on a ride on Sunday to see if I enjoy bunch riding or not. I am on a flatbar bike, so please don't hold that against me, I am a nice person really!!
See you at 9am.

Roberto reacted to XXX in The Cost of Speed
Standard skin suits are the likes of pactimo , velotech basic all at the £100 price mark , more expensive ones use different materials and test them ( allegedly) to make them more aero and then charge more money
top of the range is the enduro black skin suit which costs £400

Roberto reacted to XXX in Law Wheelers/SVTTA 10TT, 1st April, Cambusbarron
Another cold cold TT at least I rode without leg warmers and jacket, but still had gloves and winter base layers. First time on this course fast start and first half ok apart from three roundabouts close together that slow you down on the way back I struggled to keep any speed , don’t know if it was the cold or the road but never felt in top of it finished with a 25 something which is slow but power average was north of 265 which is better. Don’t think I can ride fast at under 10 degrees. Don’t know how the others rode it apart from George who DNS sick
Finished 19th 24:24

Roberto reacted to Gerard Deeley in Chocolate Series 2018 #1, 28th March
Just been out for a tr****ng run along the Georgetown Road and it is much better at Netherfield. You just pick your line without worrying about the road surface. Some idiot has left the headwind switched on though.
Have a good run tomorrow evening.

Roberto reacted to AlanT in Chocolate Series 2018 #1, 28th March
Just driven the road, and all the roadworks are away, leaving behind some beautifullly smooth tarmac. In patches.
We have Ian, Paul and David all volunteering to help out, so some more riders would be good.

Roberto reacted to AlanT in Restricted Gear TT, Sunday 11th March
Once again, it's the start of the Confined Event TT series. This is the first trophy of the season up for grabs to the fastest rider on the day.
2 laps of a hilly route with some challenging turns and a terrific descent. An excellent introduction to time trialling for beginners, as well as a decent warm up for the more experienced.
There will be a short ride down to Castle Semple after the run for tea and scones, those with pointy hats riding at the front
As normal, there will be a £3 entry fee, payable on the day, the proceeds going towards the costs of the awards at the end of the season.
The course:
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/651582320
Please note that the start point has been moved to the duck pond where parking is better and traffic is slower. This should make the start a little safer for everyone.
Meet at the start at 09:45 ready for first rider off at 10:00.
I will drive the route on Friday night to ensure that it is clear of snow and ice.
I do not intend to defend my title on this race as I have not yet fully recovered from fatal manflu, so I will be there to hold or timekeep. 1 more volunteer is required for officiating.
I will post the Risk Assessment on Friday.
I will bring some cable ties.
and finally, it is Mothers Day, so don't forget to take your mum some flowers after the race.

Roberto reacted to chung in Touring Flanders in between riding 2 Classics .....
Hi All,
Just like to say that I am doing a double Classics in the form of Ronde Van Vlaanderen & Paris Roubaix Sportives in March/April 2018.
The Ronde Sportive is on the Saturday 31st March & Paris Roubaix Challenge is Saturday 7th April, the pros race it the day after.
In between doing these 2 events, I will be staying in Flanders & doing some cycle touring around various cities & towns :-) taking in the fabulous culture, scenery etc that it's renown for.
My travelling schedule will be by trains on Thursday 29th March, Glasgow to London then Eurostar to Brussle, Belgium & returning via Lille, France by Eurostar also on Sunday 8th April.
I don’t imagine anyone will be up for the touring part, but it would be great if anyone fancy riding 1 of the events, as having some familiar faces are always welcome on the day. I know Paul Levy & Paul McDonald expressed some interest in Roubaix & as far as I know, Martin Mulholland & his 3 boys will be signing up for the 173km Ronde Sportive also (apparently its the family tradition …… nice one)!
I have ridden these events before & what can I say …….. other than the fact that I love it so much that I have to put myself through it again & again ….
Also, Belgium is a place I said I would go back to visit and what better way to do it on the bike, I have been thinking about this for the pass few years ever since Gavin (Martin M’s pal from East Coast) mentioned it to me. Belgium has a first class cycle route system that run right round & across the country, it sounds like cycling heaven, so it should be fairly easy to navigate around then :-)
Anyway, the following are some links if anyone is interested, I know quite a number of Wheelers have done 1 of or both of events, but for those who haven’t but might interest then:
http://www.sport.be/werideflanders/2018/en/
http://www.parisroubaixchallenge.com/en/
I have never done any bike touring before, but any form of cycle which involve a lot more stopping/eating than riding gets my vote :-) plus the fact that it’s a good excuse to buy more gear …… brilliant!
A couple of dilemma I face already, as I will be touring & riding the events on the same bike, which means I’ll have to compromise on a few things for sure.
It won’t be practical to ride my tubular wheels (they were great for Roubaix’s pave) so instead I’ll ride a set of 32/36 spokes clincher with Vittoria Pave 25mm tyres, but the problem is these tyre seems to have been discontinued so it’s hard to find stock
I will also need to invest in some rear panniers & rack for my bike, I have set my sight on some Arkel Dolphins 32, anyone had experiences on that?
I would appreciate any advise on cycle touring gear & any helpful tips ..... or any ideas at all regarding Flanders (as an area) I would be very grateful!
I am so looking forward to this mini adventure!
That’s all for just now ………. to be continue :-)
Cheers

Roberto reacted to KennyS in Sporting Courses Series 2019
CTT Scotland are proposing to have a Season long Sporting Courses Series for 2019 and are inviting clubs to have their event included in the series. We currently have four events in 2018 that could form a basis of the series ie Carrick CC Hilly TT , The Ballachulish TT , Tour of Loch Ken and the Tour of the Trossachs which gives a spread from April to October. These events will appeal to the "purists" and the "roadies" and will give a season long objective for all. If you would like to have your event included in the series for 2019 please get in touch. Any suggestions on format or overall awards would be welcomed and considered by the committee.
Best regards Bill McMillan Secretary CTT Scotland

Nice run out today with the 0900 bunch, a good pace and no incidents. But a couple of close passes on the road down to Arden ( is it wrong to want a grenade launcher for these idiots?).
